Advice on power washing wood home
squirtgun replied to prince083's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I think he did say the siding was painted. As long as the paint is in good condition there is no reason this should be treated any different than a regular housewash.Low pressure and chems(some kind of chlorine/bleach and soap) should do the trick. -

http://www.snowathome.com/ This site give the plans to make your own or you can order one pre-made. The skid unit will do the job but we don't have the hard freeze longer enough to get it on the ground and keep it there.
-
Philip, If you have a hotwater skid (hotwater freezes faster than cold) it will work if the temp drops below about 23 for several hours. We tried this one night this past winter (I warned the neighbors in advance, because of the noise involved). It will make snow but it would take more than a few hours to cover even a small area with enough to play in.We live a few hours south of you so you might be able to get more to accumulate. For a cold water machine you will need the temp drop and a air compressor with a wand to mix the air into the water stream to achieve snow. There is a kit online to accomplish this for a cold water machine but it's pricey.

Henry, Thank you. When things like this happen it makes the petty stuff seem pointless.

Henry, Don Phelps has a nice trailer set up for his xjet and a shurflo. It's a 4 wheel wagone with tank and hose reel.Maybe he will post a pics. It's something I may try when I rearrange our trailer.

As of 10AM this morning none of this is important anymore. There are greater prorities in life that fighting about who is right or wrong about this BS. http://www.thecleanernetwork.com/showthread.php?p=30420#post30420

Philip, Without assisting the flow....50' would be the maximum I would use.We have 3 hoses for our xjet 1-15',1-30' and 1-50'.depending on hopw tight the work area is determines which hose we use.The 50' stays on the cart all the time...the other 2 are kept in the tool box unitl needed. Mathew Johnson uses a shurflo assisted Xjet system(200ft of hose) he purchased from Dale Millere whom is no longer in the business.Matt loves the set up from what he's told me.I think he said he does use more chemicals but not sure how much more. Check out the stick for measuring, http://www.thecleanernetwork.com/showthread.php?t=3179

Henry, We did the hose reel on the cart. It's not worth the trouble to be very honest.Like Lance(CCPC) said it's just as easy to wrap the hose around the cart. Don't forget you'll need a vent hole to keep the Xjet from sucking the sides of your tank in. http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1973&highlight=xjet+cart I also tried the reel mounted over the tank.We just didn't like it...something else in the way when you were done with a job.

I guess the big deal is.....we should all be able to share our opinions or ideas on the industry without it turning into a war of underhanded comments and chest pounding. All of which I may/or/may not have taken part in at one time or another.

John T, Where would liability fall by giving someone a basic idea of what they might need to consider when hiring a company?Assuming there is no PWNA company in their area couldn't you simply say, " We can not recommend a non-member company to you, however,in your search you may want to check for business license, insurance and references." What Scott wants done is wishfull thinking because he is not considering the liability factors. We as the PWNA have to consider the liability factors and any repercussions that involve us. You and Everett have both taken your shots at me and I have done my very best to reply in a professonal manner.I sincerely hope some day we can all see eye to eye on just one topic.
-
Jon, Sorry your thread got hijacked.I'll let Beth & Rod answer for themsleves.I think Ron & Mike H. still support the PWNA in some capacity.
-
Ev, I'm only sharing my viewpoint(you know the ranting of a crazy man) it's not meant to be offensive. You are taking my comments as a dislike/hate for you and other PWNA members and that is just not the case.We don't see eye to eye and the bottom line is that may never happen.I may not be on the same page as you where the PWNA is concerned but I think we are in the same book about where we would like to see this industry headed. You are right we don't know each other and you never know I may just call one day.I hope we can make it to TN for Steve's meeting.I wish you could have made it down here in Feb. P.S Scott, I have heard you long enough. Your comment about convincing me about non-members is ridiculous. You haven't even been in the business long enough to comment about me with that statement. There is no need to be dismissive and degrading toward me.I have never attacked your knowledge or credilbilty in the industry as you more or less did mine with the above comment.I have great respect for a lot of people in the industry no matter if I agree with their opinions or not.
-
Have it your way Henry. I never said I thought the PWNA should promote non-members over members.I said IF there is no PWNA member in an area you wouldn't EDUCATE that person(someone seeking pressure washing) on the best way to find a legit company. "Reality is a scarey place, that is why some people choose to live in the own world.Would you like to visit mine?"

