  1. Woodzotic is almost black

Hey Rick, is that for select clear, or knotty grade? I am getting pricing on 2x6 cedar right now and it is not great quality at all, can't believe lumber yards selling almost solid Yellow sapwood , western "RED" cedar , nearly no heartwood at all. Alot of people I talk with up here believe that the good cedar goes south and we get the leftovers. The grass is greener ( cedar is redder) on the other side syndrome :)
  2. Woodzotic is almost black

I think I will have to spend the extra $$$ and have some woodrich whg shipped up here. I can't find anyone in Canada that sells any of the products recommended by Beth, thx to all who replied, if anyone knows of a Canadian supplier who has ready seal, woodrich, woodtux, armstrong clarke, or twp please let me know. Thx again for all the replies.
  3. Woodzotic is almost black

Thx Beth. I actually thought I was pretty calm in my post, I am not going to redo the ipe as I stated earlier it looks ok (darker than expected but ok), the cedar is my problem, I have invested to much time and money in this deck (which BTW I built and maintain totally by myself),to just CHILL for yet another year because it is just stain. Dan,If you want to refund my money and come restrip and refinish my deck for me for free then Chill I will, otherwise I will ask the questions I asked earlier which were, what can I use in unison with woodzotic? Beth was kind enough to reply and all was well then along came your (DAN)helpful (not) reply of CHILL. The deck is 4 levels and 450 sqf of ipe, plus another 440 sqf of cedar surrounding the pool. So Dan maybe you can make some suggestions for a finish for the cedar around pool. While I wait for your reply, I will Chill and hopefully find a good finish available here in southwestern Ontario. I would like to order woodrich but UPS are thieves and add around 50$ to the shipping fee for broker costs. Any opinions on Messmers for the cedar? How about deckscapes from sherwin williams? Being in Canada limits the finishes we have available. One side note, The restore-a-deck A&B are great, brought the deck back in no time. Woodzotic applied well and soaked right in. Just to chocolate brown, black for cedar.

Thx for the extremely fast reply. and help with contact info.
  5. Woodzotic is almost black

Thx Beth, I have only sealed the ipe and can handle the chocolate browny for as you say 10 months(probably less), but I need to seal the cedar and want it reddy gold ,so can woodtux or woodrich be applied to cedar? Please note that the cedar is right up against the ipe so there may be some (minimal) overlap of cedar stain onto ipe woodzotic. BTW I was not contacted, and notice that restore-a- forum is now unavailable to post my complaints. Should I add a second coat of woodzotic to the ipe or just go with the 1 coat. I have 3.5-4 gallons left still as I will not be applying it to my cedar decks due to blackish tint. My ultimate desire is to have cedar and ipe deck colors look like they do in the first pic after cleaning and brightening deck.
  6. I purchased 5 gallons of woodzotic last summer and due to delays in delivery before winter I was unable to start staining deck til this week. I have an ipe deck surrounded with WRC border. My last finish was penofin and it really showed the difference in the cedar and ipe. I started to stain deck on tuesday and noticed the stain was dark, but did not look bad on ipe, problem was as I put it on cedar the tint was so dark it made the cedar look almost black. My question is this, what can I use to finish the cedar with that will not cause grief with the woodzotic application if there is any overlapping? I read on here that wood tux brown sugar and red cedar mixed is almost an exact match for woodzotic, can the woodtux be applied to the cedar to give it a golden red tint, and also can a second coat of woodtux be applied ontop of the woodzotic on the ipe? I really don't want to restrip ipe but would like to get a more red tint in it as the woodzotic made it dark brown. Here are 4 pics, 1 after restore-a-deck a and b, 1 after woodzotic and a closeup of cedar with woodzotic on it, and finally the stain in white container. Any help would be appreciated.
