I just bought a pair of waterproof, leather work boots and I wanted to get some feed back on wha,t if any, kind of protective wax some of you might reccomend to increase boot life. I've always used rubber boots up till now, but wanted to try somthing different.

Pumps, which do you use most?
CCPC replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I use a 3 gpm shurflo primarily for roof applications and a 1.8 gpm shurflo for concrete and wood applicatfions. Its hard to believe somthing so small can be such a work horse. I run those things to death and they just keep on going. -
I'm not really into the Lord of Rings Trilogy, but my step daughter is obsessed with it. She has just about every book, dvd, action figure and souvenir that has ever been released. We'll probably pick that one up for a Christmas gift(if she does'nt buy it first).

With overspray the most important area, in my view, is using caution with cars and windows. It's very easy for just a small breeze to catch your house wash mix and sling against the niegbors house. I've actually went as far as to knock on the neigbors door and ask them if I could rinse there windows or car if I have any suspcion that they caght some spray drift. As we all know, it only takes a couple of minutes of drying to etch glass.

I also had a bad experience with them myself. They sent me the wrong 1.50 plastic tip on a chem sprayer I ordered and they wanted me to send it back to them so they could send me the right one. I asked the "phone Girl" if they could just send me the right tip without me spending my money and my time to send them back their 1.50 tip. The owner jumped on the phone, told me who he was (as though I was supposed to be impressed) and rudly requested a yes or no ansewer to shipping the 1.50 tip back to them. At that point, I was a little pissed off (after receiving the worst treatment that I have ever had as a paying customer)and told him no, and he procedded to tell me that they would remember that. I have never, ever in my life been treated so poorly as a paying customer. Somebody has gotten a little to big for their breeches. Need not forget who pays your bills.

Sorry, but wrong. There's a lot more to quality inteligent writing then spellcheck.
-
Ditto on some of the other reasons, but another reason why my be that some people either can't type, or they may be lacking in quality writing skills and/or articulating there thoughts on paper. I for one can type, and I also post somewhat frequently, but happen to be a horrible wriiter and have always had a difficult time expressing or conveying my thoughts through writing. therefore, if I know that my post will take more than just a simple explanation than I don't even bother adding my 2 cents. P.S. When I took my English Comp classes in college, it would take me hours to write papers that others could bang out in there sleep. Also, knowing how to type does'nt do you much good if it takes you forever to figure out what to write.

"To underestimate or understate (a cost) deliberately:" (or somtimes not deliberately) it has nothing to do with how their rates compared to mine it has to do with their sales approach and how it affects their own bottom line. An example would be a 'lowballer" is giving an estimate on a exterior house wash. He estimates that IDEALY he would like to quote $200 for the house wash to cover his expenses etc. and make an average profit, but instead he quotes $125. This can be due to many other reasons than just trying to out bid the competition, some of which are listed above: lack of confidence in their sales ability or skills, fear of lossing the job, stupidity, slow times, future job prospects, etc. The point is, it has more to do with lowballing thier own profit margins, not mine. I've lowballed myself on an occasion or two when things were slow. Better to make a little somthing to keep the business runing than to sit at home and twiddle my thumbs.
-
If you read my definition carfully it reads: "They sell quantity over quality" I did'nt say that all lowballers do poor quality work. I said, it seems that they sell there services based on offering the cheapest price. .

Now I have seen EVERYTHING. Check THIS service out!

some advantages to that business over pressure cleaning are: a very low startup cost; less liability( let's face it, Its hard to mess up picking up poop); easier to recruit and train new poop technicans. Some companies also sell pet supplies as an added service, pet food and supplies delivered to your front door. -

Actually, I was tossing around that idea of starting a pooper scooper business a couple of years ago before I got into the pressure washing biz. They actually have bbs forums on scooping poop. I considered that business idea because there was no one in the Jacksonville area that offered that service but I was sure there would be a demand for it if I marketed the idea correctly. since then, there have been a few pooper scooper business that have popped up. The reason why I never went through with idea was because I did'nt like the idea that I would have to have a huge client base and travel to 25 homes a day to make a decent living where as with pressure washing I can do one big job a day and make the same amount of money. www.pooperscooper.com -
I've had chlorine in my shurflo pumps from sun up to sundown on occasion and they still work just as good as they did when I first purchased them. Then again I,ve only had them for 3 or 4 months.
-
I use 10.5% also. I don't think I have ever scene 12 or 15% sold in this area.
-
A lowballer is a person who sells quantity over quality, end of story. There are a ton of pressure washers in this area and I have yet to see one that "lowballs" without substituting quality in some way. low-ball or low·ball (lbôl) tr.v. Slang low-·balled, low-·bal·ling, low-·balls To underestimate or understate (a cost) deliberately: “He often took illegal cash payments from developers in return for... low-balling the cost of construction and renovation work” (Boston Globe).

Why does'nt she complain to the landlord and have him fix the problem? She should not have to spend here time and money to fix a problem that existed before she moved in. I would demand that the landlord fix the problem or move out. You can break a lease if the leaser is'nt living up to their end of contract.

I might have to try the Purple Pooper. It would be nice to find somthing that works that can be bought down the street.
-
I saw an info-mercial on the Little Giant and really liked what I saw. I think I might have to invest in one when the ladders I have now ware out.
-
the one I tried was in a white jug with a red label, if I remeber correctly.

I use that approach with alot of my services. One example would be driveway cleaning. My base price for driveways only includes pressure washing and chlorine application. For brightening, or certain stain removal, I offer it as an upsale. I do this because none of the other contractors around here do brightening or even atempt to remove rust stains etc. so i offer it as an upsale to help define exactly what it is there getting for there money. A simple marketing trick.

I tried the krud kutter method and could'nt get good results even at full strength.
-
It seems a bit steep, but may have to do with supply and demand in your area. I was paying .79 per gallon, but it recently went up to .95 per g. I believe there was some sort of shortage which caused the price to go up here. I buy mine from Ace right down the street at which I pull around back and fill my tanks directly.

Don't you hate when people want to critique your work before you finish the job? I don't know how many times I'll be in the middle of cleaning a driveway and after the pressure cleaning portion and before the chemical application I here from behind me: "I guess you could'nt get those stains up, huh". Of course I'm thinking: Did you see me knocking on the door and presenting you with an recipt, then please, by all means, let me finish before you critique my work. Or the famous: "These windows are double paned, I don't think your supposed to use any pressure on them"... "Really, would you, "The Proffesional", who does this everyday, like to show me how it's done?" "Your not going to kill my plants are you?" ..."Yes ma'am, only a few though, but your house is going to look great!". "I have a pressure washer, but lately I just hav'nt had the time"... This one is usually the man of the house just trying save a little face because he feels a little guilty for not doing it himself. Feel free to join in. This is by no means an attempt to bash customers, but simply a fun way to share some common one liners.

I believe Mike is trying to start a thread of members and their locations to provide a one stop look up for pressure washers in a certain area vs. looking through an endless amount of threads to hopfully stumble upon someone in your area.
