I ve done one with ready seal gold . the problem with stains is that it goes in very uneven. There are area's that take more color than others. I think using a clear is better it will enhance the color and provide protection. Do some samples . I ve done a lot of samples and I think clear is the best bet.

Wood Tux sample board
James replied to Firedkm's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
If the wood is cedar and its no more 2 years old. in a shady area throw water on it wait 5 minutes. That is the color the customer wants most of the time. Its also a good way to learn colors and tring to match what you see. Try this at home and blend colors to match it ! -
Wood Tux sample board
James replied to Firedkm's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I ve done 3 ipe so far and 2 comming up. I have one ipe that is all curved corners its pretty cool (done with steam and sanding). I have 4 port orford cedars decks comming( biggest pain in the ass wood out there ). One parqued redwood due( 3 foot framed sq's). Many western red cedar and mahog. A few pt. I see less pt than any thing. I just cleaned a huge composite display. They could not get it cleaned with 6% bleach (must use 12% if its bad ). -

Reed's Monster Deck Care
James replied to reed's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Reed I always get confused on your pricing. Is this a strip job or just a clean an oil. I thought you were like a 1.48 a sqft for stripping or did you go way up on pricing ? And how come your only half done. You should be able to bink that job out in a day if your not stripping ? -

James replied to James's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
When using ready seal on new cedar it can not rain that night !!!!!Even with my let sit for 6 months to a year program. Rain tommorow night, tues, wed and thur. 2 weeks behind on decks with people getting upset because they got screwed last year because of the rain. Must work tommorow... -

Has anyone had this problem before?
James replied to Brad's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I cleaned and stripped a cedar deck 2 years ago that was sealed every other year with cwf and other film formers. The worst deck I every saw for divits and miss used bleach. It is 1200 sq of floor. It creaked and all the nails were loose. 15 gallons of ready Seal it took stop and restore the wood. Im doing a 5 year old cedar deck now one coat of CWF and two Sikkens. It drank Ready seal. I guess my point is using a film forming finish right away does not seal in the natural resins !!! -

If there's no divit marks from pressure. Just clean the weathered wood. If cedar is left to season 4 or 5 years it comes out great with a product like RS. -

Penofin ~vs~ Readyseal 8 month test completed
James replied to mhpoole's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I've talk about this before on other sites maybe this one. These are two differenent type prducts. RS should be compared with Wolman FP , ABR , penitrating sealers that do not form a film. Wood Tux is more in the penofin catigory than RS. I juust stipped penofin off a barn thats going RS. From a guy who buy's more cedar 100's of thousands a year. What I see on the board is people do not understand the function of the type of sealer or the difference between film and penitrating.... -
Flood products
James replied to CLASSICPW's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Always think about the future. That product will have to be stripped in time.
