losing $$$$
Mike Williamson replied to jbruno's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Looks great, Bruno!!! Looks like that roof could use a cleaning too! ;) -
Hell...I can't either. I don't think I ever knew their names, other than looking at names/pics on a website dedicated to them.

Help Choosing A Surface Cleaner
Mike Williamson replied to TNT Pressure Washing's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
You won't be disappointed! -
That works to a very limited degree. You might be surprised at the number of people who vote strictly based on either what they've seen on TV/heard on radio/read in print, or based on name recognition. They don't think about the issues, they don't really care...So basically the politician with big purse strings has a LOT of advantage over the opponent who doesn't...

How long till the US gets into the fray....
Mike Williamson replied to Beth n Rod's question in The Club House
Oh, I believe this stuff with Israel and Hezbollah is certainly part of something, but I don't think it's what you think it is... " Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it." How long till the US gets into the fray....
Mike Williamson replied to Beth n Rod's question in The Club House
No, I don't think you're full of it, and I'm certainly not a complete and total skeptic.....But when you make claims such as you have about government and private industry conspiracies, you should expect people to be skeptical, and to ask questions. I think you're a pretty smart guy, from what I've read and heard. Just don't expect me, or anyone else, to take that type of thing at face value just because you say it's so... I don't see oil rights or oil access as being one of our reasons for going into any particular country. Yes, I think it plays a factor in how we deal diplomatically with various leaders...what else can explain our long-term relationship with a nation such as Saudi Arabia. I don't see that as a Bush thing, I see that as a nation protecting it's interests...it's in our best interest to have access to oil. Is that why we went into Iraq? Gimme a break. Yeah, we've been there over two years (or is it three? I can't even remember) and I see how we have cheap gas now!! Oil prices are at record lows! Woohoo! I don't see Bush as a conspirator, an evil man, or a stupid man. I see him as a President with a weakness in communication, dealing with a very very difficult task, despite the critics and haters. I don't believe for a moment that he sent thousands of men into danger just to obtain access to Iraqi oil (which we already HAD access to...Oil for food, anyone???) -

The punch is provided by the machine! As long as all the parts are working, surfacers all work basically the same...they spin and spray water. -
Help Choosing A Surface Cleaner
Mike Williamson replied to TNT Pressure Washing's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
There are three things I didn't like about the Steel Eagle I had (24" non-adjustable with the Dueblin union). First, it was heavy...quite a bit more so than the 28" Big Guy. Second, the union is EXPENSIVE. Dang near $400.00. Third, the spray bars are heavy, and easily bent. I've paid as little as $20.00 each, and as much as $40.00 each. They get knocked out of the right spray angle too easily, and it's a pain to adjust them. I don't have to worry about any of that with the Big Guy. Lightweight spray bar not easily bent (and I've whacked it pretty good on curbs), and the angle is pre-set. Just screw the tips in and go. -

I grew up in a 3 girl, 1 boy family (the boy was me!). It was ok....but it'd have been nice to have a brother to play with. My sister who is closest to me in age (older) was kind of my brother. We still joke about her being my brother Theresa.

The X-Jet debate
Mike Williamson replied to PressurePros's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
With the right tip, I can shoot just as high, or higher, as you can with the Xjet. I don't worry about running out of mix, I keep mine in a 65 gallon tank on the trailer, and I know roughly what I'll use for each job, so it's a simple matter of making sure there's enough in the tank to get the job done! I can promise you that once you do away with the hand cart/drum/xjet setup and can just pull your hose off the reel and start spraying, you'll NEVER want to go back! I just did a house today that was VERY wooded...on one side, I had about 5' of clearance between heavy woods and the house...no way I would have been able to drag a handcart back there, and the house was quite long (about 60') on that side...very soft ground covered with decomposing leaves, limbs, bushes, etc. It was a pain in a neck as it was, just having to drag the pressure hose back there. -
Hey! You skipped over my post! FOUL! :lgtear:

