  1. I've done many decks 4 complete times, I have many on yearly maint. and I have decks done 15 times. All Maint. pricing is based on doing a clean and seal, not stripping. This type of reduced pricing is also based on the type of product used and knowing how to use it. If the product isn't used correctly the first time the maint will be effected. Some decks I take care haven't had the verticals done in 6 years and look awesome , brand new in 2001, complete redo in 2004, and yearly maint of horizontals . Doing this year ! All decks that I maintain look awesome and are in great condition. Cedar ends on looking crappy but the wood is in great condition. I've change how I care for cedar over the years and the colors i use to maintain. The lighter the color and less pigment used on cedar the better it looks over time. Doing maint has a learning curve. Second level decks are another story and those over stone suck. So live and learn! Happy Staining!..........just not your undies !
  2. Has anyone purchased one of these Yellow box trucks from Penske or through a dealer ? Generally they seem to be 4 years old with aprox. 85000 miles on them. 6.0 8cyl GMC engines 14ft box in good condition. Just hate the color
  3. Is there a trick?

Welcome to wood care ! did u do a test spot on the spindles as well as the floor? Verticals do not wear like horizontals and are more difficult to strip.
  4. All rules , regulations, standards, oversight, evolve from people being wronged by business people trying to make a buck. When I first broke into wood care I received some training and a certification from a Sealing company. A fireman from my area was advertising a ridiculous price for restoration and the use of the product !! I got a call from the Sealing company to go look into some customer complaints because the fireman's company was not taking care of the problem. He(the fireman) did however , have his Attorney involved already ? It was a nightmare ! All the decks had finishes that were not stripped off but a penetrating finish was put on anyway ! I left may messages for this guy and solutions to resolve the problems with no return calls. I did find out this was not the first time an Attorney had to get involved with his work. In my 25 years Business I had some issues but I've never had to hire an Attorney and have been able to resolve all my issue's. Two of my biggest problems were on an Attorney's properties. One handles insurance claims against Pressure Cleaners ( very funny stories) and the other I didn't cause the problem but brought the problem to light with a different method of restoration and sealing ( nightmare) ! There is going to be Accidents , Damage and Mistakes, thats what insurance is for. But ,should stupid customers be protected from themselves ? Maybe a home owner should be required to have a license to own a property and the license would require training for property maintenance and hiring contractors ?
  5. Most problems encountered with rain will be from leaving to much oil on the surface. Then the water and oil mix doesn't look that great but is still a pretty easy fix
  6. house in Vermont

What about Dan the Plain Washer ?
  7. Kool deck ????

I take care of a few kool decks around pools. That finish looks similar to a kool deck but there are so many finishes now its hard to tell. As kool decks age they start to loose there color and chalk a bit. Then it cracks and starts to lift off. I use house wash strength mix or a little stronger if its bad . Don't go strong on this stuff ! Clean with warm water 100 to 125, surface cleaner. Rinse with a wand.
  8. Stick with RS on shakes.
  9. Some times jobs like that are difficult. The extractive bleed and tannins have bled out of the wood and have caused a crust on top of the shake. The older the shake is the more difficult it is to remedy. You have to do some test spots.Make sure it's never been sealed ? If that's the case the areas that are the blackest and the brownest will be the most difficult to remove and in some areas can't be removed( to thick and hard). If you try to remove it you will screw up the surrounding wood. Shoot for 90% removal of dead wood. If your sealing you can buff or wire brush off the remaining crust. If the shakes are over 25 years old might be time to replace. I have cleaned 35 year old cedar in very good condition.
  10. If you don't get the sillycone off. The stain won't penetrate and you'll have little bare spots in a few months.
  11. Sillycone problems- I will scrape off and do a little sanding before the cleaning prep. This way you can see if water is still beading in the area to prevent the sealer from going in.
  12. I had a pretty long reply and its not here ? oh well
  13. Why Power Wash?

GREEN, there's no need to keep your house that way after "St Paddies Day" Call after MARCH 17th..........All water is Blessed and topped off with a PINT !!!
  14. Cell phone etiquette with clients

The situation dictates my response. I will tell the person before we start I may have to take an important call . If one of my kids is calling I know it's important because I told them to text me. Other than that it's a non issue . I think I've had more problems with clients taking calls and not being courteous.
  15. I have many large PT jobs with DR ,DB and mixed together . It doesn't look all that dark in 6 months but where it wear's out is more noticeable due to more pigment being used . After a couple of maintenances it gets very dark, then it's time to remove and start over. Dark red and brown look great on spindles for a very long time.
  16. Devistating news....

His sent of humor always put a smile on are face once he got cooking !!
  17. Depends on many factors. Type of wood, how much cupping , nails or screws,. I find it better to use a stripper first then do the mechanical prep. But 12 by 12 is pretty small. Stripper Cream is a good choice for a stripper to remove that stuff.
  18. RS Magnum 500

I don't no ? The site and equipment is new. They did not sell that stuff before. I deal with Pierce and he has never mentioned the stuff.
  19. RS Magnum 500

    That's all new stuff
  20. California has the 8th largest Economy in the World. 50% of it's water comes from out side of the state. Southern Calf which is" Man made" gets it's water from Northern Calf.. Agriculture and farming uses 50% of all the water. Water is Calf. problem and they have been if the forefront of water conservation for a reason they don't got much and it's getting worse.
  21. Why Power Wash?

If people don't have the money they are not going to have some one Power Wash. It's the last thing that needs to be done unless there selling and they might not have the money to get it washed anyway. Gotta find people not affected by the economy. Over the last two years people with money have put maintenance off too ! "Living in a clean house makes you think better" " "A clean house leads to more Romance" A National Power Washing survey of cleaned houses has found peoples *** lives have improved after their house was washed ! They just feel better !!
