James replied to Celeste's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Celeste, did you try samples of Flood yet. I've done some samples on different hardwoods and cedar. -
Can WoodTux or ATO be applied over Ready Seal
James replied to rabela's topic in DIY'ers - Ask The Pro's
Yes you can switch and go over ready seal. You can use RS as a base coat and use a filmer to seal it in also. -
With cedar do a heavy coat the first time and do a lite coat the next day. This will give the best penitration of product for a homey. If you see a shiney area the next day it wil not enter the wood and must be removed. Ready Seal expert 2037544284 and cedar tech support.

Aussie Oil on Ipe at 1 year
James replied to Celeste's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I'm not a fan of ATO and I don't use it. But i've cleaned many and stripped many. After the second application it last longer and just needs to be cleaned with bleach. The problem with the product seems to be when you get to the multi applications after the third and forth. The build up causes many issues. With the Flood product I also have samples of it to try. But i have the same concerns. Met with the rep last week. -
OIL plus Profits= BUSH. The Middle East is out of control with Israel fighting Hezbollha now.Civil war breaking out in Iraq. Sryria and Iran on the sidelines feeding the frenzy. Alaska pipeline down, and gas prices over $4.00 a gallon ??

James replied to RPetry's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
It's more for kiling germs. Try this? Drink some German Beer then eat some pickeled eggs and any Mexican dish for desert. This will kill any bacteria with in 20 foot radius. But you may be lonely?? -
mineral spirits on asphalt
James replied to clean kentucky's question in Residential Pressure Washing
If that happens make a poultice, Something that will absorb it out like dirt , sand, dry stuff or do the whole drive way in spirits. Do it before they know??? rubbing dirt works pretty good but must be done right away. ben there done that- no compaints thoe -

Deck with Pool
James replied to tropical wave's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Card board and plastic. I have one next week. I shove the cardboard between the pool and deck and this makes a wall. Along with clamps and plastic this prevents residue or keeps it to a min. -
Ipe.. great wood, but....
James replied to PressurePros's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I formed my opinion many years ago concerning hardwoods and how to treat them. I don't have a problem with them and neither to my customers . Because I've been taking care of them for awhile and have a plan. I am alway's tweaking. I get more than a year on some Ipe's. It depends on how its cut and what size width it is. The 6 inch width cups and holds water all the time. The 3 to 4 inch width with a radius edge doesn't hold water and a finsh will last much longer. Its also thicker. One of the nicest Decks I care for is a PT deck that is built with 2 by four's and a radius edge no nails ( side fastners). No cupping, rain water rolls off. Less mildew. So the selection of what to use the design and knowing when to seal all effect the out come. The only thing your doing with Ipe is perventing the wood from greying. Cambara will take more oil than old PT lumber. Once the shinney apperance wears off new wood(new deck) it will suck oil. -
Very nice......

Ipe.. great wood, but....
James replied to PressurePros's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Sounds like an intersesting product. So you can keep on recoating every two years without product build up. Nothing dive's deep into ipe' it can't. -
I 've alway's done stuff and still do before CAA. But what Henry has done is great. The United Way has a day of caring in every area of the US. They need stuff washed before painting or non profits need cleaning. Call your local UW.

Ken try aging the wood at different intervals. Then try your sealers.
