Graffiti on wood
James replied to Mountain View's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Before going the strip route. Try some solvents like Acetone or an Ammonia based products or a light sanding to remove. These are easier to blend and fix than using a Stripper with SHodroxide. You also can try one of those Eraser sponge products. Sometimes the pigment is on the surface only and is easy to remedy. If not strip the whole section and redo. I've had to do a couple of Graffiti's on wood -

Sanding before or after acid?
James replied to plainpainter's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I think the point we are missing here is removing the finish. Sometimes we are doing multi- applications of a strong Alki. Deciding when to stop the alki action is another matter. Has the Finish been removed? Do we need to to do it again? Do we want to stop the action of the Alki? Do we already know we have to sand? Is there allot of organic Stains, Rust stains ect..? Is there a need to Bleach the wood after stripping? Stopping the action of the Stripper and Removing Tannin Stains and Brightening the wood are different actions although many or most times a simple neutralization works after a clean or mild strip of the wood.I do know the less moisture that is in the wood the better the Acid works for removing Tannins and Stains. When using OxAcid a problem happens when it doesn't totally dissolve and it leaves a Salty looking resydue on your woodfriendmembers deck. Or Rod has been on your DEck working out to the Oldy's If I keep on writing do you think I'll give Kev a Headache because I have one ? LOL -

offseason work?
James replied to N.B. DECKS's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Get fat and put on 40 pounds! Sleep most of the day away and watch Soaps and Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!. I bought enough Diet Coke, Mac&cheese, Cream Cheese, and chips with assorted spreads to meet the winter demand. I found a" Couch Potato Urinal "on E-bay a must have ! Some of the decks I take care of are very large so it easier to say square footage. 100k easy but a bad year this year. -
Sanding before or after acid?
James replied to plainpainter's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I think this thread is getting out of context. The only time you will have too do multi- Neutralization and re-cleaning is for difficult jobs that call for it. Which Rod has stated and I haven't even touched upon things I've done. -

Sanding before or after acid?
James replied to plainpainter's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
One issue here is most people Neutralize when the wood is to wet . So your only affecting the surface of the wood. Second issue is Cedar or Redwood are the woods with the most problems concerning Tannins and I've had occasions to have to Neut a couple of times because of tannins. Hardwoods are a pain too concerning finish removal and Blackness that looks like Tannins but it's not. It's a whole other issue ? -

Has anyone had the experience dealing with defective hose? If you have how long did it take to determine it was the HOSE and not all the things that connect to the hose or your machine ect.... ?
-
Jeff, the bad crimp issue was what I thought but it only happened to the 2 sections of hose I was having difficulty with. Others I had crimped were fine. I was HOSED !!

A Warranty for a house is usually for Two years and it's for issues concerning Settling. Splits and cracked walls and major repairs. Problems with a finish and it's appearance must be taken care when the work was done and thats considered touch up work. Not Warranty work! -