Philip, Give Sun brite supply a call I think they handle chlorine in 15 gallon containers.1-877-578-7759

My point is why would the PWNA give away a member benefit to someone that's not a member? Henry, Do you not undertsand that there is no member benefit being given away by EDUCATING the potential customer? You are only telling them we don't have a member in your area but in your search for a contractor you might want to ask for references, business license and proof of insurance. There is no promotion of non-member companies in that statement. It's a promotion of the industry that we all as legit contractors should be making the general public aware of.I guess next you're going to tell me that the PWNA is only about promoting members and not the industry.
-
Celeste, You know us rednecks aren't smart enough to pick up on Henry's verbal judo.He really doesn't have to be nice.Let him say what he wants no harm,no foul.I can play the game with the dirtiest of them if I have to.
-
Henry, The only one who thinks they have wasted their time on these posts is you.Until now this thread has had a very positive tone.If you don't have time don't reply!!! It's clear your version of customer education doesn't include the fact the PWNA may have to tell a potential customer "we don't have a contractor in your area.So enlight of that fact Mr/Mrs home or business owner you are out of luck, because we refuse to tell you how to seek a skilled contractor in your area. They would have to be a PWNA member for us to do that " You are so brainwashed you have failed to read what I have typed twice and that is "EDUCATE them on the importance of checking license, insurance and references" so that they may seek another contractor on their own.How in the heck is that promoting a non-member company? Oh, wait a minute it's not...it just doesn't fit into what you and others on the BOD have envisioned for the PWNA so it must be wrong. "Being narrow minded is like trying to view the world through the eye of a needle."
-
Why would the PWNA do that? to open itself up to liability for someone that doesn't even want to support the organization? Why wouldn't you EDUCATE them on the importance of checking license, insurance and references? There is no possible way that doing so would be a liability to the PWNA. Comments like that are the very reason why there is an "us against them" feeling within the industry.I also don't remember complaining.I was merely sharing my view point but on some level it must rattle someone or it would not have drawn replies. I also want to reiterate that it's not US the members against THEM the non-members - it's all about US the legal professionals against THEM the lowballing beer money weekend warrior wannabes. Celeste, If you can ever convince Everett,Pete M,Henry and the other BOD members of the above statement the PWNA might truely see greatness. I will say it again "If you are going to be the voice of the industry, you are going to have to respresent all of it(member and non-members alike) in one way or another like it or not. Come on guys stop fearing the darkside. We have milk and cookies, come on over........LOL.
-
I'm not saying the PWNA must promote non-member companies above member companies. If a homeowner/businessowner contacts the PWNA and is seeking a contractor in his/her area and there is no PWNA member within reasonable distance to that potentail customer, wouldn't it then be prudent for the PWNA to recommend to that potential customer a way to find a non-member company that is qualified to handle the job(i.e. insurance,license,etc.). My perception that I see on different BBS post is that when the PWNA references non-insured, unprofessional companies is that all non-member companies think it is directed at them. All to often this has been the case in the past. It's been used as an underhanded way of slapping non-members in the face so to speak.
-
Matt, Honestly at this point I am in a wait and see mode with what the PWNA is working toward.I don't dislike anyone because they are members, although,I may not share their view point on every issue. How to squash the "us against them" attitude?I think the PWNA has to go back to recognizing non-member companies who are legit as just that.Educating the general public about how important a license and insurance are should be first and foremost. The projected image that most(within the industry) preceive is the PWNA refuses to make the public aware that there are contractors outside of the PWNA that are qualified to handle the job.I agee there is a benefit of membership but for the PWNA to say they and their members are the only option consumers have when it comes to pressure washing is insane and untrue. Our company does several charity works per year that were inspired by the CAA campaign.I think it's a positive way to promote the trade and our company and I'm all for teaching potential customer the importance of hiring contractors who are legit. In the past I have said if the PWNA wants to be the voice of the industry they must represent non-members(at some level) and members(yes, there are more benefits with membership) alike. For some BOD members this idea is outrageous but for there to be a positive energy from all in the trade who are legit it's something that will have to happen sooner or later.
-
Mike, The PWNA also fails to see the fact that LEGIT NON MEMBER compaines( with insurance & license) can hurt them as much as they can hurt us.I can not for the life of me understand why some PWNA members(not all) have to act like it's an "US AGIANST THEM" situation. When in actuality it's all of the LEGIT companies against the hacks,PWNA members or not. I have tried to explain this view point on the PWNA site (before non-members were locked out) and other places only to have it fall on deaf ears or narrow minds which ever the case is or was. Also having the highest price doesn't mean you are the best in the game.I have seen plenty of higher priced companies do a fine job of tearing up someones home or business.
