Wood Furring
James replied to Degraffreed's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Practice and understanding the degradation of wood are very important factor's. With experience knowing the age of the wood and inspecting it's visually condition. Will allow you to know what solution to use and how much pressure to apply. Its easier for rookies to learn on old wood. Because the dead wood comes off pretty easy. Wood between 0 and 4 years old is were your knowledge comes in. And with experience becomes easier. Go practace........ -
Wood Furring
James replied to Degraffreed's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
For pre-carbs to work the wood fibers have to be dead - Some times pre-carbs just raise the grain- This happen in the first two years of a PT deck. Basicly there is not enough wood to be oxidized off. -
Look up awninig care. There are solutions out there for these problems. There are color enhancers for fading.

What bleach will do is take the slippery smooth finish off the surface of the glass. Example - before power washing if you scrap paint off the glass ( soap water blade ) it will slide right off. After bleach it will skid and seem like tempered glass or sound like your scratching the glass.

What was your Profession before entering into the P/W Industry?
James replied to newlook's question in The Club House
I was a Quality Control Mgr.- Made parts for Auto, medical, electric and connector fields. I started window cleaning on weekends 17 years ago. Went full time rather quickly. Took second shift jobs for a couple of years until I could take the winter off. I got into pw because pw's and painters were ruining my customers windows . That was about i2 years ago. I started researching the wood market because I had to clean the windows on a huge house. It was covered in CWF. Most of the other houses in the hood had CWF on there sky lights. It cost the deck company a few thousand. My biggest break came when the yellow pages left my ad out of the book. After my nervous break down I developed relationships with deck builders that spring. Because of my Quality back ground and the internet. I was on a window board and I had been having problems with blades I was buying. The distributor told me nobody else was complaning . I had sent samples and I told them what the problem was. They did nothing. So I posted the problem and the letter on the board. Well it was a problem all over the country. I had the president of the blade company call me the next day! That was 10 or 12 years ago.......No matter how small your business is the net can make you seem big!!!! -
Stainless steel quick disconnects?
James replied to seymore's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
What haappens to the brass because its softer. Is when you release the gun and engage the back and forth motion moves the material. This makes it harder to reconnect. I carry a arizona stone or file to shave it down a little to get me out of jam's. -

I do high rep resistance training- this keeps my slender but athletic body in prime PW shape. It also keeps the pretty little house wife's calling...LOL and some men,,,,

The only problem with enclosed trailers is if you run your machine without a vent and exhaust system- I think its called the" over heat and choke system."

There is alot of different grades of SS. It suposed to be immuned to rusting. The hardness of SS depends on the application and end use. The quality I've seen in the deck industry sucks (screws). Made in China and rusting. Also the steel ones with nickle plate are crap and useless. Did anyone get these with your X-jeT ? I was a Qulaity Control Manager for 10 years dealing with metals and plating. Many parts and fittings I've recievced from distributors should be in the scrap pile. I go to the local one and hand select. -
Plan on 10 pairs of jeans a year- sell the bleached ones on ebay kool designs. I like the effect on black jeans the best- Sell the t- shirts to "Deadheads" from a "Bleachead"....

What's the most important feature in a wood sealer?
James replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Mildew or mold has no affect on the wood but it will tell you if you have moisture issue's. Mildew will affect your finish because it's a food source. Anything with oil in it attracts more mildew some more than others. Weather and were we live (climate ) are a concern when choosing a sealer. For Pressure Treated wood penitrating non- drying oils are best. Henry, once you do the first treatment if done correctly. You never have to apply more 60 to 70% of the first application( 3 to 4 years later). Some of these subjects I can comment on indepth. But I can not concentrate or focus. I have had more surgery and more to come before xmas. This has been a nightmare year for me and my family. -

How to get started in the business of window washing
James replied to One Tough Pressure's topic in Window & Gutter Cleaning
Window cleaning takes a lot of pratice- Commercial is much easier than residential. It's the only surface where both side have to be cleaned to do a quality job. -
I didn't have to because I was in the residential window cleaning market. To land my first big condo cleaing project I did. But I made 85 dollars an hour and gained what I needed (experiance). Right from the begining I was the highest priced for decks .
