  1. Check this out! The video I shot at the Rodeo made the local Channel 4 News. A freind of mine from Dallas called to tell me it was on at 9. I just watched it on the 10 O'clock news. How cool is that? Here is the link to it on my youtube channel.

Oh, my name must be hard to read on the teleprompter. She called me Mike Hinderliffer. Haha!!!

  2. Thanks to both sides for turning my attempt to thank another contractor who helped me when I needed it into a juvenile argument.

Everyone should be ashamed of themselves.

It is too bad indeed that the BBS's have become cluttered with carefully crafted innuendo's and accusations that lead the reader to believe something that is definitely not true.. Remain silent about the false claims too long and people start to believe they may be true. I myself have been a victim of this activity and find it extremely unprofessional and disheartening. Make a post to protect your integrity and prove the claim false and they move to a new attack and even take it to new venue, BBS, and begins the attacks all over again. What you have to understand is the more attention these groups receive the more they build their names and reputation by belittling and downing others. There are those that love to create the drama because it keep people coming back but unfortunately the drama as always overshadows and the opportunity for education is lost. I for one am extremely glad to see administrators of the good BB's move to improve the professionalism of our industry by stopping those that make attacks on others BBS's that would not be allowed on their BBS's from posting on their board.

Notice I have not mentioned names. It is for a reason. It is time to move on and continue to protect the integrity of our industry. I sure the drama centers will continue to draw the drama crowed which I will not be a part. I hope that they will eventually see how it hurts us all and the changes will be made to move away from it.

It is too bad that your thank you to Doug was sidetracked. I am sure he was helpful.

I will also state that I have had a banner ad on this site for several years and I have never received any preferential treatment as I am sure no other advertiser here has either.

  3. At the Houston Envirmental Enforcement meeting this past July, Sargent Michael Walsh expained why enforcement became so aggressive toward power washing. I strongly recommend watching these four video's if you want to know first hand. At the end of the video's I have also added the complete playlist for all the video on youtube to see the meeting in it's entirety.

  4. An Italian Mother

Mrs. Rosa comes to visit her son, Anthony, for dinner. He lives with a female roommate, Maria.

During the course of the meal, his mother couldn't help but notice how pretty Anthony's roommate is.

Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between Anthony and his roommate than met the eye.

Reading his mom's thoughts, Anthony volunteered, "I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you, Maria and I are just roommates.''

About a week later, Maria came to Anthony saying, "Ever since your mother came to dinner, I've been unable to find the silver sugar bowl. You don't suppose she took it, do you?"

"Well, I doubt it, but I'll email her, just to be sure." So he sat down and wrote an email:

    Dear mama,

I'm not saying that you "did" take the sugar bowl from my house; I'm not saying that you "did not" take it. But the fact remains that it has been missing ever since you were here for dinner.

    Love, Anthony

Several days later, Anthony received a response email from his Mama which read:

    Dear son,

I'm not saying that you "do" sleep with Maria, and I'm not saying that you "do not" sleep with her. But the fact remains that if she was sleeping in her OWN bed, she would have found the sugar bowl by now.

    Love, Mama

Moral: Never lie to your mama…

  5. Maintenance Tip: Dirty air filters -- An air filter that is clogged with dirt, dust and bugs chokes off the air and creates a "rich" mixture -- too much gas being burned for the amount of air, which wastes gas and causes the engine to lose power. Replacing a clogged air filter can improve gas mileage by as much as 10 percent, saving about 20 cents a gallon.

  6. PWNA Update

    March 2010

    From Dan Galvin, President

PWNA is increasing efforts to provide further educational opportunities and promote the Association to a broader base of contractors in 2010 by participating in a series of National Cleaning Expos being held across the USA. At the inaugural event, February 19 & 20 in New Orleans, the PWNA was represented by our Executive Director, Mike Hilborn (Roof to Deck Restoration), and fellow Board Members Daryl Mirza (Facilitec) and Michael Hinderliter (Steamaway).

More than 50 industry representatives, some of whom were current PWNA members, attended this event. While further education is the main objective of the Expos, they are also turning out to be great for membership recruitment as well! We are pleased to welcome 11 new PWNA members who joined after participating in the program!

The National Cleaning Expos are co-sponsored by PWNA and Power Wash Institute (***) and are comprised of a number of informative and interactive round table discussions. While a series of power washing "Boot Camps" are offered as additional learning opportunities, the main focus of the event is more about building your business.

At the February event, for example, a representative from City of New Orleans gave an excellent presentation on how to secure city contracts. Other speakers addressed the all-important issue of having a business plan, building your business by having written processes and procedures, and implementing internal organization systems. The underlying theme of all of these business-building workshops is that we all have to be active in our business in order to run them profitably and effectively.

For the PWNA Boot Camps - which are essentially a condensed version of the full-day programs taught at the annual PWNA convention - Mike Hinderliter tackled the topic of truck/fleet washing and Mike Hilborn taught wood restoration.

Hilborn reports that he spoke with several people who attended the February Expo and many said it was the best round table they had ever been to. Attendees appreciated the fact that it was more business focused and that the Boot Camps were optional, allowing delegates to opt out if the topic had no relation to their specific business focus.

In total, PWNA's participation in the various 2010 National Cleaning Expo Round Table will result in the delivery of over 18 intense training educational programs over the next few months. The round tables will provide a platform to help us reduce mistakes and pitfalls when starting up a new service, showcase equipment and products, introduce how to perform various services, as well as provide tips and tricks on marketing, payroll, managing financials and how to keep your business running. If you want to grow your business in 2010 and beyond you can't afford to miss the education you will receive.

The next National Cleaning Expo will be held in Atlanta at Sun Brite Supply, March 19th and 20th.
