Disneyland is in So. Cal, Disney World is right here in FL! Disneyland isn't but a good day's drive from Scott, and now that they've added the California Adventure part of it, it's even better. Scott: When was the last time you were there? Have you ridden "Soarin'"?? I absolutely LOVE that ride.

The X-Jet debate
Mike Williamson replied to PressurePros's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
The primary difference is draw ratio. The Xjet draws a steady 2.5gpm. From what I understand, the imitators like the cat model, or the Vjet that espec sells, don't even come close. Another major difference is cost...but you get what you pay for. -
Unloader partially bypassing
Mike Williamson replied to Mike Williamson's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I bypassed the coil/flow switch, running a 10' whip straight from the unloader block to a gun with a 6.5 tip...worked great. Ran it for quite a while under full pressure and no problems. No bypassing at all with the gun/hose open. It appears the problem is either in the flow switch or the burner coil. -
Unloader partially bypassing
Mike Williamson replied to Mike Williamson's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Nope, not pulling air. I hooked up the water supply hose directly from the spigot to the pump inlet, and there are no leaks with it under pressure. Fired it up, and it did just fine for a couple minutes. Shut it down and checked the oil (I'd just changed the oil), topped it off and fired it up again. Lousy pressure. Damn I'm stumped. :lgbonk: -
The whirl-away and the whisperwash classic look very similar, but that's where the similarity ends! I LOVE my WW big guy. MUCH better than the Steel Eagle. I'd gladly pay more for a big guy, even if they were discounting the SE.

What's you vehicle of choice...and why?
Mike Williamson replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
The newer Dodge diesel is surprisingly quiet...I think they came out with that in 03 or 04. I've never noticed a smell. And it sure is nice to pull up to a truck stop and fill the tank in about 2 minutes. :) -
The only one right for me was the first one...

To Bleach Or Not To Bleach???
Mike Williamson replied to jgoral76's question in Residential Pressure Washing
You gotta realize, some of these guys are from MICHIGAN! It gets so dang cold and nasty there that humans can barely survive. Algae has no chance! If you have algae on the house, just wait for winter...it'll die. :lgcold: Thank GOD for Florida and year-round work!!! -
To Bleach Or Not To Bleach???
Mike Williamson replied to jgoral76's question in Residential Pressure Washing
In some places, mold/algae just doesn't grow, so there's no need for chlorine. Most places, though, get at least some mold growth. For you and I, you won't find a house without at least a little mold. It's just too wet and warm down here in the south for it to be otherwise. -
Some people just aren't worth working for...there's too much work out there to dicker around with a PITA know-it-all who won't be happy no matter what you do.

I have a Generac that I picked up rebuilt from Home Depot last year. It's definitely top of the line, but works well. 5k constant, has wheels on one side and a handle on the other for easy moving. I believe they run around $650.00 new at Home Depot. It's the "Wheelhouse" model. For ocassional use, I wouldn't spend a large amount of money.

I didn't get nearly the results with Zap that I do with Gutter Shock. Very little to no brushing, with Zap I had to brush quite a bit.

Technique and Pricing Help Needed
Mike Williamson replied to Lou Beach's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Good luck! With the concrete foundation, I've found that sometimes housewash doesn't work well with the algae. I keep a pump up sprayer with 50/50 chlorine/water and will use that to spray the foundation while the house is dwelling. Works like a charm. -
Sorry, I just know that that's how I used to try to change the oil, and it DID take forever, until I figured out it was smart to heat the oil up a bit. I shoulda figured out that as long as you've been around, you'd probably already figured that one out! :)

Run the machine for a minute before changing the oil and it should drain faster.

Best additive or method to prevent window streaking?
Mike Williamson replied to Lou Beach's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Exactly! I don't use the rinse aid for every application. I typically only use it when the homeowner has expressed concern over the windows, or when I'm using well water. Normally with city water, the windows don't spot up much at all, but some customers are more picky than others. I always use it with well water, because water is much harder and windows spot pretty bad without it. I just felt it unfair to make it seem like Steve was selling a product that was essentially snake oil..It isn't. If it were, I wouldn't waste my money (though it really is pennies per house). -
Best additive or method to prevent window streaking?
Mike Williamson replied to Lou Beach's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Agreed. Try calling espec and say "Umm...I used emulsifier plus and it did such and such to this guy's siding...what do I do?" and see what they tell you. LOL. -
We're fine here...a little rain, winds around 25-30mph, nothing we don't see on a rainy march afternoon.

Best additive or method to prevent window streaking?
Mike Williamson replied to Lou Beach's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I've noticed a big difference in how the windows dry when I use the rinse-aid, or when I've used other over-the-counter rinse aids like Jet-Dry. Have you ever used Steve's rinse aid? -
No, I was thinking further south...like Cuba. ;) Here's the 2005 name list. There are names for R and T, but none for Q, U, X, Y, or Z. That's 21 names, with 22 starting the Greek alphabet. Maybe they couldn't come up with 6 names starting with Q, U, X, Y, or Z that they liked. Arlene Bret Cindy Dennis Emily Franklin Gert Harvey Irene Jose Katrina Lee Maria Nate Ophelia Philippe Rita Stan Tammy Vince Wilma
-
Wilma is also a record breaker, with the lowest barometric pressure since they have kept records. Let's hope she keeps to the south.

Improving Gas Mileage & Saving Money
Mike Williamson replied to Mike's topic in Business Topics & Tips
I've noticed the same thing with the new Dodge...they recommend mid-grade, and I have noticess close to a 2mpg increase using it. More than enough to justify the increased cost. -
Nope, according to all the experts, sleeping on the back is a must. Doing away with sleeping on the stomach has shown to cut the incidence of SIDS by 50%. There shouldn't be anything in the crib/bassinet that can cover the baby's head/face, or that they can get their face up against. This keeps a fresh flow of oxygen to their face. The problem is that if a baby's face gets covered, they can have a problem arousing themselves enough to move their head and can eventually stop breathing. Once a baby is a week or so old, his/her "thermostat" is capable of maintaining body temperature, and there's really no need for a blanket in the crib/bassinet. Just a warm pair of PJs and a nice firm flat place to sleep is all you need. http://www.nichd.nih.gov/sids/reduce_infant_risk.htm The internet is a GREAT source of information when you have questions about anything... And yes, I have found that it IS completely normal to check the baby 10 or more times/day to be sure he's breathing, even nudge him a bit to make sure he moves.

Now that's just too funny. We adopted our son 5 weeks ago (born 9/13). It's been great! One thing we've found that works as far as sleep is to switch off...I'll give my wife at least a couple nights/week (she's home for 12 weeks) where I keep him with me in the other room, so she can sleep the night. The advice about keeping something over him if he's a boy when you're changing him is dead on...For as small at that thing is, it sure shoots a good ways! The other thing is to make sure he/she is done pooping before you change the diaper...If you hear/smell him/her taking care of business, give it a few minutes...it'll save a bit of clean up during the changing...He's pretty good at shooting that stuff a good ways too, especially when you have his rear end up in the air wiping him down. :lgbugeyes Take LOTS of pics! I bet we've taken a few thousand in the last 5 weeks. Oh, and I'm sure they'll tell you this, but THEY SLEEP ON THEIR BACK!!! That's a biggie...Sleeping on the stomach is a huge no-no.
