Sounds like a good law. I never understood not allowing cops from other areas to carry weapons...I was nearly arrested in NJ for having a .22 rifle in the car (hey, I was a dumb 18yo kid who'd never been to NJ, and I wanted SOME sort of protection in the hotel room!) The officer in whose car I sat for an hour on my first wedding anniversary just off the NJ turnpike told me that he wasn't even allowed to carry his weapon in NY (this was in 1989). He was amazed when I told him how easy it was to buy a gun in FL (at that time there was no background check, and I don't believe there was a waiting period). They ran the serial # on the rifle, and let me go (keeping the rifle, of course). They told me I could pick the rifle up at the station on the way back home (we were headed to NH) How did he find out I had a rifle in the car? I, being a stupid 18yo kid, figured that since I had no gun rack in the car, I'd keep the rifle in the rear window, so no one could claim I was trying to conceal a weapon. I figured hey, if you can carry a rifle on a gun rack in the rear window of a pickup, it'd be ok to keep it in the rear window of the car... He said that if I'd been pulled over by the NJ state patrol on the turnpike, I'd have been on my face on the pavement in handcuffs, and WOULD have spent the weekend in jail. I haven't been back to NJ since... :)

Yes, I too would be interested in hearing how this works (not denying you have one, just curious what type it is). The way I understand it is that some states have reciprocity laws with other states, and some don't. I may have a CC permit in FL, but that doesn't mean I can carry in CA, but I may be able to carry in GA or AL.

A gun is a gun, neither good nor evil. Owning it won't bring me bad luck or bad karma or whatever you want to call it. Maybe the person who yelled at me was just being as much a jerk as I was being earlier? I tend to go with that explanation than with believing some force made someone yell at me because I yelled at someone else.... I own several guns, nothing fancy...a couple shotguns (12g and 20g) a matched pair of .38 and .22 revolvers, and a S&W SP101 .357 They all have their purposes, though thank God I've never needed any of them except the 20g snake gun. I have considered recently going with a Glock .40 and a CC permit, simply because I now have a very small, defenseless person who I sometimes carry around with me. That, and I'm looking at the possibility of more commercial night work, and it's be nice to have some sort of defence other than 3000psi.

Window Streaks ever an issue?
Mike Williamson replied to bforbis's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I believe that to be a common ingredient in quality house wash soaps. That's what's in Citracleen, and I haven't found anything to top it yet. -
Not for me. I've tried the patch and the gum...neither made any difference at all in my urge for a smoke. Even chewing/dipping didn't make a difference..for me, it isn't so much the nicotine, it is the habitual, enjoyment part. The nicotine is out of your system in 72 hours. From there on out, it's a psychological battle. Thanks, and good luck!!!

You're on. My Birthday is the 14th, and I was thinking today of giving myself a present. I've tried to quit for my wife, was going to quit for the baby the weekend we brought him home, etc etc...but I realized it is something I have to do for me. That'll be a nice couple of days of no smoking to get me jump started into it. I rarely smoke on the weekends anyways.... Consider me your accountability partner, and I'll do likewise.

It doesn't work well for just about anyone...ONE hit of nicotine into your system awakes that nasty beast.

Window Streaks ever an issue?

What product are you using for the sodium metasilicate? -
That's exactly how I work it...typcially they want a general clean, and don't care about small things like a bit of paint spatter.
-
Good job! Now just STAY quit. Always remember, all it takes is ONE puff and you're back.....

The worst I've ever done was drive off without the trailer...I had dropped it during a job to run to the store. Came back, backed up to it and got back to work...forgot to hook it up. Rolled everything up, got paid, and started driving off without the trailer...feeling a bit silly.

In the right hands, yes. I can get one open with a hammer in less than 2 seconds. Lowes makes a cheap metal bolt cutter that will open them in 2 seconds too.

Machine Covers
Mike Williamson replied to Jim Carroll's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Do you pull the trailer with the cover on, or do you remove it beforehand? I like the idea of covering the entire trailer for storage, at least until I find some indoor storage, but I also like the idea that people can see what I'm pulling while I'm travelling to the job. -

Great idea! Now that I'm setting up an open trailer, that's something I've been concerned about. I've thought about having a cover made, but didn't think about grill covers! -
I know I'm not celeste, but here's two of ours.

Downstreaming is where you draw chemicals into the pressure line after the pump. Upstreaming is where you draw chemicals into the feed line before the pump. Not recommended for most chemicals, since they can damage the pump. The Xjet is basically a fancy downstreamer with a much higher draw rate that goes on the end of the lance.
-
Sounds like you're referring to a downstream injector. Some are adjustable, and some aren't. If it's adjustable, the part where the hose that goes into the chem bucket connects to turns. If not, you can regulate it by the mix in the bucket you're drawing from. Just mix your chems weaker or stronger as needed. Some guys use the Xjet, which is a useful tool, but not nearly as easy to use an a downstreamer.

I suppose you could, but you only use between 1/2 and 1 gallon/5gallons of wash mix. The drum kit comes in a sort of powdered form, with a 1 gallon jug of liquid...For me, at least, it would be much more of a pain to weigh out all that stuff into 11 portions and mix 5 gallons at a time.

Maybe I misunderstood what you were referring to...I assume now that an air diaphragm pump is a different animal that a typical shurflo?

2 Phase Power Wash ~ Sub Divisions
Mike Williamson replied to newlook's question in Residential Pressure Washing
We don't have the problem here like you do in some areas of CA with dust/dirt from construction, but I'm sure I can find some angle to implement your ideas! -

Thanks, Carlos!!! -
Come on guys! 273 views, and only 19 posts???? $20.00 is nothing to most of us. Give back a little!

I tried the flojet route...the one I got (4.5gpm) sucked. Shurflo rules.

The condo work I'm talking about is just about all flatwork...either driveways or sidewalks, a few roof/gutter cleanings, and the one we're doing now is a two-week job doing all the concrete parking areas for a 93 unit condo complex...a LOT of concrete. Nothing exciting, just steady relatively decent money.
-
It isn't so much that they're any harder, but they're hard to sell, at least here. I agree, if I could trade residential for 100% apartments/condos, I'd do it too...but the problem is that work comes and goes, and I may go months without a large condo job...then there's the past 5 months, where I've done nothing BUT condos...I think I've washed two houses since August.
