Deck builders
James replied to Crownroyal's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Remember the first finish is most important! Get them to understand that. Most deckbuilders have failed at sealing decks and give it up. Understanding what to do to new wood is very important to it's longevity. So you better have the answers. I have two cedar strip jobs because of people and a builder not understanding cedar. Not understanding what to much sealers means and mill glaze. -
bleach/stain experiment
James replied to JFife's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Age is factor number one with regard to using Bleachology. New deck enough to demildewize and rinse. Old deck enough to remove dead lignin with pressure and rinse. This could be learned in Lab 101 Bleachyastrics. Taught by the " Bleach Boy's" Shane and DJ ( diamond jim) or James. I've had a couple of calls to the Bleach HOT LINE this week> Jolly good mate's. -
I was with a group of 5 guys. Made 75 gallons. My take was 10 gallons. Next year 3 of us 75 galons. It is very good!!! We did lose some to temp. problems.. Next year I will send some to the BLEACH BOYS ................

Deck Cleaning - what products to use?
James replied to Lou Beach's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Lou you gotta do some sampling and research on your own. Some times comming on line for information can get more confusing. ' If you have a result from one experience you will learn from what the experts say. That will lead you into the direction you must go'> Diamond jim fortune cookie's -
This deck is two years old and has been coated twice with Aussy Timber oil. This will be stripped off.

James replied to Lou Beach's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I have decks 10 years old I have never stripped just cleaned with bleach. The mahog I just posted is 6 years old and ready for maint. The Darker the color the more difficult it is. More stuff on the surface. Still its not stripping..... -
It comes down to. The price of doing business has gone up and the competition has driven the price down. I'm doing very well getting jobs but it's way harder. My state CT to expensive to live in. Jobs are leaving every day. THe people who lose their jobs think servicing the rich is the way to go or try. Pricing is a disaster right now and allot of people with 6 figure income's out of work reading the internet. I had some one filming me last year while doing a job. Big ocean front job I posted on the deck guide. Also someone going through all my stuff. The state of doing business is changing big time Here Ct.........
