Wood Chat tonight 3/19 8PM EST
reed replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Beth, Would it be possible to post chat's and chat time in the morning time rather than in the evening? Thanks, reed -
Two bids out, two to do today and two on the books to start next week. FINALLY, the cabin fever is going away. Reed

Just got off the phone with Mike, my youngest. He has been in IRAQ for a year and just called from Maine. HE'S HOME. I wish to thank everyone who gave words of support not only to me, but OUR Troops in harms way everywhere. One happy father, Reed

Mikes date of seperation from the Army is in June. He has decided to get out and go back to school using the money he saved with the Army for school. He plans to go through the ROTC program at Southern Illinois University and go back in to one of the services as an officer. My oldest still rotates with his airplane and crew over to that area every 3 to 4 months but no way near the danger Mike had in Kirkuk. Reed

I've discolored a few Azalea's with HD80, but didn't kill them. I always tell the homeowner "every effort is made to not harm any vegetation, but some discoloration may occur." Reed

Two tone or NOT two tone....
reed replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I do two toners. Though they require maticulous application the results are tremendous. Do I like doing them, not really. Requires alot of time, but well worth it as far as appearance goes. I do charge an arm and a leg for two tones. I figure my time is not cheap and won't charge cheap to get a job. Most of the two tones are white and natural cedar. I start by applying the white, which is Cuprinol Pastel white, first. The oil based cedar color is applied last due to taping is tough due to painters tape will not stick to oil based sealers/stains. So putting down the white first allows tape to adhere and Cuprinol will wipe clean without removing the white with mineral spirits. Reed -
Wonder if anybody else has heard this ?
reed replied to One Call Power Wash's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Gordon, Are you sure you are in the right business? You should head up a think tank or consultant company. You are a never ending source of GREAT information. Glad you do. Reed -

There has been alot of this mold issue here in the St Louis area. I haven't heard about the possibility of decks being the culprits. Mostly it's businesses that have the mold in duct work and behind walls. I will ask a realtor the next time I can catch one here in the neighborhood. Reed -
4 towns in one county on the free newspaper. Add runs in the home and garden section and runs for 15 weeks. Total bill is about 1250.00 Reed

I was going to say a Casino patron or poker player. Reed

Deck Restoration Estimate (Volume)
reed replied to One Call Power Wash's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
"why not gouge our government?" seriously Rob, this is not the thing to do. Just because others do it doesn't make it right. Gouging our government cost EVERYBODY money down the road. Practice ethical business is what all of us should be doing. Gouging the Government, this kind of stuff is down right bull **** and needs to stop. -
You have my support and if you need help, I will be glad too anyway I can. We still need a board that can be open to Wood Care and also support the other boards that are available such as this one and PWNA. Variety is the SPICE of LIFE. I know others will support your efforts also. Reed
-
Brian, you know the defelting pads have become a mainstay in the deck side of the house. Hope it works out, I thought about the deckguide thing also, just couldn't finance it. Are you going to take over the board also? Would hate to see a DECK board go under, not that this board doesn't support decks, it does and very well mind you, but a board just for "Decks" is needed still. I sure would like to see someone continue the board. Reed

Good job Paul, keep us posted, OK? Reed
-
Just recieved an email from 3M abrasives division and they are currently going to try and see what they can do. Will let all of you know how I progress with this. Need others to persue also! Reed

Fun fun fun Reed
-
Paul, what are some other manufacturers of the pads? What is the material actually made of or what type material is it? Is it steel wool or a microfibered product? Reed
-
I know this may have already been accomplished, but has anyone checked with 3M? The mother company makes so many things, and the defelting pads may be in the automotive division, just like my sandpaper, and not in the paint/wood areas. Reed
-
Ryan, same goes here in Missouri. License to operate a business with of course, fictitous name registration with the state. Reed
-
I would be in the neighborhood of 1200 also. Reed

Don't forget the almighty O rings for all quick connects and such. Reed

This ended better than what happened with my "two tone" pic. Got into a real pi**ing contest, but it finally got removed. All I had wanted was to be asked. Then it got bad. Issue resolved. Glad this one is too. Reed
