  1. Rod can you please clarify your information on bleach being reactivated. This is news to me. I did try to stay out of these bleach issues. As someone who uses both when deemed necessary. On a surface that has a film bleach works better and faster than Oxiclean . Just tell them to rinse twice.
  2. Do your guys hate you?

I can't be I the same job or I'll drive my worker nut's. If I'm not there He does a better job.
  3. Using bleach with penitrating oils Like ready seal has no effect on future usage. I have decks I use bleach every year on . They look Great !!
  4. Rod you have to wet down the deck first when washing a house. This way the bleach will not affect the area as much. By wetting the deck you dilute the house solution and the stuff you get on the deck you rinse off while the house is getting clean.
  5. He put way to much on also---
  6. Redwood does not take much product -Two light coats- the grain is tight and dense- better to work with than cedar- after the first application of redwood only switch to the regular formula- Newer redwood will look light brown, old growth will have reds browns and black hightlights using the same oil. Because Redwood only has a lower solid content ( like TWP 100) it dry's very faster in hot weather. I had a problem tring it on hardwood. It dried to fast and I had dark over lap marks for a while. Blenda took care of it and a second coat.
  7. Just do 3 boards at a time- dont let an area dry then go back over- If its very hot out this stuff dry's fast- Redwood doesn't take much product. You can do the whole deck then do the second coat. It will be dry.
  8. I have had my worst year for weather. Pop up thunder storms have hit my job area's all the time. I have had to deal with dew every morning this year. This usually is not an issue. It's misting now with a chance for thunder storms for the next five day's. I'm re-thinking Wood Care for decks it's not worth the frustration and stress associated with taking chances and not winning.
  9. Weather

I do mostly hard woods the one day stuff doesn't figure in my plan's for cedar or mahog- just venting- leaving for Kent Ct. The Pop up thunder storm capital ! Mahog and cedar today with a view to die for-------------

  12. Alaskan cedar is used for furniture making - It is also very hard- better than port orford to treat- The guy saw it in a book ?
  13. The propose of ipe is low maint. I would let it turn grey and forget about. Wash it when it needs it. Its a waste of energy to maint.. But I do it ! I work with Cambara- Different Mahog's- Ipe- Mahog is very good to take care of over time. Mahog- is being sold under many different names like Ipe.
  14. I have worked on all plus Yellow Alaskan cedar- Port Orford cedar Which could be considered a hard wood and is the most difficult to take care of. Redwood old growth I have two is very easy and beautiful. Cypress and doug fir takes a couple of years to get any penitration of oil. My brolaw lives in Alaska and sent me some PT doug fir. The deck builder looked at him funny when he asked for a sample to send to me for advice on how to treat. Because nobody does treat it.!
  15. Ken how many decks have you done maint. with Aussy with ? The guy you refer to live's in Colo. ( no mildew ). Leting wood age depends what products you use and knowing how they work. TWP is simular to all penitrating oils. The 100 series colors the wood with min solid content. Same as Ready Seal redwood only. I have tried both on Mohog with bad results. You have to do multi coat's because the wood looks like crap if you don't. There are no ill effects by letting Cedar, redwood, Doug fir, ipe , cypress age. I have a redwood thats never been treated since 1960- a doug fir 1968- and some of my best and easest jobs were cedar that sat for a couple of years before treatment. Filming these woods cause more problems than leaving them alone. To me cedar is the biggest pain in the butt.........!
  16. The problem with building up coat 's is water migrate's thru the long oils. Then the mildew is every were. I gotta go
  17. Aussy does the same thing as all the products. I just stripped a aussy that looked like Celest's. You cannot take care of Ipe with those products They don't last. The same thing is going to happen. And the product builds up with muilti applications.

  22. I know bleach doesn't strip- Just clean it- Most of the problem was mildew- A simple cleaning with bleach brings back the color.
