  1. When using an acid for neutralizing the best way for it to work correctly is to wait for the top water to drain off the surface of the wood or do it when the wood is damp. This is very important when dealing with Redwood and old WRC. The tannins will bleed back up to the surface if not dealt with correctly.
  2. So am I going through that Mid Life thing ....

I thought I posted here but any who ? I miss my mint white MGB that I used to quote in. Ran out of space 15 years ago and sold it.The guy that bought it came with a Brit auto expert driving a super mint yellow TR4.
  3. This Deck Castle is 12 years old. The floor and hand rail is Cambara, grill cabinet Mahogany, the rest is western red cedar. Pergola's are one year old. This was the third major re-do with 2 floor maintenances in between . With out a doubt and with my extensive knowledge with caring and maintaining hardwoods. Cambara is the the finest of the bunch.
  4. I don't even bother using an acid. Just hit it with a shot of bleach to brighten the wood up after cleaning it up. Neutralizing is over rated. It's good after stripping and for tannins but a good bleach brighting works wonders. BDA all the way!
  5. No, this time the whole thing took 25 to 30 gallons. First application was 12 years ago for which 25 went into the floor. Sprayed lattice, pergola , spindles and did the rest by lambswool /brushes. They park a camper under that deck. Lots of plastic used! 3 10 by 100 rolls.
  6. This was one of the very first hardwoods done with Ready Seal. Lots of experimenting at the time. The oil sank to the bottom of the other side of the Cambara the first time. Man hours-45 to 50 and approx 25 to 30 gallons of oil. First application 25 gallons went into the floor.
  7. I say it's the finest because it can take an oil , be cleaned and look great far better than any other hardwood I care for.
  8. Rick, go to Palm Beach for the Geriatric Time Trail races sponsored by, AARP, Lark and the National Funereal Association. I think they are in March ? Congrats , I'm jealous.......LOL
  9. Who's going NY RT. I'm winning the skid

  11. Still washing a week or more. Lost too much wood work this year due to the weather. Finishing an interior job tomorrow(sun porch). Spring is filled with work I coundn't get to or got rained on . Still getting request for wood work as of yesterday.
  12. Our city has been hit... AGAIN

Just got power back last night, picked up a generator , I have a Jack Russell doggy also, went snow shoeing already, spent another night in a hot tub for a few hours . Snow is not melting on the north side of roofs and I had a bunch to do. Still can't drive Box truck down the street due to the wires hanging.

  17. What is the most effective way to get jobs?

I never really used lawn signs much but with roof cleaning and the difference it makes had a bunch made up. The last two sign placements netted 10 calls!
  18. I don't do much fence but how long should it take to spray a 600 feet long, 6 feet high both sides pine fence ?
  19. Thinned a bunch of product, added a bunch of copper and added a bunch of linseed today.
  20. Most contractor do not like bring up product problems in public. They will quietly switch or not use a problematic product on large projects ( like a house). Very difficult and costly to fix a house. Decks you can talk your way out problems.
  21. Fence

Thanks, Shane gave me a buz.
  22. There is a viscosity issue. Some oils are thicker like the 200 series than Ready Seal. So spirits can reduce the viscosity also letting the wood absorb the oil. Some time the wood cannot suck it up because the oils to thick. With cedar if you thin an oil product the better it comes out. TWP has the best line of products that relates to solid content.
  23. Mineral spirits, moon shine, grappa, grain , tool oil, all good sniffing or sifter goober drunking ?
