fishing for hotwater recomendations
squirtgun replied to CCPC's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Lance, We are partial to our Largo machine.I agree with Alan get the 120v burner we have had ZERO trouble out of ours. You can order the machine to suit your needs(bigger pump or what ever you want).Their website is down so you can't look at what they offer right now,but if you follow the link you can get their 800#.I'm sure they would be happy to send you any info you would need. http://www.mobileclean.com/ -
Softball or playing with the kids.I shot my bow a fair amount until the string and harness broke this year.

We have sleet this morning in Soiuthwest Ga.It's rare to see any frozen water this time of year.In the past sleet or snow usually doesn't hit until mid Jan.

Henry, Are you using ceramic pads?If not switch over on the next change, also,if you buy life time warranty pads. The cost up front is higher but after changing a couple times they will pay for themselves. -
Pumps, which do you use most?

I stand corrected.I was thinking about NiCad batteries.I have been sniffing to much chlorine lately. -

Tony, Charging the battery with your trucks electrical system is a great idea.I have seen it dione in the past. However,if you don't allow the battery to discharge almost complete and continuosly peak the charge you will make your run times shorter and shorter.Battery cells build up a memory after repeated peak charges,so a battery that you would normally run all week can turn into a battery you can use for 1 day or less. -
It's not the use of Thompsons alone that make you a redneck. You officially joined the club when you used it to waterproof your boots.
-
Andy, I do believe you might be a redneck................lol.I have used thompsons to water proof and old canvas tent before.

Protecting Things From Overspray
squirtgun replied to bfenne's question in Residential Pressure Washing
You'll find that when the weather is hot covering plants will cause them to die faster than if you pre-wet and rinse when you complete the job. However,I would advise everyone to cover up palms, then do not handle chlorine well in any artio.(They will brown almost instantly.) Pre-wetting works on most surfaces as a good preventative measure to dilute any chemicals that drift where they aren't wanted. Masking for deck staining would entail taping plastic to siding, covering shrubs etc.(do not leave plants covered any longer than required) -
As Ryan stated Purple Power will do the trick on gutters and aluminum. The butyl breaks the electrostatic bond the dirt makes with the metal.I get a 5 gallon bucket for a little over $15 from advanced auto parts. You can also use the PP for a light degreaser.
-
Mike, I would use a jig saw .Make an outline of the drop in on the bottom of the gutter and cut using a blade for metal.
-
Mike, This is something that might interest you. It's actually a water softner but it will help reduce spots. http://www.topoftheline.com/spotfree5000.html

"How can I be sure you won't damage anything?" ......You can be it's just a gamble you'll have to take. "I think $50 is fair for a housewash." ......You are only willing to pay $50 to help maintain the largest investment you have made in your life? "The guy that did it last time only charged $75."...............Why didn't you call him back?Oh yeah because he's not in business anymore. "Pressure washing doesn't look that hard, all you do is spray water."...........Don't forget dealing with customers, doing bids, mixing chemicals, pulling hoses, machine maint.,ordering supplies etc.Yep,it's real easy work want to help us out for a day? I love what I do.If it weren't for these type customers I wouldnt have anyone to laugh at......lol.

Ryan, I always call it Chriskwanhanzikamas.I agree step up and send the cards that say Merry Christmas if that is the holiday you celebrate. Our society is sooooo PC over every little thing. We send cards to everyone that has done business with us over the year. This year we will be adding 2- 10% off coupons for the homeowner and a friend or neighbor. We send cards to our commercial accounts but do not offer them a discount. We have been tossing around the idea of sending a fruit basket for the office staff to share.

Mike, A 1.8 gpm at 60 psi will be more than enough if you can swing the extra cost get the 3 gpm and later on buy a 1.8 gpm as a back up.You'll need to start the pump before you get on the roof and allow it time to prime. Then once you are on the roof bleed the air in the line. Remember you will need someone on the ground wetting plants or you will have to prewet and rinse well when you are done.My wife and I work together so she is the ground crew(the ground person works harder than the chemc applier)but it can be done by one person. You can buy a $5 fire nozzle at Walmart and rinse with a garden hose from the ground on 1 story houses.I have taken the garden hose up on the roof and rinsed from the peak(It's still not as heavy as a pressure hose).

DUH - I bet none of the guys that clean 30 roofs a month with a shurflo set up never thought about using downstreamers.I'm sure they would rather pull a heavy pressure hose up on a ladder to the roof edge, rather than a clear braided line that weighs a whole lot less.I bet they would rather spend the extra money for fuel running their machine versus using a battery. I hope they don't feel to stupid for making the job as simple and effective as possible.I know I certainly am feeling foolish for doing roof the way we have.
-
The Xjet won't draw the proper ratio through that much line.I suppose downstreaming would work, but I prefer not to run chems through my hoses. The downside to the Xjet is your are applying water continually and it further dilutes your chlorine mix. The shurflo set up mentioned above is the simplest I have seen and least expensive way to get a roof clean.I'm not trying to revolutionize the roof cleaning industry, this method works for a lot of guys I know so that is why I recommend it.It has worked for us in a modified form. This isn't a hard process and if anyone needs further info talk with Oneness or BigPete, they both use this set up and they do more roofs in a month than most do in a year.
-
Mike, 16 gallons will not be big enough, nor the hose long enough and the wand will not allow for the coverage you will be looking for to do a timely job. This is IMO the basics for a shurflo roof cleaning set up.200ft-3/8" braided line.shurflo pump 1.8-3.0 gpm which ever you prefer they both will do the job.30-35 gallon drum or tank a Phelps wand(do a search for this item)and a deep cycle battery.Mount the tank or drum on your trailer along with the shurflo and battery.200 ft of hose should reach most roof.Mix you chlorine in your drum or tank at the strength you desire. I am rebuilding our set up so I have no pics right now of how this all should look, but I promise it is very simple.

Joe, It will get you started, you can buy a 5gpm pump ready to install for a few hundred $$$ and have what you want. Also keep in mind the location of the unit.If this is the one you are interested in ,see if you can get a BBS member that lives near the area of the unit to check it out for you.By looking at the pics it appears that everything is pretty much new and it would be a great deal.
-
Joe, Approx. weight is 1860 pounds for a full 225 gallon tank. The machine is nice but a little on the low side for GPM.
-
Ryan, Any 30 weight NON detergent motor oil will work in your pump.If you aren't comfortable with that you can get pump oil through a PWing suppier.

We offered $100 washes to a mobile home community where did a freebie for an older lady who was having health problems. All of the homes were close together and we could have worked on 2 at the same time and not one single home owner wanted theirs cleaned. These aren't the type homes Ryan described above, these all have well kept yards with the exception of the mulitple layer of green funk and mold. Some people don't care no matter how good of a deal they could get.I know we have also encountered the same type issues in subdivisions of $200k and up house. It's a matter of personal pride, you either have it or you don't.

Thanks ya'll. I had a great day the wife took me to lunch.