I agree completely here...I can be 100% behind our troops, behind what they're doing, and still dislike the President, and/or some or all of what he is doing. Blind patriotism is what has led to dictatorships in the past elsewhere. I'm not saying we're at risk of that here, now, but the fact remains that blind patriotism is just silly. We live in a free country and one of ouir most important rights is our ability to speak out against our leaders if we see the need. Now, to clarify, I don't think Bush is evil, I don't think he's stupid, and I do agree with much of what he's accomplished so far. Some things I don't agree with. We need Reagan back. Any ideas? LOL! I agree, in some cases unions have been able to negotiate better wages for jobs like yours. On the other hand, they have also been able to negotiate artificially high wages for relatively low skilled jobs. Why should a guy standing on an assembly line doing mindless work be making $20.00 or $30.00/hour just because he's in a union? Artificially high wages raises the cost of products, and drives business and businesses to other countries where labor is cheaper. Unions protect incompetence. Union actions have killed major companies. Can you say "Eastern Airlines"?? As far as minimum wage, I've always believed that wages should be based on performance. Even a relatively stupid employer knows that it's better to pay more for good employees than to pay low wages for incompetence. As someone else pointed out, minimum wage wasn't designed to be a living wage, but a starting point. If you are working somewhere and you stay at minimum wage, the likely reason is YOU. You've either picked a "profession" that is very unskilled, or you're one of those employees who does enough to get by...not lousy enough to get fired but not valuable enough to promote. Why should the government force the employer of a person like this to give them a raise? That's just silly.

Help Choosing A Surface Cleaner
Mike Williamson replied to TNT Pressure Washing's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
As with everything else, you get what you pay for. Why do we complain when our customers hire lowballers, but then we go and buy cheap equipment for the sake of saving a few bucks? www.pressuretek.com He sells the Whisper Wash line, which is top quality. I own two Big Guys, and have had no problems out of either. -

How long till the US gets into the fray....
Mike Williamson replied to Beth n Rod's question in The Club House
Dunno? What do YOU think? All I have are lying and deceptive news sources. For all I know, there isn't really a Hezbollah or Lebanon! -
We were very blessed in that area...Michael slept through the night just about every night after the first week or two. For the first couple weeks he'd wake up every 2-3 hours for feeding, but after that, he was good for 6-7 hours!

Gas prices are where they've been for quite a while now, with a bit of fluctuation up and down. I think that's somewhat a factor, but not a large one. You notice you don't have the screaming and yelling about $3.00+ gas prices now like you did a year or more ago. People are used to it...they've adapted, for the most part. The soft housing market also has something to do with it. I think it is more the economy in general, and people's uncertainty about how things will go in the next year or so that keep them from spending on unnecessary things (and yes, PW is necessary, but it can also wait, whereas a leaky roof or broken AC can't)

Ditto that! The others I know about are: PWNA Power Wash Institute The Cleaner Network PressureNet.net Cleaning Talk Delco Power Wash Network The Deck Guide There are others for window cleaning and deck restoration, but I'm not sure what they are anymore.

Wow! She's beautiful!! I can say this, as a new Dad at 38...I believe we appreciate what wehave much more and much more deeply than we would have if we'd started a family 15 years ago.

Am I using the surface cleaner the right way ?
Mike Williamson replied to Tom DeFrancesco's question in Residential Pressure Washing
A water broom is a poor man's surface cleaner (and a lousy one at that). It CAN , with the right tips, be used to rinse a driveway or a roof, but not sure why you'd want to. -
Am I using the surface cleaner the right way ?
Mike Williamson replied to Tom DeFrancesco's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Yep, have a spare on the trailer now. This was one of the first times I used the new trailer, and hadn't fully prepared for everything. As far as concrete, I've never had a problem with residential, and I use 3000psi or so. Of course, the stuff I'm cleaning is anywhere from 2-3 year old up to 30 and 40 years old.
