  1. Estimates - how do you handle them?

We have talked about a price increase of a few percent to help offset the extra cost.We also charge mileage for jobs that are farther than we usually travel.Over 60 miles and the customer is made aware that there is an extra charge for travel. I know some will say that rising gas prices are just part of business, but as the cost of being in business increases so should your pricing to some extent.
  2. best ideas for rigs

Desi, An S10 is kinda small for towing a trailer rig w/water.I know,I know you won't haul it with water, but I promise you will before it's all said and done.Yes an S10 will pull it but the big question is will it stop it????
  3. What do you think of this Rig deal on Ebay?

Lou, The 2nd unit was made local to me.I know the company has not built a set up like that in several years.I have seen several like it,most are sitting collecting rust. Not to mention it has a blown coil and they are not cheap. The company has changed ownership a number of times in the last 5 yrs and they are not noted for great customer service. There is a new unit like #1 listed on ebay for $12000.00.
  4. Hot water washer

12v systems run on a battery only to start the machine and run the burner.110v use a generator to run the burner adn a battery for starting the machine.I think I have it right and have put it in the simple terms.I'm kinda slow so simple works for me....LOL.
  5. What do you think of this Rig deal on Ebay?

Lou, We built our rig with all new equipment for very little more than what they want for these.I agree they look very used. We have a Largo skid 3500psi/5.5gpm and paid less than $4k for the machine delivered,by the time I got the trailer, tank, hose reels, surface cleaner and other odds and ends,we still had only $7k in the entire set up.BUilding it yourself isn't for everyone.Largo sells a complete rig for around $8500. www.mobileclean.com ,I think the site is being reconstructed but you can get the phone number there and have them send you a catalog.
  6. This blew me away...

Beth, This is the kind of testimonial every company hopes to get. By offering your time and advice at no charge you have made a lasting impression with Mr.Warner and from the comments he made above, this is definitely a BIG plus mark for the pressure washing and deck restoration industry.
  7. Quad for snow removal?

Jeff, You do know us southern guys call them fourwheelers. You darn Jersey guys and your fancy talk...........LOL. I think the pro would be getting into tight places and easy mobility. The con, have you ever rode a fourwheeler in 30 degree weather? It's darn cold and after 30 minutes to an hour you will be ready to stop. Then again living in NJ you should be used to cold weather and it may not bother you.As loading and unloading from a trailer or truck could be tricky in cold slippery weather.
  8. This is a pic of the stage area at a local park. This is the same park we did our community project(our services and chemicals were donated to the city) in back in May.We cleaned the concrete area in front of the stage all of the concrete picnic tables and several small gazeboes. I asked the city manager to give us a chance to bid restoring the wood when they were ready. We noticed this week the city had hired a painting contractor and they have painted it all with a solid redwood color, even the concrete.
  9. For the fun of it...

  10. What a mess.......

This is the gable end of an apartment building we bid a while back. The owner said he would pay his handy man to clean the builds.I wonder if he thinks his $7hr guy did a good job now.
  11. What a mess.......

Yes it's vinyl and it has oxidation.I noted the problem on the bid we submitted to the owner. His theory was if he pays a pro it's less money in his pocket,so he'll pay someone with no training to do it and live with what ever results they give him. I bid this complex around $2500(10- 2 story and 6- 1 story buildings) all with the brick/vinyl(various colors) and the owner acted like I was trying to rob him. All of the vinyl was covered with black mold and algae,so even the squiggles are a small improvement. They didn't bother cleaning any of the brick. They are still covered in mold and I'm fairly sure they won't want to pay a pro to tackle that job.If they decide to I have a bid waiting,it should make the guy pass out.........lol.God I love the PITA factor.
  12. What a mess.......

Tony, The saddest part is this is one of the 1 story building in the complex. We would have cleaned that end with the xjet & low pressure nozzle on a 6 foot lance. They didn't have to pay us,so I guess the money they saved could be spent replacing the vinyl.............LOL.
  13. Magazine subscription anyone?

Ryan, Yes,if you want to give away the steel eagle we will drive up to take it off your hands.....LOL.
  14. XJets

I have the same feeling about listing a competitors price on a product that is sold in this BBS's store.I have asked if this is ok since it is between contractors and not from a distributor.
  15. Hurricanes are killing me

Lance, I know several guys in Fl,farther south than you that are in the same boat. They haven't worked in almost 1 1/2 months, plus some are paying for repairs on their homes also. We have been slow for months, with the exception of our commercial accounts we have done just about zero.I know it's difficult,as we are in the same position.Keep you chin things will get better.
  16. Brick Restoration project

I say before the sealer. Reason:Once sealed the moss and mold won't be able to attach to the brick as easy.Applying the mildewcide before will kill any deep inbedded moss and mold roots and prevent growth from under the sealer. Then a light maint. cleaning will be to remove whatever has tried to grow on the sealer.
  17. Brick Restoration project

"Someone Else" was taking the owner of this property for a ride. They should be ashamed, but instead,I'm sure they were laughing all the way to the bank. After ya'll get done cleaning it the owner will be thrilled that it looks so good, yet very angry that the other contractor took advantage of them.
  18. Brick Restoration project

Ok where is the pic?....or ...........Did ya'll clean it that good?..........LOL.
  19. XJets

The M5 has a variable tip,I think it's O degree to 60 degree. The original comes with a low pressure tip that screws into the end.We use the original and love it,a lot of people prefer the M5 for housewasshing because they can change spray patterns quickly.
  20. Tennis Courts

Wow @ $.28 sq ft that will put your bid at $7761 and some change.HOA's are notoriously cheap and they may break and run on that bid(if my math is right,if not please correct me) We would have bid this around $.13 sq ft.
  21. Tennis Courts

Degraffreed, You can use the surface cleaner,as long as,the surface is intact. We would use our housewash mix on this(citracleen and chlorine,I think the citracleen is along the same lines as limeolene).Less than 3000psi should work(you may need to put larger tips in the surface cleaner to lower your PSI).Do a test patch to see how the surface reacts to the chems and the pressure. You may end up using water only. If there is peeling paint or surface damage(cracks, damaged texture coating if present)you would be best served recommending to the HOA/Property managment that they have the court resurfaced.
  22. Hurricane Frances

Lance, Good to hear you are doing okay.My parents live in Jax(they haven't had power since Sat. evening and lost phone Sun afternoon)I was relieved that they came through without major damage. While we haven't has the sevre weatehr that Florida has,we are getting the leftovers of Frances now.Rain and light winds started Sat. afternoon.By Sun. we were getting steady rain and winds between 40 - 60 mph,we are expected to get 5" - 10" of rain between now and Wed. Here are some pics from around town. The pine tree top on the fence is in our backyard. The fence stopped the tree from hitting a large propane tank. The awning is on an auction company here in town and the oak tree is in the yard of the church we attend,we cleaned the building and concrete about 2 weeks ago.
  23. I got Wood!!

Alan, If I understand correctly the flat area on this deck should be 1200sq ft.,you are only figuring price on restoring the top of the boards. You need to figure in the railing ,spindles, top and bottom sides of the boards. I think you'll find your price will rise if you total it the way I mention.I still play hit and miss with decks. Homeowners here aren't willing to pay what they are worth so we don't do many.
  24. If you grew up in the 80's you can relate

The dodge commercial "Don't buy no uglt truck"
  25. One Year Old

A cleaning with a percab would help remove any graying and mold growth if any.Why was it left to weather?
