  1. What is it?

Yep,it's the same church Celeste. The roof guy is still working away,he rented a small cold water prerssure washer yesterday. They have only about 1/3 of the side I originally posted cleaned. While I was walking around getting pics for the bid on the building I found pieces of broken slate laying around(maybe a dozen). The guy did tell me he needs a bigger lift and that he never knew it would be so much work
  2. I'm a winner!

Lance, If by some chance you could land the job cleaning at the stadium, remember Jacksonville is my hometown.I can always use an excuse to go visit my dad and make some $$$$. Ryan the stadium is about a 40 minute drive(more if traffic is really bad) from Lance. Good Luck Lance.
  3. Carrying fuel in enclosed area

JohnT, Check with the NY state DOT,they can give you the info you need.
  4. Paid with Ding Dongs

Adrian, We give work away on a fairly regular basis. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as you feel it for a worthwhile cause. Also,as I have been told by many here it is good PR for your company, although I have not taken advantage of that angle yet. If I find out an elderly person in our community is in need of cleaning we do what I refer to as a "Drive By Cleaning".We try to sneak them in when the homeowner isn't home, they may be at a Dr. appointment, the senior center or something like that.We get word to them that the job was done at no charge and we hope they enjoy their nice clean home. God blesses us in so many ways, and in return we try to spread that feeling to others.
  5. Agent 86

Don Adams the star of Get Smart died today at the age of 82.I used to love watching that show.
  6. Agent 86

I forgot about that.Old cartoons rock, the new ones are to techno and lack the stupid humor that made the old ones funny.
  7. Pics of the staircase from HELL!

Cindy, While I'm not the foremost authority on wood restoration here(yes I can do it and have done it,but I don't do as much as others)I would say before going any farther with cleaning the staircase, look into gutters for the house. If you don't this will happen again. The constant exposure to the moisture can and eventually will cause the logs to rot. The raised grain on the logs looks as though it will need to be cleaned and defurred before it is resealed.
  8. Need some advice

Daryl, If you lower the tip of the xjet toward the ground while priming it will draw.I use the xjet often to apply chems to roofs (while on the roof) with 50' of hose with no problem,as long as I prime it pointed downward.I have also used the xjet with a 24' extention,as long as it's primed before you raise the wand you can get it to draw. If they are willing to pay for a lift and you feel you can do a better job by using it,then get it.
  9. Need Furniture?

Ray, Long before I got into pressure washing and pre-tire manufacturing I learned to build cabinets, furniture and restore antiques.Your buddy is a true craftsman, lots of old school techniques used in his furniture you just can't find in production pieces. He has a rare talent and I pray that he is able to keep his busines going. I would suggest he market his website to higher end interior designers. They are always looking for quality furnishings to put into their clients homes.A well place ad(if he can afford it) in some of the home magazines like Southern Living and the like could also bring in the quality conscious customers he is looking for.
  10. Need some advice

4000 sq ft was the living space, this house was a monster.I also used the mix to pretreat the concrete before cleaning.
  11. Need some advice

When I used the normal mix of citracleen I wasn't happy with the result(longer dwell times)I bumped it up after talking with Steve. I am trying a soap I bought locally right now,it's actually a car wash soap.It melts the spider webs and other stuff really well and we are only using about 2 cups per 5 gallons. With the cost of shipping now days if we can buy some of our chems locally and they do the job as promised we'll give them a try.
  12. What I learned......

Let's not foget they were also using the debit cards to buy beer and lap dances at strip clubs in Houston. Our tax dollars at work. Locally(about 20 miles from us) we have about 200 evacuees at a christian retreat(used to be a christian college) that graciously opened it's doors and cancelled all of their paying events they had coming up to provide shelter(dorm room type setting) for these people. The evacuees have damaged several buildings and the local police have arrested dozens of women for soliciting prostitution. This is a town is smaller than Mayberry (literally) and has 1 very over worked cop. You can give them all they need and trash will always revert back to trash.
  13. Need some advice

I don't like the way to wax makes the bricks look.Sometimes it will give bricks splotchy look, even when you pre-wet.We pre-wet all brick to keep the amount of chem absorbed into the pores to a minimum.
  14. Need some advice

Michael, I'm talking about mixed housewash.15 gallons will have 7 1/2 gallon of 10.5% and 5 gallons of citrcleen, wet wax, rinse aid and water.I don't add the wet wax or rinse aid for the vinyl/brick combo's. The 2 houses I have done wash in the last 2 day are what I call mold mansions, big houses with lots of thriving green algae and mold.I mix the house wash strong to make sure they are completely clean when I leave.I do usually have a couple gallons left over,if we are also cleaning the concrete I will xjet it there before running the surface cleaner. If not it goes into a drum and gets used on the hnext house if it hasn't gone flat by then.
  15. Need some advice

What is the foot print of these houses? They must be some tall skinny houses. I used 15 gallons of housewash on a 1 story vinyl( 2500 sq ft) yesterday and 30 gallons on a brick/vinyl(4000 sq ft) today. I guess if your mix is getting them clean that is all that counts.

I thought it was a Home Depot product. Maybe you can contact the manufacturer and see if tehy sell it in bulk to contractors.

  18. Delco products

Craig, I believe Mike is referring to the RPC line of chemicals sold by Steve Rowlett. http://www.rowlettpressure.com/cleaners/
  19. Fence Restoration Prices

If you are doing both sides, yes the linear footage would double. It's best to figure both linear and sq ft when doing a fence. To use you example (a)6'x100'x2=1200 sq ft(b)4'x100'x2=800 sq ft.,400 sq ft difference. Linear feet is 200' for both,as you can see both fences aren't created equal in sq ft.
  20. PWNA Members Invited To Bid

I think the PWNA working on things like this is a step in the right direction toward growing it memebership.
  21. Removing glue residue on box truck??

I'm not sure I would spray easy off on all that pretty aluminum. I use rubbing alchol to remove decal residue from cars. With that much area to cover it would take you several hours.
  22. PWNA Members Invited To Bid

This reads like a backhanded text biotch slap.
  23. Wicked Spider!!!

I feel your pain my brother.
  24. PWNA Members Invited To Bid

Maybe they are trying to divide the work so non PWNA companies get a chance to do some also.Could be some buildings are handled by property management companies and they can take bids from whom ever they want. There are 10 stores in Ga. from Macon north.Looks like Cujo and some of the other Ga. guys will be busy.
  25. Who has Worker's Comp?

Jon, We are in the same situation with WC.As owners we aren't required by the state to have it and if we did,it wouldn't cover us anyway. The last quote I got was $1400 for the year. We missed out on a monthly contract with a bank because they demanded WC.I was prepared to get WC until the bank balked at the price increase per location(about $20 per branch) to cover the additional insurance they required. The funny part is they had their carpet cleaning company sub the pressure washing to another company and they don't carry WC.I wonder how they will handle a claim if someone from this company gets hurt on their property? They can plead ignorance but I don't think that will get them far in court. If we had fulltime/parttime employees WC would be in place to protect them. I honestly don't understand the assumption that if you don't have WC your aren't a legit business.I guess I missed the memo that said my liabilty insurance and business license weren't enough.
