  3. Sprayers

I have used the x-jet to do roofs and I must say it does not hold a candle to a shurflo setup. My setup is about the same as what Scott described. I have a 3gpm shurflo which is mounted on my trailer and attached to a trolling marine battery. I have 200' of 3/8" polybraid chem tubing rolled up on a cheap plastic hose reel which you can buy at walmart for 15 bucks. I don't use the connections on the real I just leave a pigtail which I have a stainless steal QC ready to connect to my pump. I use pvc wands with ball valves fitted on the ends and QC on both ends (one for the connection to the hose and one for attaching tips). I use a regualr black chem tip for the majority of my applications. I pull from a 100g tank that I specificly use for roof application. I use 10.5% pool chlorine usually dilluted to about 5%. I would never be able to get away with 30g tank. Many of the houses I do are 3,000 to 4,000sq ft and I can easily go through 60 to 70g. of mix on an especialy bad roof.
  4. ladders

Henry, what are you using the 40' ladder for, houses or buildings? I've never even seen a house around here where a ladder even close to that tall would be needed. Most houses around here are regular ranch style homes which usually don't exceed two stories.
  5. Mobile Homes

Well said Mike. That's been my experience around here as well. Come to thank of it, I've never done one in a trailer park.

It really depends on what kind of work your doing (Commercial, Residential etc. ) and what part of the country you live in. There are huge differences in structural and archeticual design from one part of the country to another. I do mainly Residential work and have never needed (probably a little lucky) an extension ladder taller than my 20'.

  9. Mobile Homes

Andy is right, in most cases mobile home communites are not great places to look for potential jobs. Allthough, I have done quite a few, including the one I did today. First off, not all manufactured homes are neccesarily small its more of the simple rectangular shape and the, usually, vinyle exterior that makes them easy to clean. Celeste, when you said that they don't have sqaute for water, what did you mean by that? Did you mean then don't have very good access to water, or that the water pressure is crap. The reason I ask is it seems that frequently, includeing today, I have problems with inadaquete water pressure and gpm to run my machine. Just curious if this is a coincidence, or a common desise for mobile homes.
  10. How do you know if you have a bad unloader? What are the symptoms?
  11. X-Jet Hose?

I bought 50' from espec and it was somwhat stiff. Then, I bought 300' from pressuretek and it was the blueish green very flexiable kind. just bought another 25' from pressuretek and it was whitish yellow colered and it seems a bit stiff but I have not used it yet. I guess if you don't mind buying a lot of extra you can get the good stuff from Pressuretek.

  13. I was hoping someone who has both the X-jet and the M-5 can tell me if one can shoot chemical further than the other. I ask because I have the M-5, but I am certain it dosent reach 30 to 40' when its drawing chem. I was curious if anybody has tested both to find that one reachs further than the other.
  14. M-5 vs. X-Jet Original

Thanks for the responces guys. Justme, I am with you on the downsteaming chem flingers, I believe they shoot further as well but its all for nothing if you can't apply it strong enough to do the job. I am thinking about buying the original also and using it for the high reaching areas and use my m-5 for the low areas.
  15. pine needles in pool screen

What a nightmare! That was me who posted the thread that you were refering to. How long did it take you to clear that one? I would have never thought that you could use a rotary nozzle without either blowing the screen out from sheer force or eating it up with pressure, but if you say it works without damage I may have to expeirement. I encounter those pretty regularly and cringe everytime I see one like that. I guess you have to take the difficult as well as the gravy. So far, those are things that I hate to do the most on residential jobs.
  16. XJets

I absolutely love it. I have only had it for a few months and besides my surface cleaner it is the most usefull accessory that I have purchased thus far. Even though the set up time takes a little longer I save far more time by being able to apply chem twice as fast, and because of the abilty to use chems at stronger concentration, the dwell time has been cut in half as well. I will say, it does take a little getting used to.
  17. XJets

pushing products?..... no Discounts?..........no. I mention deals on products to other contractors to help them. I have no secret agenda. As a matter a fact, I bought my X Jet from Beth.
  18. Hurricanes are killing me

These hurricanes are really putting a hurting on my business. I have only been in business for a year and a few months and this summer things were just starting to come together then Francis showed up and ever since the phones have been dead. Finally last week the phone started to ring again and now Jean's projected path has its eye on use and the phone stopped ringing again. I'm just about fed up with the whole thing. I have bills to pay and the way things are going if we get any substatial effects from this storm (hurricane jean) it might be just enough to put me out of business. Maybe I'll go buy a chain saw and become a tree guy or yard pick up service. Thats whos making the money around here. Anyone else in Florida seeing the kind of drought in work that I have been experienceing? The problem is that every time one storm comes through there is another one right behind it, so people are afraid to have anything cleaned because they think it will just get messed up again. maybe if I can just hang on till the end of hurricane season everybody will finally decide to have there homes serviced. Anyway, just needed to vent my frustration. I'm sure there are plenty of other people in this state that have been much more effected than I have, so I'll stop whining.
  19. Dale, is your shurflo chem source on your rig or on a cart? the reason I ask is because 100ft doesnt seem like it would be enough chem line to reach all areas of the roof on some houses unless you were toting a cart around the perimeter of the house.
  20. XJets

the M-5 is priced at $124.00 and the original is priced at $105.00. both are adver. right on pressuretek's homepage.
  21. XJets

www.pressuretek.com has them for 124.00 which is the cheapest I have seen them.
  22. Hurricane Frances

Well, My power is finally back on, and my yard is a wreck, but at least we're still here. We had tree limb punch a nice size whole in our roof, but other than that it was just a long sleepless night. I have never experienced a hurricane before and after that I know I never will, at least in my house which is on the St. Johns River and surrounded by trees. We only had 40 to 50 mile an hour winds with gusts up to 60 to 70 and Frances brougth down dozens of trees and tossed boats and docks around like childrens toys. If we ever have a direct hit here I will most definetely be some where else. With what we got from this storm being on the out skirts of its wrath. My thoughts and prayers go out to those of you in Central Florida of which endured the strongest of what this Hurricane had to offer. I,m sure many of my Fellow Floridians are still with out power, but we hope to here from all of you soon.
  23. Hurricane Frances

I agree, I have lived here for 30 years (my whole life) and this was the worst that I have ever seen. I don't exaggerate when I say that it was one of the scarest things that I have experienced. Sunday night (which was when we recived the worst) I did alot of praying. We have many trees around our home and every time we would get a huge gust I would cringe in anticipation of one of the trees crashing through. Thankfully the most damage we recicved was the limb that came through. being next to the river, we got twice the amount of wind as other areas around here. Our power was only out for about 16 hours which was really good compared to others around here who will not be back on line till Monday. This storm, for me, has been somwhat of a humbleing experience and as I stated above, if this is what we got on the out skirts of the storm I really feel for those who took its worst.
  24. Hurricane Frances
