  1. Regardless of the verdict, since the only people in the world that knows 100% for sure what went on between them (TM and GZ), why do people feel entitled to go out in roving bands and rob people, destroy property and loot and steal what ever they want???? This particular case is not about race, this tragedy and events like it, have become an excuse for certain people to behave outside of societal norms. What Rick said is true, we have social problems. Where are all the people screaming about the gang violence in Chicago that killed 40 people in one weekend recently?? Its almost not even new worthy...... Why?? On Fox news the other night, I listened to two men talk about the problems in this country and they hit it on the head. There are few good role models for people. We have a "hip hop" culture that teaches about the glamor of drug use, gangs and violence. Who talks about religion?? God?? Doing the right thing?? The future is not looking so good.

  2. I wasn't. You have any thoughts on the linseed oil or burnt motor oil? I don't want to put something that covers up the screw heads cause it would make it a pain when having to replace the boards. I think I would rather leave it untreated than put a liner on it cause I can replace the boards every couple years.

Maybe some left over ready seal or Ac if you use that. Same effect as the lineed oil. I would stay away from the usd motor oil. The sheen running off the trailer may be a turn off, plus the odor wouldn't be too nice. When its time to replace the boards, alot of guys around here are buying rough sawn lumber, hardwood and a full 2 inch thick, not 1.5 inch and they like it. Stronger, lasts longer etc. Just a thought...

  3. i actually thought about putting this on the floor of my new utility trailer for pressure washing. I am still on the fence about it, but only for protecting it against bleach and our chems.

do yourself a huge favor and apply an oil based stain kill primer to clean and bare wood, then 2 coats of herculiner. You will be thankful you did not use that acrylic garbage from lowes!!!!!!!!!!!!

Herculiner is mek based, tough as nails and resists the chems real well. I spilled 15% on it and it sat for 2 days. Rinsed off and the only evidence was a little discolored puddle shape, all good tho.

  4. I think that many probably agree with me. There's nothing against a man who's working two jobs and busting his tail to make it.

The pita comes when a part time hack lowballs bids because his business is floated by another job. It's not something that I spend too much time worrying about but it happens on a regular basis. Normally a few things happen. It takes us longer to secure the agreement because this guy may be given a shot or places doubt, or they screw crap up really bad and make us all look bad. A lot of times both.

Of course, I only know my market. I'm sure y'all guys don't operate like that.

    Chris,

I am far from a lowball hack and would never low price something to stay busy. My available time is limited and as such, needs to be profitable to make it worth it. As an entrepreneur, I understand money, finances and investments. I have a full time job, available overtime from the full time job, the "part time" pressure washing business as well as real estate investments (which produce rent). I have three or four revenue streams and am always looking for more. The bottom line for me is that my pw business allows me the ability to afford things that I would otherwise not afford. As far as "skin in the game" goes, I can post pics of my equipment and the shop that I own (not rent or pay a mortgage on). I would say that I have put enough blood, sweat and tears into this business over the years to compare what I have built to many full timers. The beauty is that I can cherry pick work that is profitable because I pay my bills with other income(s). I would say that I have alot more to offer this industry than alot of the self proclaimed successfuls that support the hate mongoring on the boards.

p.s. John, thank you for the kind words.

  5. I just have to laugh at the ignornat comments made about people that have another "job" but also powerwash. Many people portray themselves in this industry as an entrepreneur and as industry leaders, but they think that people who don't do this "full time" or only should not have a say or opinion about anything that goes on. I hope that people do their due dilligence and ignore the folish comments made on the internet about other people that they know nothing about.

I just have to laugh at the attempts to discredit people. If you think about it, what right minded adult does not have or try to have multiple steams of revenue?? Regardless of the sources of revenue, anyone that thinks that they only need a power washer for their and their families future financial success is fooling themselves. People don' plan to fail, they fail to plan. Make this business something that allows you to prosper and invest the earnings wisely. You can make money in many other markets and investments while you continue to spray water. You don't want to be the guy that lets things get away from you and wake up broke one day wondering what you did it all for.

  6. What is his mileage charge? http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl Does he charge for trips back to his shop to get parts?

I am pretty certain that he does not service Oregon. The truck is stocked with most components needed to solve most issues so to date, he has never had to leave on me to fix something. Maybe I have been lucky...... I don't know his service area, all I know is that he services my service area.

  7. Thank you Michael.

Do you fix your equipment yourself? Any good shops in NJ or Philadelphia you know of?

I try to fix anything that breaks myself. There is one guy in NJ that is mobile out of Hackettstown, meaning he will come to you, and he is about the only guy I use. Most of the time, I can figure it out myself or with a phone call or two.

The new shop makes working on equipment alot easier that doing it in a truck, trailer or my own garage.

