What sealer(s) are you using in 2010?
James replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Plan and simple, Ipe is a wood that should not be stained. If a stain last more than a year? Too much was put on and causes other issues. Understanding this wood and how it functions in the weathering process and how much stain doesn't penetrate this wood makes it a never ending maintenance nightmare !! Small decks are not that bad to maintain but large decks are a pain in the arsenal. Understanding how a sealer works on this wood is very important on how you maintain it. The more aggressive a sealer is on trying to make a finish stick and last causes more problems in the future. I can go on and on about this wood because I maintain a lot of it and came up with the Ready Seal method of staining it. I also came up with using the Ready Seal/ Wood Tux combo on it. Which worked great until WT made changes. Wood Tux also came up with a version similar to the combo ? I also have had minor success cutting the solid content of products and adding Boiled linseed . Works better than any other product on the market! I love to hate this WOOD and call it U-PAY !! This wood changes and your opinion will change about caring for it as you age with it !! I have had 10 calls on this wood that are all nightmare strips this year all because of sealer choice and not understanding the wood. It's that simple! And the main reason is getting known as the U-PAY fix-it guru. I hate this wood, just clean it and enjoy the whitish grey color.......................... -

John, almost bought a 2005 Ford Box a month ago 6.0. . Did some searching and talked to a diesel expert. Was told to stay away! Fords built with the 6.0 between 2003 and 2005 have been a nightmare for people and Ford. The was not a "better idea". Very easy to find out on the internet. If you stay ahead on the preventative maintenance issue with that engine you may be ok.

weathered sealer for cedar roof
James replied to Chesapeake's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
You don't want a sealer with linseed on a roof. TWP has a Roof grade sealer that is grey -
ipe deck, pool
James replied to nick_nite's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
There really isn't an issue . I do many cleanings around pools and a upay deck around a pool. The one day that it takes to clean does not cause any issues expect some minor residue. Owners must face reality. Never had an issue. -
Candle WAX- BUG CANDLES
James posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
People I have been doing this for awhile and went to do a 2 year maintenance. There was GOB's of wax all over the deck. Should of been an easy clean and seal. What a nightmare , what a nightmare ! -
Candle WAX- BUG CANDLES
James replied to James's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I know how to get rid of it. The issue is the deck was sealed and the type of maintenance process was compromised. So when there is oil still in the wood from the previous work and it looks like all is gone from the cleaning process, it's not !! You almost have to do a complete strip to do it right and I did not. They paid 2400 the first time for a strip and I was doing a 1200 maint. There were drippings on the rails all over the place and I scraped the stuff off the floor to reduce the thickness . I could put wicks in the globs on the floor and they would work !!! Ha Ha Wonderful people . Head of Pro football for a major network !! They may get it if I stop by during the year and throw a Flag for mis- use of candles . 15% added to next maintenance for each infraction !!! -
How do you clean a blue stone patio?
James replied to LTCCleaning's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Use hot water first if you have it. Blow off most of the chit and then bleach it. Fix what needs to be fixed. -
I remember Pollyanna! They were twins I dated, Polly and Anna. Never a problem scheduling !If one was busy the other was always available .

Armstrong-Clark maintenance
James replied to RPetry's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Went to the House Rick and I did last August (lots of rain) that won the AC contest. They were replacing the trim due to the wrong nails being used and I pre stained the wood. The house looks great !! Customer had to many nice things to say about the team that did the wood and the builder was very impressed. The builder does very very high end work. Mold, mildew is not an issue on the finish!! Some minor areas where sprinklers hit but I knew that was to happen. -
April's been VERY VERY good to me !

James replied to Aqua Pro's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Oxalic is very bad for dogs and cats. They might have licked it up. Cats love the stuff. I always ask if they have pets and don't let them out until deck is dry. -
Make a poultice- Take your strongest oil remover mix it with Talc ( baby powder) . apply, cover with plastic, do it hundred times or turn over blue stone. Leave poultice for 24 hours and repeat. It draws the stain out.

Armstrong-Clark maintenance
James replied to RPetry's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
So now I don't understand your question then ? Maybe your last name should be Gottstahtalk ? LOL......... On a side note , I have had a few people call me about mold problems they have been having. The people are not my customers .They are woodies who live in areas that had severe rain and moisture problems. -

Should pressure washing companies be licensed???
James replied to Henry Bockman's question in Residential Pressure Washing
You can't get a License's for Human Nature or Common Sense. When both are pushed beyond limits, Rules and Regulations are formed .- 163 replies

Should pressure washing companies be licensed???
James replied to Henry Bockman's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Testing , Licensing, Standards, and Regulations all of these evolve out of serious public problems and outcry . Or as an industry becomes larger and grows with innovation the public needs to be protected. Other areas of Licensing and over sight are Aviation and Food distribution and handling, And anything to do with the touching of the human body needs a license . Food handling was a huge problem in the early 1900's ! What about water? Every river in the East was polluted from manufacturing and the land which the manufacturing took place is a Brown field ?- 163 replies
