James replied to CompletelyClean's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Sanding doesn't work because it gums up. Last year I used a Porter Cable paint remover ( tungston carbide) to remove. then went back over (sanding). This was after 16 hours of stripping. My biggest ^&*#@% to date......... -

Powerwashing for houses not recommended
James replied to John T's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I have a company in CT. thats ben doing that for years. They brush everything. If you read it ? It says they brush everything by hand and rinse. One company also uses rotary brushes. Awning equipment can be used with a hose. It can be done just more labor intensive. Large houses and the heat and steaking would be some of the problems. -

I feel your pain. There are a couple of hacks in my area- they charge between 30-50 an hour- I am starting to see alot of these handyman services also offer pressure cleaning 45 an hour. It was easier 4-5 years ago. I just found out two of my biggest competitors went under because of the weather the last 2 years.

To identify. ... Yes I know the difference between a hard and soft woody.

Go to a lumber yard and get scraps of every type of wood. The hardest one's are redwood and doug fir. Because it's not used much east of the Mississippi river. Look under the deck if you can Jeff, that is the type of person you don't want.

I don't give any breaks.. The decks I do seem to be more difficult the larger they get.

Do not let bleach dry on glass !!! Keep it wet and brush it off as your going along then rinse. Cleaning windows is a snap with this process.

No detergent will get it. What that company is doing is scraping it off or rubbing it off.

Composite vs Wood Deck
James replied to shariray's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Ray, in the long run for cities and towns composite decking is a better choice . They won't pay to have wood done correctly so it becomes a problem with maint. . Most of the time they take the quick fix approach. cleaning is very easy bleach and soap . If its bad do it again ?
