The Ravens and the Titan's game was a very Tuff & Brutal Battle ( so many injuries). Thought it to be the most fun to watch. Should be interesting to watch them against AZ ?

Price
James replied to Russell Cissell's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Prices are based on ones own measurements and difficulties. Some of the figures thrown out here are arbitrary numbers. The skill level of the person, confidence, and ability to complete the job should be a factor. -

Funsucker- is a term coined by some of my nieces and nephews for a certain Mother who takes the Fun out of everything. It is now used more often !
-
Before I do any testing now I find out how serious they are and how much Green they have to spend. I've always been a Green thinker as part of my Wood Restoration Philosophy.

That is called a Funsucker!

No matter what your decision is it's an inconvenience an cost you money and more time any which way. In any event staying there and doing it is the easiest way out. It's scheduled.

If you really good at one thing and have a relationship already in place it's easy to add on. It's interesting because when you do Highend your competition will be the Landgroomer( please I no it's a better name). The advantage they have over you is their there every 7 day's and will do anything that is asked!. But they become a Jack of all Trades and Master of None. We have to become Master's and I've done that. I have slowly taken away their jobs based on competence and knowledge. Also seeing inferior work and making recommendations . I have had a few nasty confrontations with Landgroomers but they know why now !

Permachink Lifeline Ultra 2, ReadySeal Advice?
James replied to Dublin's topic in DIY'ers - Ask The Pro's
What does hiring a Pro have to do with the best way to lock out Moisture and the Preservation the wood ? One way is to seal out Moisture is by using many coats of a product that lay on top of the Logs and form a Film along with filling voids with stuff. Another way to keep out Moisture is to Soak the logs with as much oil as it can take . Sending this oil into every nook and cranny to prevent moisture from entering and you still can fill voids. There are Philosophical differences in protecting a log. And I did get the guy from Permachink to agree with me at a seminar on sealing out moisture ! -
I take care of some Ipe that is close to 20 years old , 16 ft length's (1 by 3) and directly on the surface. Most excellent condition and I do not treat it anymore! I take care of a Redwood deck that it 40 years old and has never been treated and in good condition (2 by 8) OLD GROWTH ! For longevity use smaller width boards and have good spacing for air flow and drainage. I also cleaned a deck over 20 years old PT done with 2 by 4's never treated. The 2 inch side is the floor and he sands it ever couple of years. It was nasty between the boards.

Why not be the Ex-Plain Painter or the Pain in the Ox Painter? LOL

If your going to go through all this unnecessary grief for(IPE) buy pre- sealed ! Sealers on the underside attract MOLD.

Permachink Lifeline Ultra 2, ReadySeal Advice?
James replied to Dublin's topic in DIY'ers - Ask The Pro's
If this is your own home I wood go with Ready Seal. The simple issue of maintenance and re-application of product makes RS easier in the long run. It will also lock out moisture and preserve the wood better. -
week in hell
James replied to Chappy's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
You can use a floor buffing machine with 3m black pads. With Ipe the heavier the machine the better. Before you do any thing try and sand those spots and blend the WT. WT is easy to blend. How does WT do in that Climate ? -

James replied to Chappy's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Those do look like " OLD STAIN SPOTS". ! That stuff it brutal to remove and at the same time your pulping the wood. You can not tell if you totally removed a finish like that until you put a finish on. Hence; I will get 90% off or strip and leave it for 6 months to a year. Leaving it will show the remaining finish to be removed in 6 months and there will be a better surface to deal with cleaning and sealing. If you can not do this get a floor machine and make the floor even that way. Did I say I hate IPE! I Hate IPE! Ipe just clean it ! -
