Mixing the witches brew!
CLASSICPW replied to Midwesternmarylander's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I don't agree with 12.5% being too strong, to me it is just concentrated sodium hyporchlorite so I just dilute it. Therefore a 5 gallon jug of pool shock just goes farther for the buck. I also use greased lightning and jet dry for a rinse agent except when i'm doing a paint prep for a contractor where I'll remove the jet dry. The only problem with paint prep is that it leaves the windows spotty. Usually the painter will clean the windows when they are done. -
I've got a Hydrotek sc3005. Last night I was washing a grocery store and the hot water quit on me. I'm not sure what it is, the tank of diesel is full, when I turn on the burner and pull the trigger it fires for about 5 seconds then quits. I need help quick, I've got a parking garage this weekend and I need this machine to be putting out hot water...thanks.

Thanks guys, I call Tom too much, I hate to bother him. I just ordered a new fuel filter, that should be here today. It's not the battery, it's not a 12V burner. I had a blockage in the coil so I haven't used hot water since January. I fixed the blockage and the other night was the first time I've used it. It ran fine for about 1/2 hr, then nothing.

done in a day

How did you wash and stain in one day? Olympic requires dry time. God, I hate fences. I'll be in your area next month. I wash all the Merritt Athletic clubs. -
1st airless experience
CLASSICPW posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I stripped a cedar deck 3 weeks ago and the owner wanted a solid stain. Luckily the deck looked like crap, even after the brightener, just very inconsistant. I went out with a helper and stated to brush on Sherwin Williams Deckscapes waterborne solid in some nasty light brown color. 2 hrs into it the prissy wife comes out and was totally disgusted by the color, I said no problem you pay for my time and the new color and I'll come back...........no problem. I went and bought an airless and the 8hr brush and roll job took 2.5hrs. I hate my own guts for not buying one of these earlier. If I could have the countless hours and frustration back from all the bullcrap brushing and rolling I've done I would be a better man. There was very minimal overspray that my helper cleaned up with no problem and the finish was way better than ugly brushstrokes. -

beware of home depot's outdoor bleach. That stuff is expensive versus using normal grocery store bleach. Honestly food lion's bleach is the best buy. -
Here's a lesson to learn: We washed a produce warehouse room last month. It was full of mildew and was washed to be a "clean room" We x-jetted the room with chlorine....,ceilings, walls, floors. My helper and I did not wear any protection and we spent that night gasping for breath. We both suffered chlorine burns to our lungs. I didn't sleep that night because I had to sit upright and gasp for breath for about 8 hours. I finally can breath again normal, but i should have been in the hospital sucking oxygen. PLEASE LEARN FROM MY STUPID MISTAKE!!!!!!. I could have and may have done permanent damage to my lungs. From now on I will always wear a respirator on house washes and these types of jobs. That night that I couldn't breath I was so scared that i almost cried. It was ver uncool!!

Some companies custom build trailers....for big bucks. Don't forget to vent your exhaust. Co2 can build up in there and make you sick. I've never figured a way to vent the heater exhaust on my Hydrotek, I guess with sheet metal. that's why I still have an open trailer. Open trailers suck because everything is out in the elements, I'm always sanding rust and repainting.

Wayne is right on the cost from the pool places, it's high. I would love to buy a pallet of chlorine, but I don't have a cool, shaded place to keep it. Chlorine degrades faster that you think. My pool place, namco, is full of idiots. They place their pallets in the front window, in full sunlight. Many times I had to talk to a manager( 18 yr old kid!) to get a refund because I went to a job with a 5 gal jug of "sweet smelling water" I educated them on the reason for this and they moved it to the back of the store. The next year, different manager, back in the window. -
water in my readyseal
CLASSICPW posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I had a 5 gal of readyseal out back this winter and water leaked into it. Has anyone had this prob and is there any good tips on removing the water? -
I bought some efc-38 and it was crap....old and didn't work, he sent me a new pail asap. He was very awesome about it.

So funny that this was posted. When I'm slow I'll drive around like a dirty house stalker. I have houses on my list that are solid green. Here's the best part....I have these awesome post cards that say..GOT MOLD!! and they show some chick grabbing her face like ohhh. The card has a before and after of dirty and clean siding and a 20% discount. I drop these post cards all the time to these homes only to get a zero response. I think I know why. The people who's houses have been this dirty for so long are just dirty people and don't give a crap about how there house looks. It's really the only explanation because I've sent the same houses the same house wash cards 3 years in a row and they are still filthy, moldy, nasty homes. I

water in my readyseal
CLASSICPW replied to CLASSICPW's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I actually think I beat it. I poured the sealer into a 5 gal bucket. when it settled I poured the oil off the top and left the water in the bottom.....which I poured into an old bleach bottle. I think It worked out. -

What's the coldest temps you've applied sealer/stain
CLASSICPW posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I primarily use readyseal now and sherwin-williams for solids and some semi-trans applications. SW and ready can (I believe) can be applied as low as 35 degrees. Anybody have any probs in the cold? I've never attempted below 45, but I've got a fence that requires 10 gal of ready that I washed a month ago, but it's been cold here and there. Share the horror stories -
oil based sealers/stains off the skin
CLASSICPW posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I primarily use Readyseal and was just curious what tips people have about removing it from your skin after finishing the job. I was using waterless hand cleaner, sometimes mineral spirits, but that stuff is so bad for your skin(and your health) What's are your tips on the quick fix, I hate the sticky steering wheel syndrome! Also, I use a backpack sprayer and something in my truck shifted and hid the button on the wand dumping 2 gallons of cedar in my truck bed which dumped on the ashpalt in the street. It looks terrible and since it's cold here I haven't taken care of it yet. I'm planning on stripping it and hot water. -

When I get home and shower, I use my wife's foo-foo face scrub, it works great. What I'm looking for is on the job hand cleanup. -
I got to one of my grocery store accounts tonight to find that ALL my high pressure hoses had burst from the cold, 300 ft. I can get them repaired, but isn't there a way we can do it ourselves. I know you can buy the fittings, but what about the tool that crimps them on? BTW, I usually have no problem, but I think because I left my gun on the water had nowhere to go when it froze.

I do condo's in my area with 2 hot water machines and a 3 guy crew . The sq footage you gave would take us 1 week @ $12,000- $15,000. Then I saw your pics. The condo's we do are vinyl siding so we xjet, rinse, move on. You got yourself stucco and huge columns.......could be a pain in the ass. Sometimes stucco wont cleanup from the x-jet and you need to get close and personal. $25K plus 60' boom lift. NOT a job for a newbie unless you want a 1 week job to take 3.
