The learning tool for newbies on this site should start with the search function a the top of the page. There is enough info in the archives of this site to make your brain explode, but it's well worth your time to seek the answers most commonly asked by newbies there first. Also, please add a signature to your profile. It's site policy. -
Jeff it's called shotgun or artillery fungus.Do a search for either and you will get all the answers you need.

Olympic Stain
squirtgun replied to troymclur's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Lyle, We did a PT porch early this year wiith the OMAX,but it was the oil based. It was teh 1st wood resto we have done in over 2 yrs.We no longer pursue it,but if it comes to us and they will pay the prices I charge we get-r-done. The cedar tone is the only color option I have ever offered in the OMAX.I found out early on if I gave customers to many color choices they couldn't make up their minds or wanted to change half way through staining. -
I wouldn't have put it out there if I didn't think we could have helped you.The daily rate isn't enough to choke a horse, but we do charge enough to make road trips worth while. All is good............:)

How many mega tons was it?

Oh Jeff LOL I live 7 hours away so I'm not really after your PM's.I offered our services and you never bothered to pick up the phone and see what it would cost you to make it happen. P.S. I'm pretty sure I have the same high standards of cleaning a property as you do.If someone is writing me us a check their job becomes our job we aren't in the habit of doing things 1/2 way because it's not our contract. But hey......... Good Luck and continued success.

Nice attitude snappy and pretentious all balled into one,but then again I guess being the king you can do that.

Between $6k and $32K to build a rig on a $15k job? I still think you could sub it for around what you would pay for the lower priced rig and come out looking like a hero to the PM.

I just made an enemy, and for some reason don't feel bad

You handled it perfectly. -
Just to let those who call me know (if you have never spoke on the phone with me in the past). 1.If you call at 8am I didn't just wake up,the same applies for any other time of day. 2.No I have not been eating glass. 3.No I have not been drinking bleach This is my normal everyday voice.

I have been going round with eth local news channels as of late about this.We are exempt from the water restriction, but when they were runniing stories about it on the news they were only specifying car washes were exepmt. Finally early this week I got through to them and they included a complete list of the types of businesses that are exempt from the water restrictions.I have printed a copy of the news story and the state guidelines that I show to all customers now. It's been a big help this week.

I would rather sub out work vs. buying a new rig and hiring and training new guys on short notice. When I come across big bids that I know we can not handle on our own I immediately start to think of who I know in BBS land that is experienced and has the equipment to help who will be able get in,do it right, get out and get paid. Good Luck

I guess buying a new machine is cheaper than what I would charge per day.
-
Dude,my wife will work circles around you and I.I'll just be along to pull the rig..........lol.

How much is it worth to get us and our rig there?

Olympic Stain
squirtgun replied to troymclur's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
We have had great success using the OMAX stain. For stain that can be purchased from box store I think it holds up well.We rarely do wood anymore, but all of the decks we used the OMAX on 3 yrs ago still look good, most are due for maintenance now,but the stain has not failed. Prep is the most important part of applying any stain.Prep it right and the stain will the job it's designed to do. -
I gave up many of my OCD habits 5 yrs ago.My brain was constantly in over drive and I was rarely getting over 2 hrs of sleep a night. My brain is stuck in drive now,but I sleep better even if bed time is 2AM evey night. I used to do every job as if it were a monument to the company and it would get us put in the history books(any job I have ever had I did the same thing). Now I have found a middle ground on what I feel both us and the HO can live with.No complaints so far. I fully agree that pushing to get everything perfect has caused me more than once to put things off.Mostly from the fear they wouldn't meet my standards or some preconceived standards I thought our customers had. Angela finally helped me realize that customers want a clean property and don't expect it to look new. When I don't over think every little detail in my life it seems as thought things go smoother.

We all need to say a prayer for the students and families of those injured or killed at VA. Tech this morning.31 dead and 29 injured.

We were on a job today and when the hot water side of the machine went crazy. It started with the burned not shutting off everytime the trigger was released or shutting off late. Then the water became seriously hot well above the 200 degrees it supposed to be.I had Angela remove the gun and open the ball valve and let the water run for a few minutes while I tried to figure out what was going on.As she was setting down the end of the hose a stream of black soot color water shot out for 2 or 3 seconds. Now the burner won't fire off. I replaced the reed switch late last year and that could be the cause, but I'm not sure. We have a commercial flat work job to do tuesday so I need to get this figured out ASAP.

WARNING....Has this happened to you too?
squirtgun replied to Christopher's question in The Club House
Let me rephrase this.............I've had customers research the business to be better educated, but they haven't used the info in the manner in which Chris decribes.I still think it was done to beat you down on price. Maybe she'll register and chime in with her point of view. -
That what I was asking Russ about. So is there a way to reset the darn thing or do you just replace it?

WARNING....Has this happened to you too?
squirtgun replied to Christopher's question in The Club House
It happens...there are internet savy HO's and they do research about services before they hire contractor.I've never come up against one,but if I do it won't become an avenue for them to beat me down on price. I would prefer that BBS were register to read, but most are not.The vast majority of HO's that do research our industry online are only doing it so they know how to hire a legit contractor. Chris if she didn't need you she wouldn't have called you.She used the BBS to beat you down on price and she should be ashamed of herself for doing it.
