  1. A customer with a cedar deck has a 5 gal can of sunfrog he wants applied, anyone ever use this?
  2. sunfrog

It's actually a clear sealer. He wants it washed and reapplied every year. Every sq in of this cedar deck was sanded. He loves the color of the natural cedar. Eccentric doctor.
  3. chem pump

I've been using a 4gal backpack sprayer for a year now to spray chems and I love it......well it broke. I want to step up to a shurflo pump. I've got a handcart that I'll attach a 5 gal bucket to. I'm going to harbor freight to buy a mini hose reel for about 30 ft of hose and I have a battery, but i can't remember the best size shurflo to use or the best site to buy it from. Thanks for the help.
  4. Tom

I lost Tom Vogle's number, does anyone have his e-mail and or number, thanks alot.
  5. Wrong house

I had a customer last month who gave me a story about hios nighbor coming home to people washing his deck, he even got a free stain!!
  6. My new brochure and flyer - take a look!

I think it's fantastic, but why do you state "cold water?" Most of my commercial clients love to hear "hot water."
  7. I've been dropping a steady $120 a week in gas. That includes $100 in deisel for my truck and burner and $20 for the washer. Thank god I bought a deisel F250, If I had bought a gasser It would be $200 a week. My last truck was a V6 toyota and I'm getting almost the same mpg with the deisel.
  8. Best Solid Deck Stain??

I apply solids occasionally and through trial and error I found that Duron and Sherwin Williams are the most user friendly. They have a built in primer and the coverage is 100% on 1 coat. Cabots and Ben Moore products are better but not user friendly at all.
  9. How much $ in gas per week

Jeeez, I didn't know how tiny my company was until you guys chimed in. I'm still working like a slave bangin out 2-3 jobs a day 6 days a week. I feel very unaccomplished now......thanks guys!! Seriously, though, I'm spending 120/week in gas yet driving all over god's creation and finishing 5-6 decks, flatwork and house washes. Either you're all pulling 20 ft trailers with v10's or somebody is exaggerating.
  10. How much $ in gas per week

how many rigs do you run Ron?
  11. I had my first strip job of the season the other day, which is weird because usually I would have had at least 6 so far, but I guess I've been lucky. Anyway I went to nuetralize it and the battery on my washer was smoking! Apparently I neglected to put water in it and the washer wouldn't restart. My main question is....what are the repercussions of staining a deck without it being neutralized after being stripped. I've never done it before. The guy wants a clear sealer, which I refused to put down, I talked him into a toner. The deck looks great, I'm just curious if the finish will hold since I used HD-80 and didn't ph balance it.
  12. strip issue

I always apply citralic, I live by it. My problem was that my battery died on my washer after the stip. I actually turned the washer off to give it a break while i mixed up the chems and when I turned the key.....nothing. It all worked out though, it's supposed to rain tomorrow so I'll go back out and wash his house and neutralize the deck. MMMMMMM the sweet smell of chlorine gas.
  13. strip issue

my worry is not the color, but the stripper residue. Even though I'm a rinsing fanatic I'm worried that the hd-80 residue will not let the sealer adhere correctly.
  14. looking for a cheap used hot water unit in the maryland area. I've got a big job and need a 2nd machine
  15. I just bought a great rig from Scott(Flimmy) off this forum and I've never been happier. It's a Hydrotek 3000 psi 5 gpm deisel fired unit. I fired up the burner the other day and no hot water. I tried it again 2 days later and it worked fine. I tried it tonight and it wouldn't work at all. I am not familiar at all with these hot water units. The first 4 times I used it I forgot to turn off the burner before shutting off the engine because i was not used to it. Did I hurt it by doing this? I'm completely illiterate to how these washers work so as we speak I'm doing research, but any help would be appreciated.
  16. hd-80

Works great on concrete. DO NOT put it in the housewash mix, it'll destroy anything aluminum like gutters window trim etc. I believe it'll also etch glass.
  17. Cabot's SPF continued

I have a customer right now who has Cabot's on her Ipe and wants a was and recoat. Luckily i couldn't find her address.
  18. Ron, you have 11 trailer units? I guess life's good in Arizona. Tunatussle, I just learned that gpm is the key to all cleaning. I've actually known it for years but never had the funds to support it. Now that I have it, I'll never leave it. If you use your bigger machine at a lower psi with more hose you'll love the diff it makes.
  19. 8gpm XJET

just curious, I've went up 1 GPM and I can barely handle my new machine for 4-6 hrs straight. It's 5 gpm. How do you guys handle the kick on 8 gpm?
  20. Vehicle

Geeeez. Am I the youngest person here? My first car was a 1985 Olds Cutlass Supreme. My dream car used to be a a 66 chevy nova until I learned about the Mitsubishi evolution VIII. I've seen one, but never knew how insane they were until I was watching TV the other night and they raced it against a Lamborghini Murcielago. It didn't lose. For $35,000 off the showroom floor you can have a 4 door sedan that does 0-60 in 4.4 secs. Imagine smoking EVERYTHING on the road with your wife and kids in the car and a trunk full of groceries.
  21. It's funny, I just bought a rig from Scott(Flimmy) and it sucks so bad hauling around this trailer, but i love it. It is so much easier pulling hose off a reel and turning a key. I used to haul off a cold water machine off a truck, unroll 100 ft of hose and 75 ft of supply and have to constantly pull that damn cord to fire it up. Now I have the unloader pumped back into the tank so the washer can run for hours without pulling the trigger. I hate pulling the trailer, but it saves so much labor that it's unreal.
  22. Insurance

Same here Jon, Walters is the best I found. My car/homeowners is Allstate and they wanted around $1700 for commercial!!
  23. making the transition

Hmmmmm, when did I make the transition. I guess that would be when I washed and stained 1 deck that took me a total of 5 hrs and realized that I made in 5 hrs what I make in a 40 hour week at my job. It wasn't rocket science to figure that one out.
  24. consumer fears

It seems in my area I'm(besides Lou Beach) am the only person who researches pressure cleaning on the internet. Soooo many of my estimates are people with fears of contractors blowing off their siding or destroying their deck from past experience. I really believe that out of the 20 contractors in my area Lou and i are the only ones that use x-jets. It's funny because now with house washes I'm the low baller. Everyone else is employing 2 people using ladders taking 6-8 hrs to wash a house and charging $4-600.00. I'm charging $2-400 and taking 1-2 hrs and the house is coming cleaner than the ladder appraoch. This is the first time that I love uneducated people, or at least the ones that don't do proper research.
  25. The X-Jet debate

Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm thinking that psi not gpm would be the determining factor in how far the x-jet will reach. Someone enlighten me.
