  1. Stone Restoration

    Lou,do you do marble restoration?
  2. Low ballers making an impact.

My price's have not change for house washing in ten years. Like john Orr said you get faster. But the price and competition have been lowered in my area. Many handyman services do Pressure washing at a cheap hourly rate. 48 to 55 an hour. There is no end insight to people entering this biz for food money.
  3. Has anyone delt with a Management company called Nest out of NJ.
  4. National Management Company

They want many drug stores cleaned. What did you do for them Celeste.
  5. Salesman

Jeff go at a pace you feel comfortable with. There is good stress and bad stress. Growing to fast and being out of control is a rude awakening.
  6. Better yet call me sometime 2037544284. I'll explain the difference.Going to UCONN game tommorow night any other night.
  7. I'll get to this great question. House and 24 are on!!!!!
  8. Has anyone done flood restoration and mud remediation work. The place I rent from had a major flood . A water main broke and flooded the lower level. They hired me to do the work. Not sure of pricing? The garage is about 2000 sqft water went 2 feet high and left 3 inches of mud. I'm figuring a 100 bucks an hour per person . Two of us. I also did allot of demolition work 3 rooms. Harder than pressure cleaning!!.
  9. Flood Restoration and Mud

Thanks Beth and steve. Steve I may give you a call.
  10. For a easy strip 2 bucks is high. However I have gone to jobs where I charge a buck and someone else charges 2? and I'm higher?Go measure! I think the sqft issue is more important. And what sealer to use? get behind one or two and know them. Do much testing in back yard. Know the difference between them. Common sense will take it from there.
  11. If you think your competitor's are charging those prices go ahead? How are you measuring your the sqft? Two bucks a square foot complete I wouldnt get a job and I haven't advertised in three years. I live in CT and very high end. How do you differentiae the products you propose to your future customers ? All of your products are completely different. You have drying oils and nondrying oils what's the difference? Whats better for the wood? Which one wood you reccomend? This is what they will ask.......
  12. Here Is a Very Basic Question:

It depends on how busy you are and who wants it done! If it can lead to other work then I think about it. Last year I recieved a call to bid 3 different condo projects all small in number. Brutal condition and not worth bidding. I explained what they had been doing wrong and to replace all the floors then I'll take care of them. They spray painted all of them? Some like Don said; to dangerous or you can be clueless how to price a job even though you can do it. I had a call to clean the inside of huge barn. It was pretty bad , they were making into a play area for their kids. To many issues to deal so I declined. I had no idea what to charge and told them to try a sand blaster. Water was a big issue here. In these cases I try to come up with an alternative method the customer can use.
  13. wood siding

If the water is hot enough it will loosen the bond. Try it and find out?
  14. In the last two weeks the weather changes and temp. variation's have been huge. Last week in was in the 50's and 4 hours later in the teen's with snow and wind chill's below zero. Today 60 with 3 to 4 inches of rain tonight freezing. Great for woodcare and finishes !!! NOT.
  15. Insurance takes care of the clean up bill. So you have to deal with murder and suicides victims families.
  16. I've talked to a couple of people and have read about it. I think there was a Cleaner Time's article. You have to be prepared for GROSSSSS. Not only blood guts. Allot of animal stuff. Like a lady who had 200 cats in her house. Not all living!!
  17. My Jack Russel looks like she's Tunnelling...
  18. Just came in from snow removal- OVer 16 inchs and still snowing. Roads untouched!!
  19. No such thing as a "free" lunch

The cost is all relative to what type and how big your biz is. Once you get up to a certain figure and the type jobs you bid on estimating changes. The larger you get can you support a paid estimator or salesman? I choose to stay small and service a niche. I have not bid against anyone in a couple of years (woodcare Highend ). The Pressure Treated maket I don't bother with unless I was refered. I rather do 10 2500 sqft decks than go after 50 500 sqft PT decks. Basically when I do a quote I have the job( woodcare). So I'm there to check out the property and to see if I want the work. The process just evolved over time. The first time I do a job they get the SPIT and POLISH treatment. I never feel it's for free or I give away work.If you do a 400 dollar house wash and take an extra hour to do to the walk area's. In three years you gain over an hour on the job plus the neighbors. No estimating!! Every job is an opportunity to perform and to secure other work. This drives down advertising and estimating cost.
  20. Love the Blizzard over a foot now!!!!!!!
  21. No such thing as a "free" lunch

House's quoted over the phone are alway's bigger than what the owner say's. In the last 2 years I've done about 10 decks ( new) not seen. Very large also.
  22. I thought I brought up some valid points that Jon understands. I don't understand the other answer's? Ken I thought the Platinum would be a pruduct like Resdy Seal with Wood Tux over it? I do this now. If you want to be sucsessful with Ready Seal give me a call. I have 10 year's of decks with maint, programs.
  23. Rod , how do you know if the customer skip's a maint. after 3 years the surface has integrity? The dis-advantage with filming products is the build up of layer's so at some point a costly strip job. With non- dring oil's this is never a problem if a customer skip's a maint.. It's just a matter of more product used because it erodes at the suface in.
  24. Russ I have a certification for a product that when there was a customer complaint to the company. I go check it out for them. These were wood restoration pro's who did the job? NOT!! I couldn't believe what was done in some case's. I get calls all the time to solve problems for contractors , builders and home owners and some sealing companies. Most deck sealing companies are slam banger's. In and outer's! I think your leaving your self open to legal issue's by marketing you can extend the product and save money by the dilution method. Just a thought to run by your legal department.