  8. How do I bypass thermostat? I opened control box and there are 2 wires going to the top of the dial and probe from the bottom to the coil outlet.

take the two wires that go to the thermostat and put them together. This will run contiual current and bypass the thermostat. I would not suggest running this way with hot water too long because it will continue to create heat and ignite the fuel that will continually run in the burner. Its meant as a diagnostic tool to see if that is the thing in sequence that needs to be replaced.

  9. I dont think that the degreaser will clean the gutters without agitation. You can apply all you want, without the "rub" I dont believe that it will work. In addition, if you over apply, then you will deal with the dripping issues anyway. I can replace a gutter brush for under $10, bet you can't replace the gun and internals of the graco for near that.

    JUst my $0.02.

  12. I'm guessing "org crap" doesn't mean all things Org related....That's up for grabs as well but I take it to be in reference to all the recent opposition discussion directed to one specific Org......drop that crap.

I never said or implied the vendors that are "not" speaking up were disingenuous....There are people here that cannot post directly on the other BBS and those that cannot post here. Is anyone over at the other site telling them to drop the crap?

For the record....I don't really do much wood anymore but from 09-11 all I used was AC stain and still refer people that call to his site.

Unfortunately, the biggest cheerleader, and leader of them all, encourges it due to his unwillingness to let anyone that disagrees with him be successful.

Back to some wood talk...... who wants to do a giveaway since that is the topic of the thread??

  13. Are there guys out there using others people work photos for their marketing because they do not have their own??

The reason that I ask that is because if a group of people have or use the same photos and use them in their marketing, customers are going to see widely used photos which will make people aware that they are fake or creating a false impression. In addition to that each photo has a metadata file that usually has gps data, time and date taken info etc. In todays tech savvy world, people can check the metadata content of "your" photo and see that you are being phony. I doubt that this will lead to great results in your selling of work.

I highly recommend that you take the time to take your own photos of your own work so that you can market yourself, your company and your product. If they are yours and your only, there will be no confusion and you can be truthful with your customers. If you live in Florida and are using a photo taken in Arizona, you could get caught with your pants down so to speak. This is aimed especially new contractors. Don't fall into a trap here, the nest benefit you can give yourself is your own work photos. There is no benefit to you in doing this....

I would like to hear others thoughts on this.

  14. This is not an attack on anyone or particular group. Nor is it an indication of my feelings on some of arguments I have seen on the different forums.

You have no 1st amendment rights on a BBS, just like you have no 1st amendment rights at a workplace. The 1st amendment states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

If the Admins on a BBS whether it be ***, TGS, PTstate, etc.... censors a thread or bans a member there are no constitutional issues at play. Just like if someone bad mouths the company they work for and then get terminated. You can better believe that when I have employees working for me, and they badmouth myself, or company they will be looking for a new job. Not because I plan to run a dictatorship, but I do not want someone representing me who says negative things about me or my company to the public. Imagine if one of your employees said XYZ Pressure Washing is the worst, they do shoddy work and they rip customers off. Do you want them working for you while saying that? Or would have a now hiring sign posted somewhere?

It happens all the time. There are too many news stories about some dumb waitress who complained on Facebook, Twitter, etc... about customers. Or someone who works in an office complaining about their boss. The news covers it because it is sensational, and they portray the newly unemployed as a victim. I would rather the news just say "Some idiot got themselves fired, and XYZ company is looking for good help. Now here is Steve with the weekend weather."

Interesting part of this tho is as follows......

Beth & Rod own The Grime Scene

Bob from Pressure Tek owns PT State

    Ron owns PW I

Who owns The ***** one??? I truly don't know. I thought the org was collectively owned by its members. Do the members own the BBS?? Who makes calls on the BBS and how?? Does the membership have a say?

The interesting thing about the ***** site is that it is dedicated to "furthering the pressure washing industry" what exactly does that mean though..... basically in the eyes of who is it furthering the industry and how??

Who is the decision maker for that. What I am saying is that if you are a BBS member there, apparently you were counted as a free member or something like that, or at least in the threads regarding memership numbers that was the case. If someone is banned there, as a free member or BBS member (I don't know the classifications exactly) then how do you get banned for no reason and not breaking the rules. If this occurred on another BBS that was provately owned, there would be a large outcry about it. I have asked and not received an answer about the why, when I got an email stating that it would be reviewed.

At the very least, it is censorship for an unwarranted purpose. How can you expect contractors to respect things like this occurring when the mantra is about transparency and the like??

Not looking to start or continue a fight here, just kinda thinking outloud.....

Sad state of affairs if this remains the case.

  15. I talked to Jim today. He was released this morning and is resting. He needs to go for more testing to see if maybe there was a restricted blood vessel that may have caused his problem. The doctor ordered him to take a few days rest.

Jim wanted me to let the bb's community know that he appreciates the concern and well wishes.

Thats good news John. Your health is your wealth.... I hope it all works out for him.
