Estimates - how do you handle them?
James replied to Beth n Rod's question in Residential Pressure Washing
The only thing I thought about charging for is test spots for stripping. Sometime's they take hours. Also wood restoration jobs over 10k seem to take me a long time to quote. -

How do you deal with the sun?
James replied to JEAPAINT's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Ken , I 've been using Ready Seal for over 10 years and not once has anyone tracked in sealer. It"s up to the person appling the oil to tell the customer what to watch out for. It wasn't Ready Seals or the customers fault If you don't understand how to use the product. -

How do you handle touch ups?
James replied to Jarrod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Looks like someone started at the top instead of the bottom and gave up. Plus they were putting to much sealer on and couldn't control it. -
Seems like serious depression.

How NOT to clean a deck
James replied to PressurePros's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I have had trouble posting ? Knowing your options is part of woodcare. I try everything and I know my limits. I was told bleach will cause wood cancer and don't use hot water. Both are Pulp Fiction !!! Know your surfaces and chems and what they can and cannot do or take. -

Ipe deck....considerations
James replied to RyanH's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Ryan, the best tip is do not go more than a 4 inch width with ipe. The 6 inch cup and hold water. The 3 to 4 inch with a big radius let the water run off. This will let a finish last longer and less mildew. -
How NOT to clean a deck
James replied to PressurePros's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
In cold weather say 40 degree's and you use 125 temp water. You will cause some splitting and cracking of the wood. That's 85 degree differents in temp. -

Ipe deck....considerations
James replied to RyanH's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Ryan, after you build the frame with PT. Wash and oil it with something like RS or pre-seal all the wood as your building. It will last a very long time. I did a structure about 8 years ago . The weather does not effect the underside that much. It will get dirty !! -
Anything with tung, linseed or all long oils create a film of some kind. The more porus your wood is the more problems you have in the furure with these type of products. If the wood is new they function better because it can't penitrate . Then you can control the product at the surface.

James replied to Lou Beach's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
There are different grades of cedar and varieties. Same with Mahogany. -
Anytime I stripped a deck with sillycone in it. I let sit for a year after stripping. Although it looked like the finish was gone it still beaded water. !

Websites or Book on wood?
James replied to Lou Beach's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Lou what I did is go to a lumber yard and got samples of every thing a deck could be made of. They have alot of scrap samples after a while you can match them up. -
Best additive or method to prevent window streaking?
James replied to Lou Beach's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Until you get good Lou. Brush around the window and agitate the glass then rinse. If stuff has dried on the glass dip your brush in the cleaning solution and go over what has dried. Rinse!
