Nov 23 is my last day of exterior work until march or april..
-
I started my biz 17 years ago (windows) . Its the hardest for a worker to get good at and to make money off of them ( residential). You have to stay in good physical condition to do this work- I offer exterior windows after a house wash and I still do some this time of year when it gets cold. But I'm starting to lean towards gutters for the month of nov and dec.

What do you think about my logo?
James replied to jgautreau's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Thats a good name- the logo is ok- as long as you like it that's what counts- in this biz I don't think a logo is important unless you plan on having a few trucks and many workers. -
Nothing can match the first birth-Have fun--------!

Estimates - how do you handle them?
James replied to Beth n Rod's question in Residential Pressure Washing
This doesn't work all the time. But sometimes after I drink a six pack. It dawns on me I forgot to quote a job. So I grab another sixer and show up not after 12 pm and take a look at the job. Get some rough numbers and tell'em I'll get back to them in a couple. By telling them in a couple it leave's me room to say; a couple of hours, days. weeks ect..... That's if they call back and I know who they our? -

James replied to seymore's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I 've used 60 gallons of bleach since Oct. first on wood. All it takes is talent and some mildew........ Bleach Head... -
Estimates - how do you handle them?
James replied to Beth n Rod's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I'm considering charging for test spots on decks or any wood job. They just take too long sometimes. -
If you like the people you work for and you plan on taking care of them. Don't use it!!! That stuff blows and its hard to get off (strip). I stripped a deck and I couldn't get it off. I let it sit a year and sripped it again. It worked. I hate that stuff.!! Beth- Wood Tux isn't related to Raincoat are they ?

You live in Jersey. You can make a grand a day. Buy one of Every decks Turn key operations. LOL.......

Back in the saddle...
James replied to Littlefield's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Sorry to hear that Rich- Gee I was just getting use to some good verbal battles- I hope things work out- Quality is hard to find you sould bounce back.. -
Putting anything under the sealer won't do anything execpt over kill . Sealing is a good option makes for easy maint. Just make sure its not slippery use an ( impregnator). Thats not a bad word is it ?
-
Heads up on this combination!
James replied to Littlefield's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Rich its got to be the sealer. Unless there was mildew present and it grew thur or you have a bad batch of sealer ' weak mildiside". You can check- If its fairly new spray some bleach on the surface if the mily goes away and the surface looks good it the sealer. If thre is mily still present and it looks like you have to strip it. The mildew was present when sealing and grew thur. I have other comments if you tried these already. -
I don't know that might be a fair price to maint. After the first cleaning there are some spray's to impede " moldy hawn". Bleach for one and there are some copper solutions you can spray on.

Happy birthday Rodney.........

When I see information that is not good iinformation given and is not based on fact. I will say so. And I only stick up for the use of bleach and how to use it. I bought 60 pounds of pre carbs form you this year ? I most likely from what I see on the boards have more experance with hard woods.Think about this Its easier to use bleach on hard woods than pre carbs. I mean way easier and why do you think that may be ? The harder the wood the bleach works less only killing mildew . Pre-carbs have to work harder ozidizing the grey wood that won't come off. Think of me as a watch dog who can debate just about any wood issue, And I have tried just about everything. So when I say Ready Seal is easier on a porch take that as a big tip! I will send you a sample with RS on IPe' from a porch I stripped of Aussy....
-
Beth how can you suggest when you don't Know. I've done both Assuy and RS. RS works better on a Screen porch. What are you trying to do suck the life out of the wood with acetone. When I by a pruduct . I make samples with all the woods I take care of. Wood Tux didn't work for me on IPe"- Mahog. - Port Orford Cedar.
-
I was asked to be a expert witness when or if it goes to court.
-
If its in a screened in porch use Ready seal. Rub it in with Lambs wool. Being in a screened porch it wont weather enough for other products . Wood Tux Is a NO NO. I put some on IPE. It lay's on top..
