  1. Deck nightmare

What did he say after you stripped off the stain and reapplied the third time? Looks less like a solid but still very opaque. How many call have you made since you finished the final staining? 5 days isn't terribly long. When was the deposit made? Before any work began? If you're going to keep doing decks you need to work on your bid process. Start writing job proposals out with your quote on them. As well, tell the customer up front what you are going to do and what stain you are using. 90% of the time they are fine with what I present (wood tux), and therefore no worries. The other 10 percent we discuss and pick out a color. The stain is specified on the proposal which the customer must sign off on before work begins. As well you may want a separate contract or terms of service that explains things such as not being responsible for crappy foundation, or rotting wood, not responsible for items on deck, prexisting conditions including paint overspray, landscape damage, etc etc, blah blah blah This way your customer signs contract and proposal and gives deposit, which should cover you legally (ive never had a problem so im not sure) But yea in this case, I would wait 2 more days, call again, and if no response start sending a letter Ken: what is registered mail?
  2. Boosting EFC-38 with Bleach?? Good Idea?

Can you mix SH and bleach together? Or just just do seperate washes with them?
  3. It seems like hyroxide will do a better job killing them old than a precarb, so its not only quicker working, but more effective to use a stripper like f-18. Like ken said just dont use it full strength. You could downstream or do like shane and myself and just use a shurflo/delevan/whatever pump. Id probably do 2-4ozs of f-18, wash, brighten, rinse, set nails, stain, make bank **just noticed how weird the flooring is made up. Wonder why they used so many half boards?
  4. WTW tips

Ill be honest, it seems like ACR has just about everything you could ever want, and people have talked about them for almost every product. But for the life of me I cant figure that website out to save my life. It looks like its different again now, (I found a few items), but I feel like Ive never found very many things actually listed on there. Is there a secret to seeing what exactly they sell?
  5. nail setting

check out this thread guys: http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/carpentry/10788-setting-nails.html
  6. Anyone ever wood tux on a fence? Or is their a preferable product for fences? People never want fences done, but I finally got a bid for one tomorrow evening. For those of you who do get fences whats your rate been like lately? 50 cents a square? 3/lin foot? Is that too low? too high?
  7. WTW tips

According to Scotts email from OPW it sounds like you're right Ken.

  11. Nasty behr on rails, some unknown shermin williams on spindles and surface semi stripped by homeowner with residue of another unknown HD80 twice got it all off -- really fuzzed up though...sanding sucked Before: Cleaned: Stained: Before: Cleaned: Stained: Picture sucks from the sun
  12. I fudged it up so the sanding was free--a necessary evil in this case thanks jarrod
  13. How Can THIS Be Good For Business ??

Yep looks like everyone will do their own roofs and you'll be out of business Hope you can get another job
  14. Haha heck of a job Apparently those seats are actually more secure than the platforms that lower down
  15. People seem to be 50/50 on rinsing ox or letting it go. I think readyseal likes a more acidic base you you might be best just spraying it on when the wood is wet and leaving it there
  16. I don't technically sell stain, I just pass the cost to the customer. So if I paid sales tax on it when I bought it, then the the stain cost to the customer includes that.
  17. WTW tips

Yea I went ahead and wiped after applying to be sure I didn't have any shiny spots
  18. Help! SOS!

Amazon.com: Goof Off Graffiti Remover 16 oz. aerosol: Automotive Thats what I use for minor spots on vinyl. Spray it on and wipe with a rag. Use a stiff nylon brush to get spots in the small grooves
  19. What don't you like about the cabots semi? Ive done quite a few with the decking stain for people that like a more opaque look and theyve all come out real well. What type of look are you going for? What type of wood is it?
  20. WTW tips

Finished the job today with the tux. I was nervous about over applying so I actually measured and made sure I used only a gallon for the 200 sq feet. It was def dark at first but I hung around to see if it would lighten up a bit. It did but when I left after parts of the surface had been sitting for a few hours it was dry to the touch but parts were much darker than others Will this continue to even out over time? I was expecting that bright gold look that I saw on everyone elses pics, but It was very dark in spots and lighter in others. My application was very even with the pad and going back over it.
  21. Everything but stain included in the total price. Although lately Ive simply been charging more and including stain in there. Since I no longer buy stain by the gallon Its harder to include a stain fee
  22. Biggest Surface Cleaner

Hey completely off topic but just so you know your website is expired
  23. WTW tips
