Whitish Haze
squirtgun replied to Degraffreed's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
James, Please share the knowledge of bleach use....I view it as another tool in our arsenal if I can master it's use. -
Who has one? What does it consist of?Will you possibly copy/paste it here for others to use as a model for their own?

My feet are trying to rot off also.I think it's a combination if athletes foot and chem exposure. I have tried rubber boots(how much foot sweat can a pair hold anyway?) and about everything inbetween with no success.I started keeping a pair of flip flops in the truck. When we finish at a job I take off my boots and slip on the flip flops.I leave the boots on the trailer to give them a chance to dry out some and keep 6 pairs of clean socks on hand.

Celeste, Thank you for the response.I can see the use of the term within the PWNA.I could see issues arising between non-member companies and the PWNA if it were being promoted to the general public using that terminology.(i.e. I think it would cause tension if the PWNA was promoting it as the only professional pressure washing companies are PWNA and PWNA state chapter members) Henry, You use to give some of the most honest, informative answers on the PWNA.Now it's appears you have a cookie cutter copy/paste answer. P.S. I'm not a member and I do everything I can to raise the bar in my hometown daily. You still miss the point that just because we all are PWNA members doesn't mean we aren't all working toward the same goal.

Professional State Chapters Is this the terminology the PWNA using to promote the chapters to new members?

We use about 4oz to 6 oz per 5 gallons of mix when we use the RPC foamer. If you order from Steve he will give you the suggested ratio. We have been using the same gallon for a year.
-
We have never used D-limeolene we used homebrews before we found RPC chems. You will not be disappointed with the way citracleen works(it contains sodium metasilicate). When we come aross gutters we do them in a seperate step. We use purple power(butyl) for gutters but Steve Rowlett sells a butyl base called gutter shock that works great.
-
Steve, 1 to 1 1/2 gallons of citracleen. We have tried the weaker mixes but find that it doesn't work as well for us.I adjust the mix depending on the mold/mildew growth on a house but this is usually our starting mix.
-
Using pressure only actually can take longer because every inch of the house has to be washed up close and personal.Customers who don't want chems used think they are saving the environment. They fail to realize that by the time you have diluted and rinsed numerous times the chems have very little effect on the landscape around the house. Also, the earth bio-remediates whatever does get to the soil and help purify it further. Don't let customers tell you how to clean.Educate them on your process and explain why the chems are important(reduced pressure on their siding, window, etc.) That should be enough to justify the price to the homeowner.

2-5 gallon buckets of housewash(2 gallons 12% chlorine,1 1/2 gallon citracleen,4 oz foamer the remainder water in each bucket) xjetted with no proportioner. On a vinyl house I would also add 4 oz of wet wax. On a house with light mildew/mold we might have a couple of gallons left over.

Check out the results of this Ebay auction.Read everything and click on the pic links.I'm still amazed someone wanted to pay so much for something like this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5566217149#ebayphotohosting

I really don't see the need for an air gap but if you really think you'll have the need to pull from a hydrant why not plumb the tank both ways. The air gap fill is only a few pieces of PVC that will not be used most of the time, however,if you need it you have it.The air gap fill method is most commonly used by extermintors(because of pre mixing chemicals in the tank, not a common practice in PWing) this way they don't pull the premixed chems back in the feed line.Air gap will not work with a float valve by plumbing both ways you cover all the bases.

Tim, Some surface cleaner come with a gun attached and require a 3/8" fitting. My guess is Alan has 1/4" plug on his surface cleaner that allows him to use the gun the way he does. Our guns are set up the same way Alan's are and we still use a ball valve. It's a personal preference thing.I don't mind the few extra ounces.

Mike, We did get some bad weather but, we didn't get the brunt of the storms. The major part of the damage was southwest of us.200 homes either damaged or destroyed completely and 1 death. The NBC & Fox weather teams here do an awesome job during a storm to get the word out to the authorities so they can get people moved to shelter. They may get the regular forecast wrong any other day but when there is severe weather they are on top of their game and it saves lives. We are expecting some more severe weather Sunday morning. They predict these storms to follow the same paths as Tuesdays storms.

Need to get me some hot box

Started a new company 6 months ago now I have some ?s for the real professionals!
squirtgun replied to Crownroyal's topic in Business Topics & Tips
Dan, The sq ft prices you are quoting for decks is as everyone else has said are "LOW". The average is between $.75 and $2.00 sq ft.The $.75-$.1.00 being for a basic wash only.$1.01 to $2.00 is for a complete restoration(strip,brighten/neutralize and stain)(I think the average is around $1.45) and some companies get more depending on which stains they use.As stated above geographic location will help determine where in the price range you will need to be. You housewash pricing seems fair for a simple 1 story house. The roof cleaning prics seem to be inline with what I know some other charge to do them. -
Automatic water shut off: needed
squirtgun replied to RyanH's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Ryan, Are you going to use the 20 gallon tank with the Hudson float valve?I thik you will need something a little larger at least a 35 if not a 55.I know Don uses a smaller float tank for his skid maybe he can recommend a tank size. -
While most companies specializing in pressure washing are using a cold water & low pressure units. We use large high pressure & hot water units to throughly scrub and sanitize your property. The use of Hot water coupled with Extreme high pressure ensures that your property is going to look its best for as long as possible The site loks great. It's eye catching but not to over powering. I have some suggestions about the above paragraph. 1.Don't mention the other company or their equipment. The spotlight should be on what your company has and uses. You don't want it to appear you are slamming the competition. 2.The use of '" large high pressure" & " extreme high pressure" I feel will scare people away. Most people equate those phrases with"damage" and often time rightly so.

Dropping the Dime on your Competition.

It was clearly explained that certain governmental agencies have asked for help in monitoring illegal discharges. Another words the local & federal government or whatever agency is saying we are under staffed and under financed to do the job they are paid to.We all know that if reclaim is being enforced in your area the guys that aren't doing it will be caught soon enough. Do what is right for your company and offer advise to those whom it is apparent don't know what is right. If they refuse your advice or choose to continue on their chosen path so be it.In time they will get caught and pay the fines that will put them out of business. -
We have washed houses in upper 20 degree temps where 2-5 minutes was perfect.I imagine this spring and into the summer we will need to cut that dwell time way down because of the heat.Start on the short side of dwell (30 seconds) and increase if needed. Tony, Your theory on water hardness does have some merit. Our housewash mix is stronger with citracleen (RPC226) than it is when we use (RPC270) All purpose cleaner.
-
We use the PP on the gutters dry(I think dry or prewet work equally well). We use PP straight and rinse after about a 2-5 minute dwell time(depending on how dirty the gutter are).If you don't rinse quickly it can and will remove paint from gutters or it will dry and you will need to rescrub. We use about a 4 cups in a 5 gallon bucket and use a brush and extention pole.

Dropping the Dime on your Competition.
squirtgun replied to Degraffreed's question in The Club House
Was this a cleaning contractor at a meeting recently held in ATL? I would prefer to mention to the competition that what he is doing is not in compliance with the CWA and offer some suggestion on how he could keep the water onsite(which is legal in most places). Reporting people could get more than your bottom line hurt if the competition were to find out who turned them in a took food out of their kids mouth. Scare tactics aren't the way to promote unity in this industry. It's a shame that others feel they must stoop to being snitches to increase their annual income. It's an even greater evil that these methods are being promoted the way they are and by whom they are. -
Places off-limits while carrying Date updated: Tuesday, December 28, 2004 Georgia Code 16-11-127 A person is guilty of a misdemeanor when he carries To or while at a public gathering any explosive compound, firearm, or knife designed for the purpose of offense and defense.
