  1. Fuzzies on Cedar Poll

I allways try to predict the fuzz, mostly happens on very weathered cedar, or the tough strip jobs, place an optional price for a full sand aside, I go 30 -40 cents/ft. Some will, others wont, price shoppers might tell you you get the job if you throw it in.
  2. Hit that whole side with the same mix, and cross your fingers.
  3. Tan lines ....

I have the hairless permasocks as well, hope nobody post's a glowbut.
  4. Nice, floor allmost looks like composite in the photo, I can allmost hear my guys screaming " NO MORE BLUE TAPE "!!
  5. just a little guy

Good job, did you use HD-80 to strip?, That powder works great on the film formers, minus the affect on painted aluminum, allthough I haven't had any problems with aluminum spindles, have to take extra precautions on other items of concern.
  6. Sikkens deck base topped with cetol 23, just walk away.
  7. I think that the big box stores should exclude the zero (red) tip when renting to homeowners, 8 of 10 choose the zero for some reason, must be a brain color thing?? I have seen so many decks ruined by this including a past customer who applied BEHR (first mistake), then rented a unit, and chose the red, this guy did the entire deck unknowing, mind you the deck was only two years old (cedar 12,000.00 deck), he then called us and although we cant bring back the damage he caused, he is content with as good as it gets.
  8. 2009 Sealer Poll

TWP, I have tried alot of different stuff and have not had the results that I like in a sealer, OPW has all the choices, gave them a shot, and in my personal opinion, I stick with what works. Sometimes, I think sealers work different in other parts of the U.S.??, but just an observation.
  9. Deposits anyone????

30-50% down after cleaning seems to be fair, I have also thought of 10% down upon acceptance (non refundable) to eliminate the customers who "shop around while they are waiting". After all, we drove for the estimate, maybe spent time with the customer, and scheduled the job. I get a few a year but still haven't done it, anyone else?
  10. 2009 Sealer Poll

Scott, (opw), what do you think of AC ? Look at these reviews/votes? I think you also carry it now,?, what are your thoughts, it is gaining some ground here.
  11. I'm building my own sureflo rig, (or delavan not sure?) what I really need advise on is a tip. I'm used to my airless sprayer and am wondering if I can get a somewhat similar flow/fan. My buddies all use the shandawa wands but I'm not a circle pattern guy. I have tried so many things like the tip off of my chapin pump up, and powerwasher tips (which show possibilities). I still have not tried an airless tip (large), allthough I did try running it through my airless gun just to see but it wont make it through the airless gun because I think there is too many restrictions whithin the gun, just wondering if anyone has figured out a perfect fan tip for this style of rig? any help would be appreciated, thanks.
  12. I do also,(currently titans) but I like the fact thet these pumps are cheap and last a very long time, I'll find a tip that works from pressuretek, My friend scott from thesealerstore is building a prototype unit that will make other sprayers pale in comparison for spraying sealers, and will soon be for sale on the site, I'm just tinkering with tips and such, I believe these units could spray somewhat like an airless (with sealers, and the proper tip), but way cheaper to service, and will outlast any sprayer that I have used tenfold, plus the fact of having a truck mount system will speed up jobs, Thanks for the reply, hope your season is going well!
  13. Looks good! Older treated wood allways seems to hold sealers longer, I completed two cedar decks last year with tux warm honey gold, and will be stopping by soon to get pics, Expecially the one where the customer has a pool and a hot tub, 3 kids, and a dog, twp honeytone did not wear great on his floor the first time in his situation, but the honeytone does not last long in the first place because it is too light and burns off quick anyway due to lack of pigment which affects u.v. protection.
  14. stripping paint

Methylene chloride sold as dads in some stores, make sure to suit up and wear a respirator, goggles,ect... Sometimes STRIP-X L will work.
  15. What to use?

HD, mix it strong, let it dwell for about 15-20, your going to have some sanding to do, maybee use 60's on a orbital.
  16. One newbee question, 0 dollars; 90 views, 0 dollars; ONE response from a community of thousands, priceless. THANKS PHIL!
  17. Looks great! Still waiting for the snow to quit here in michigan.
  18. Hd-80

Yeah, scott is allways on the ball, stocks tons of supply, allmost never out of stock, and ships items quickly. Glad I'm only 20 minutes from the store. rj242: if your nervous and really need it, maybee get some from scott for now and I'm sure russell will come through, I dont think an extra bucket of HD will go to waste.
  19. We try at least one new product per year, scott THEPROSEALERSTORE, has a wide selection and we have two "test dummy decks" where the customer is ok as long as I am. Still keep going back to our all time favorite TWP. Will try the woodrich this year and see how it goes, we also stop by these decks at 6 months, and a year to see how well they have performed. Dont want to just change over without the research of our own. Still waiting for the next best sealer, expecially with the 101/voc deal approaching soon.
  20. Do you use this type of setup? How does it spray? I guess I'm being kind of picky about how I want my spray pattern. A friend of mine is building a stainless steel model fully equiped w/200 ft of hose, deep cycle marine battery, delavan pump, ect.., they will also be on the market hopefully soon and I allready know that I'll need my own tip that I am used too. To each his own I guess. I have been tinkering with this sureflo since last year, just having the tip issue, I want to switch because these pumps last quite a while and would be a savings over the longhaul. Thanks, I'll give you a call next week and we'll hook up.
  21. sanding decks

KEN: I totally agree with you about the sanding/profit margin/whats the customer willing to pay for! I just quit sanding last year (unless a customer says I want sanding) and what a difference in profit! Used to sand every deck for the same price as guys that do not, now it's an upcharge if requested.
  22. KEN: I only use 100 for very smooth/new wood on rough and/or stubborn spots (expecially new with mill glaze), if we use anything lower it makes swirl marks and looks worse than what we are trying to fix, most of the time just to get rid of small spots of sealer left on the deck after stripping 60 works just fine, changing pads often, and i'm talking small areas a couple inches or so. Not many guys this way do anything about it except just seal over it. Been working great for me for 13 years, Not talking sanding the whole floor, wow, this topic got pretty scientific.(LOL)
  23. Strippers

Dads would work great, maybe lay some plastic over the pool or float it if there is water to collect debris as much as possible.
  24. Methods on reaching high gutters to clean?

    double post (oops) bump!
  25. Methods on reaching high gutters to clean?

Fiberglass stepladder with steps on both sides so you can stradle (heavy duty!), extension pole, soft bristle brush, 5 gallon bucket w/chems, elbow grease, and rinse.
