Jim, How are you feeling? My sister had that surgery in '04 she says the scar from it still hurts. -
Cedar Shake Strip
John Doherty replied to John Doherty's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Let me rephrase the question, how about getting them back as close to their natural state as possible, so they can be restained. Remember I don't do any wood and have zero experience with this stuff. Rick, If you haven't heard from the Witherington's give them a call. She may be stalling because she is unsure of a color to go with, I'm sure you can sell her. -
I've seen strange patterns before too. For me they followed the stud lines of the framing. My assumption is the studs or walls in some way effects either the condensation on the home exterior or the temperature in those spots. This either increases or slows down the oxidation in those spots. I say condensation, because when I've seen it it's been early morning and the home is covered in dew except along those spots. In the picture they are verticle lines above the shadows.

Can Someone Tell Me What Happened?
John Doherty replied to Aaron Sullivan's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Aaron I think you've already got the answer, sounds like the uv exposure caused the oxidation. As far as fault goes, who are you going to blame, the sun? We all hate to do jobs where we don't make money, or even lose money, but sometimes you have to take it in the shorts. You really have to paint that side of the house for this guy. The action you take here will define you and your company. -
Again, too far north for me! Please PM me for details!

Sodium Hypochlorite vs Calcium Hypochlorite
John Doherty replied to Sparklean's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Welcome to the board Adam! I would try putting "calcium" in the search window. If you don't find the answer after that, post the question. -
How about an advisory board that selects who the newcomers are that get access to what type of information? You want to know what I use to clean a roof, provide me with an insurance cert. That shows you've made at least that much of a commitment to the industry. You want to know about the business in general, great, you get access to all that info you want. Anything more specific and you need to prove you are at least responsible enough that if you damage someone's property it'll be taken care of.

I just sent mine to a local shop today, call 3-4 local places to get the best price. They beat the price of the online one that's posted.

Roof Cleaning Lead in Bridgewater, NJ
John Doherty posted a topic in Contractor Help Wanted - Job Leads
Again, a bit too far north for me, please PM me if you're in that area. -
It's a double edged sword. In a Super Walmart, you can get a precooked chicken and a can of green beans for about $5. You can feed a family of 4 with that, they won't be stuffed, but they won't be starved either.

State specific business start up requirements.
John Doherty replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Business Topics & Tips
Jim you need insurance for obvious reasons, also in NJ you must be a licensed home improvement contractor, and collect sales tax. -
Wow, great game, awesome result!!

Yes well, I am a winner, I'm happy to accept this tremendous honor, and I hope I don't let you all down. It's only through hard work, determination, clean living, the love of my family, and my faith in God that I was able to persevere, and ultimatly become, 'The Wand Winner'. There are so many people I'd like to thank, I'm not sure where to begin, I'd like to thank the 'Institute' and all it's members, the Brown family who's home is pictured, and also my ex, she ended up with everything I owned, but she did let me keep the camera I took the picture with. I'd like to thank Ron for sponsoring the board and the contest and Russ, for breathing new life there these last few months. Well as for you losers, and you know who you are, what can I say, your pictures stunk. The combination of excellent workmanship, remembering where I stood before and after the job, good lighting, and a steady hand won the day. Better luck next time losers!

I get lots of stuff from Plastic Tanks, Plastic Buckets, Plastic Bottles, Labware, PVC Pipe - United States Plastic Corporation ®. Try searching for 'poly tank'. Tractor suppply has them so do local farm supply places.

Nikro Dual Head
John Doherty replied to One Tough Pressure's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Only problem I ever had was a wire inside one of the heads frayed, was an easy fix. It was my fault, the head cover wasn't secured well enough to the drum so it was bouncung around while driving. Otherwise they were great while I needed them. Very cost effective, more powerful, and could take more abuse than any of the purpose built stuff I've seen. -
Could Use Opinions on Commercial
John Doherty replied to PressurePros's topic in Business Topics & Tips
I don't mind the music at all, but I'm not a big fan of sound on websites either. I think it follows the pace fine, more of a personal pref I guess. I think it lools really good, and seeing it on your site obviously puts it in much better context then the Youtube video. I'd maybe change show piece to showplace, and cap the if in the beginning. All in all I think it's a great addition to your site. -
Carlos, when I lived in Denver I was probably one of the biggest Raiders fans around! Man did I really hate the Broncos!

Giants weren't even playing championship caliber football until week 17. They are a different team than they were all season long. If they play with the focus they've had in the last 4 games, it should at least be an interesting game. If this is Eli finally coming into his own, well it took long enough. I've been saying all season Eli's gotta go, that won't happen until they get rid of Coughlin, but a win in the bowl could change my mind.

New Baby in the house..caption this
John Doherty replied to MMI Enterprises's question in The Club House
Kevin, she's beautiful, congratulations. -
You're giving the general public too much credit. You don't get viewers by saying, 'things are great, film at 11'.

Good for you guys staying positive! We are letting ourselves be talked into a recession. This drives me nuts, are you feeling a recession? Did your business grow last year? GDP is still forcast to grow, just at a slower rate. Let's keep scaring people so they decide to hold on to the $500-$1000 for upkeep of their property for another year. Inflation was higher in May, June, and July of last year, and in Sept & October 05, and in 1991,1990,1989,1988, and 1987. The highest rate was actually in March 1980 @ 14.76 at the beginning of the Reagan Admin, due to the doomed economy from the Carter Admin. I don't believe the hype, but I worry about what effect the hype will have!

Snow Removal, Hot Water Machine, Rocky Mountains
John Doherty replied to APGCINC's topic in Snow Plowing, Deicing and Holiday Lighting
Snow will just absorb the water and make it much heavier with very little in the way of melting or movement. I've messed around with this on flatwork, not a roof, but I think you'd get the same result. -
General Liability Coverage
John Doherty replied to propressurewashing's topic in Business Topics & Tips
Ron you must be thinking of workmans comp, not GL. Regardless if you have no employees or 100, you must must must have GL. Housewash and a bad light fixture or outlet causes a fire? I have nightmares about that! Not having at least GL of $300k for the $6-$700 is just crazy, a million for a hundred or 2 more is better. Daniel you need to check your 'partners' too, they do some damage to a persons home and you'll be on the hook. You are open to a great deal of exposure without it!
