  2. Winn Dixie Food Market

I guess they must have scaled back to the Florida area I believe all the NC ones closed too. Most got bought out by Kroger
  3. New Door Hanger Idea.. Good or Bad ?

Depends on your marketing approach. If its about price then your idea might work. However you lose the opportunity to discuss your professionalism, methods and benefits to doing the work in order to make the sale. Keep in mind that unless you are walking around the back of their property (bad idea) you might miss something that could add a lot to your cost
  4. Higher Learning or not?

Working towards undergrad in Business Management along with Business development/entrepreneurship which is a new offering at my school (University North Carolina Wilmington) Cameron School of Business
  5. Who has the coolest avatar?

Yo también advertí las nuevas reglas del foro. Pero a porque necessitamos hablar solomente en ingles? Haha but seriously, are people actually speaking different languages on the forum?
  6. Who has the coolest avatar?

haha never knew what that was before i like it decided to change mine to enzyte bob, the creepy smile serial killer dude
  7. Danebob what school you at? I see you got a 910 number Im over at UNCW. You in that area?
  8. Open the phone book for your area. Bet there is at least 20 power washing companies. People that use yellow pages are typically looking for the lowest price. Thats why you see ads in the yellow pages for 50 dollar house wash and such. Youll get mostly calls from people looking for a price over the phone. Once they get it they go ahead and continue calling the other 20 companies there to find a better price

  11. Contractor Event Nametags

This might seem strange but could you do forum user name on the tags for those who have one? I know I haven't been around nearly long enough to recognize some of the names or companies but username might be familiar
  12. need fencing help

Ok well thats probably a good set up for the fence, especially if its all along the road Good luck
  13. need fencing help

If you get it done in a day, you'll probably be in good shape. But that seems like a lot of fence for one day. Do you have your own water source (tank)? Do you have 400 feet of hose or will you have to move around? If your using spigots, you'll have to move your hookup several times Hows your chem being applied?
  14. need fencing help

Is chem included in that cost? It's hard to estimate since it's only one side and only cleaning and I don't know your market, but maybe you could try like 2.50/foot. Get you a few hundred more bucks 0.36 just doesn't seem right. Where'd you get it from?
  15. need fencing help

Even with materials extra that looks a little low on the price end Thats a dirty fence Is your 4440 number including both sides? How many linear feet is it
  16. Unfortunately, Olympic max is an acrylic latex, which means its not gonna come off easily Even if its peeling pretty well, my guess is you're going to need several applications of a chemical stripper. Check out that site and see what Ken (the owner) can recommend for you. I imagine you could try cabot brand stripper and neutralizer, but your cost will add up real quick with that stuff. You may want to consider getting someone to take a look for you, and maybe give you a quote Whatever you do, don't try and blast it with the pressure washer. Need a good chem to do the work and the pressure washer is just to rinse it off.
  17. What brand of solid stain did you use? Is this pressure treated pine? How comfortable are you working with dangerous chemicals on your deck? Are your spindles being left alone or stripping those also? What look are you trying to obtain for your deck? (ie, dark, light, opaque, transparent, wood grain) Depending on the stain you have currently this website will be your best bet for chemicals State-Of-The-Art Deck Cleaner and Deck Stains The owner there is extremely helpful and if you contact him, he can also tell you whether his product is the best for your application.
  18. What makes a paint like that so much different than a film forming sealer such as the Behr solid "stain" I may be mistaken, but I thought I've read that many of y'all will strip the behr solid with some HD80 and get it all off. Would it not have the same effect on this white paint?
  19. Why do these threads and occasionally others like the show up in my new posts search? It says the last post was made today (Jan 29) at 12:46 pm I go to the thread and there is nothing new? Its happened several times already to me
  20. pinewood derby

Have to be careful with cheese wedge design in some contests. I remember hearing they will do a run forward and backward to make even the playing field.
  21. Jarrod what stripper do you use for quote "cleaning" purposes? Something different than decks that have a sealer already on it? Or just a weaker mix?
  22. Some people do it differently. I base mine on sf just of surface and extra rate for more stairs Other people measure all the wood including floor, rails, steps, etc. So there rate would be a lot lower
  23. Training

I got an email from sunbrite supply in Atlanta GA that is doing some kind of seminar for a new Flood wood product. They might be doing some kind of training session there Let me know if you want me to forward the email to you
  24. Referrals amongst contractors

Not everyone is thrilled by giving out their prices, so percent might not be the best method. If you get to know the guy good, come up with a service that you wont do at all and swap with him even trade. The benefit comes from not having to do the job you don't specialize with. I do only wood restoration so I'd be more than glad to refer some roofs to a guy that does roofs. Seems like most roof people and house washers don't want the hassle of dealing with wood so they send it over to me. On a particularly large job, I'd make it a point to send some money their way, or do a little more up selling for them when you do bids
  25. For those customers who want the surface of their deck to be stained with a natural color but want the railings white, what do you use? Everyone has spindle railings around here and apparently the white railings are pretty popular. Curious whether you would do it with a solid color white stain, which seems like it might not cover entirely well or use some form or primer and paint which seems like it would be at high risk for peeling (esp on PT) if the wood hasn't fully dried out Any ideas?
