  1. In a pinch? Boil some crap for your stain? If im in a pinch I sure as heck am not about to get some chemical on my kitchen stove, boil it up, let it cool, and add it to a stain container You must be breathing way too many chemicals kevin
  2. As you can tell from his email to Rick, Mr Clark has been a great help to people interested in the stain. He's excited about this industry and his availability to speak to directly to contractors seems to show his company's dedication to customer service. Apparently the term is "gun shy" but i think AC realizes that not everyone is going to jump 100 percent behind the stain until the field tests come through. But they obviously are confident in the product and even sent me more samples to do some additional work with. Ive got a deck slated for July 7th with Armstrong Clark Cedartone and ill be sure to post my thoughts. Id appreciate y'all getting some samples and letting me know how it works out for you. The more perspectives, the better for people to decide
  3. Where have you been all my life? geez great post
  4. I don't want to get to into messing with a special bakers blend or twp. From what I understand TWP 100 will be gone next year when they switch the VOC regulations to California standard. I cant help but imagine Bakers will probably have the same fate. Any idea what percent solvent they have? Also ive had great sucess only offering two woodtux colors so far. I dont want to get too deep into dealing with people who want me to use a certain product simply because it has a color they like. I think with AC I can keep it to two brands and simply tell the customer I have to use AC because the deck is so much older. Also with AC compared to TWP theres no risk of it getting reformulated since they only use 25 percent solvent. This even means you could probably still thin with mineral spirits for fence jobs or a more transparent coverage Ive also recently used woodrich timberoil with a top coat of woodtux. Thats gets your paraffins in the wood with the longevity of woodtux on top to seal it in.
  5. We must be running with the same brain. I love woodtux on newer wood, but with older stuff it seems to take much more product and doesn't finish quite the same. Thats why im thinking AC will work well on the dryer stuff, especially seeing as their colors are similar and the stain still has the curing aspect to it like woodtux
  6. New found joy for what I do every day. IPE IS AWESOME This was a deck/porch combo that was never stained. Wood was 3.5 years old. Back deck had to be accessed from a ladder but was a nice view Heres the before pictures:
  7. It was definitely a super refreshing change of pace from dry old pressure treated Thanks for the compliments guys. Beth, Ill have to take a coke instead ;)
  8. Let me know anything you see that I did wrong so Ill know for the future. Thanks to everyone for the help I got in reading the last 5 years worth of IPE threads on here Job paid in around 3/sq foot, materials included. Took about two hours to clean with the dang ladder access on the back. I wanted it to be perfect so it was about 4 hours to stain. I was waiting for the boards to soak in a bit before wiping and moving to the next section.
  9. WoodTux warm honey gold hand applied and wiped I couldnt find lambswool so I used the china brush. Made sure to get both sides of all the cracks....youll be proud celeste... Took a bucket with water for all the rags What a beautiful wood!
  10. Defurred with the makita and pads I couldnt seem to even out where the doormat was in the front
  11. 6/oz per gallon on the timberbright pro Heres the wet pics
  12. Being cleaned Timber clean pro on the back and front. This deck foamed like a beast I took care of the footprints once I went back over the rail and onto the ladder
  13. Since he just had it done Ill betcha hes not gonna go for the job if it costs him a pretty penny. That deck will awfully fine to him compared to a 10grand restoration cost
  14. You cant do a deck without neutralizing. Especially when stripping. Its essential to balance the caustic nature of harsh cleaners. On regular cleaning, the acid will take care of nail stains, open the wood pores, brighten the color, and make for a much better finish
  15. Yea thats why I liked it. Ive been doing probably 90 percent of my decks in WTW brown sugar and I saw the sample from AC, the cedar looked very similar in tone.
  16. IPE question

Is there a difference in the level of acid that should be used on an ipe deck versus other woods?
  17. Or just never use an ugly solid color on a deck and we can just forget this ridiculous debate Paint is a terrible word
  18. Got ten gallons of the cedar semi trans coming that I'm going to try on a pressure treated deck in early july. Im pretty excited so we'll see how it goes
  19. Deck Stain Advice

Dang you must be using one heck of a nice camera. Those pictures are great. Wanna come photograph my customers? haha
  20. Help with IPE finishing...

    Burlington NC?
  21. Rick what kind of spray bottles do you use? Ive tried all kinds and they always end up cracking or drying out from the stripper. Then the trigger doesn't work anymore. Or the pressure build up in the sun will make the cap crack
  22. I just throw them out. Its only about 10 bucks per job so I dont bother trying to wash them all Heavy Duty Canvas Drop Cloth
  23. Cedar Sided House Job

    wow that came out great!
  24. Bad Stripping Day
