  1. Time to get my sales hat on!

I am a conservative as far as politics go, but I have always said we need to take care of ourselves first. Now I agree with going ahead and creaming whoever plotted and supported the terrorist attack. I think anyone in America who ris to cover it up should be tried and hung for treason. I also think that when our men and women go and do a job for us they do so under full knowledge that when they signed up it was going to be almost a gimmie with todays world. We however need to take cae of these people to the full extent of our abilities. We need to stop supporting this crap we do worldwide to try and create good will. What I care about is the wellbeing of our people and our economy and our safety. Now do not get me wrong. If it directly affects us, then do something about it, but do not go over budget to do so to the extent our way of life collapses. I know those Islamic extremist would love to convert us, make us slaves or kill us. Its a known fact that the Christian community and others have known for years. They have to be stopped and punished, but we have to be realistic with not allowing our politicians use our constitution as an engine of oppression. No matter what side of the political isle you sway to there is this wrecklessness.
  2. Time to get my sales hat on!

Yes, I am getting it for the past two years. Sometimes I am lower than the first guy and still get the i am getting more quotes language. I feel like if you are shopping price then do not waste my time. I am not heinz ketchup that you compare grocery store to grocery store. That brand is the same across the board. Painters and PW vary contractor to contractor.
  3. Closing Rate

This is where my problem is: I get 100% from referals. If I can say so without being cocky. I feel I am the best at what I do when it comes to painting. When leads come from other sources I am way low. Below 50%. I am in a dilema of what I m doing wrong besides the obvious "I suck at sales" As I spoke with someone from this board last week. I have a hard time it seems from when I deliver the price to asking for the sale. Someone give me some tips. emember I am moving up North, so price might not be as king as it is here. It seems that it is the only factor here. Jimmy
  4. I have had a few paint jobs for commercial GC's that require a data sheet on every product used. Question: How do you get your home brew a patent, passed by the powers as acceptable and faxed to them in the form of a data sheet when asked? I do not think on the fly would work because some of these people are leed freaks when it comes to the enviroment.
  5. I have used a few in the past and liked Flood the best, but in Florida it does not seem to be on the forefront of everyones mind. People see the gray and fall in love with the ambiance lol. Actually I am making a Northern move and am looking forward to using the new stain Ken Fenner is putting out through his www.restore-a-deck.com company. It seems like a dream to work with and cut down on wait time between cleaning/stripping/brightening/staining same day turn around. I have hooked up with a few deck companies up there, so it may be my new niche. Jimmy
  6. joe walters wants me to pay!!

How would I check ino his services because nit seems like he is in liability insurance?
  7. Looking to Network

When ya'll goto network, what exactly do you say in your sound byte speech? This is different for me because you have to remember that his is like the Berlin wall coming down. Painters usually do not network well, but I am actually looking forward to this new line of service inlow pressure cleaning. Who is Tom from that company you metioned as far as his position and what all should I say to him? Jimmy
  8. I was thinking that if you have to spot sand to do so along the whole board to be more uniform looking when you stain. I mean you know to me it is like interior wood. When a stain package comes in the only choice a HO should make is to go with the clear package as to not have the end result looking like piece together wood work. Since there are paint grade and stain grade interior wood choices. Is there such a choice for exterior wood? I think if you sand each board end to end even though you may get a different looking color of stain atleast it will look more like a different type of wood rather than where you sanded a bunch of bald spots into the wood causing it to not penetrate properly. You maye be able to argue that absorption is not a option, but penetration is. Even cleaning wood with certain types of chemicals will cause different penetration variables.
  9. Looking to Network

Hey ya'll, Jimmy here from Jax, Fl. I am planning a move up North to Reading, PA and would like to find someone to network with. My specialty is anything to do with painting. I am geared to the higher end re-paint/restoration work, but have had a revelation as of he last several months (Yeah it was a slow revelation) to add pressure washing/wood restoration/roof cleaning to my business. I am not going to be like 99% of painters do and rent my HD 5,000psi zero tip cleaner. I also am not going to put together a 50K rig either. Anyone out there care to give some help? I have a couple of guys so far willing to put me in a peer group type of thing, but am looking for more to try and build things up. I already have a game plan for the painting ads to include the l pressure house washing, so hopefully when people see the detail oriented service person I am things will grow quickly. Maybe my hick voice will intrigue a few people :lgmoneyey Jimmy
