  1. i am curious as to what people think are the top 3 stains and the worst 3. this is in reference to deck stain. what 3 do you like the best and what 3 would you not use and why? thanks
  2. What is a good stripper for decks?

I use F18 on all my jobs and it works great. its much better than this HD80 that people on here are talking about.
  3. Ready Seal

how many years does RS last before you should have to clean and apply stain again? thanks
  4. estimating Sheet

hi, i am way down the list here but if you see me down here i would be interested in recv'g a copy also. thank you andye629@yahoo.com
  5. i use cwf almost on a daily basis and i dont think it is junk at all. 1st off it does not just sit on the surface, it soaks into the wood which is why i recommend it for older decks. 2nd, i have never seen cwf peel before unless it was applied over a different type of stain without being cleaned or stripped. if u r using an airless sprayer it is very easy to apply. just spray it on and it will have a cloudy look and you will see it just soaking into the wood. you dont even have to back role it but i would put 2 to 3 coats on the deck if u r spraying it on. it is the easiest product to use of any of the stains i have used. as far as how long it will last, i have seen the color last for 1 yr up to 3 yrs. i have talked to a few of the customers whos decks i did last year and they all said it looks as good as the day i did it but every now and then someone will call and say the color didnt last so i go over and put another quick coat on and they are happy. usually i get called back every 2 to 3 years to put another coat on so i give it a quick wash and apply it again.
  6. first deck

hey, i use cwf almost on a daily basis and never see drips. i use an airless sprayer and when cwf is applied it soaks into the wood. when u wash it it does have a pasty film to it. i'm wondering if they put 2 different products over each other without stripping off the 1st product. that might be why you are finding drips. as far as the burring that is caused from using to much pressure when cleaning. try contacting Bob at pressure tek and try some of his soap or stripper becouse i know that works well and you wont need as much pressure when cleaning. his stripper is the best i've seen.
  7. try a different type of soap.
  8. plastic is good depending on the job but whenever i mask a house with plastic the stain seems to drip down the plastic and then when u remove it there is stain on the bottom of the house. it doesnt do that with cardboard. it just seems to stick to the cardboard and very rarely do i have any cleanup.just take 3x3 or 4x4 pieces of cardboard and put them between the house and deck (overlap them) and u r good to go. it takes about 2 min to put up card board and u can keep using them over and over where plastic takes time to tape up and then u just throw out. i'm not knockin plastic but this is just my opinion and it works very well.
  9. i use sheets of cardboard and put them between the deck and house. they r about 3 ft high so its pretty hard to hit the house but if u still do hit the house i use krud kutter and a rag u can also buy shields at home depot or sherwin williams for about 15 bucks and they also work well but nothing beats good ol cardboard
  10. What pressure washer to buy????

contact Bob at pressure tek. this guy can help you out. great prices and service and an all around nice guy. www.pressuretek.com
  11. i have a deck job i have to do that has a driftwood gray color. i have already washed it and alot of the original color is still there. customer wants the exact same color and they dont know what was used. i am assuming that the last guy who did the job used berr or olympic but i'm not quit sure. i am thinking that becouse of the ware on the floor that it isn't olympic and that it is berr. not to familiar with these products. i have been looking at color charts by berr and olympic but it's hard to try to mach a color this way. which one of the two products would be better to use. i use an airless sprayer and i'm trying to find the product with the best coverage without putting 5 coates on the floor. thanks
  12. thank you for the replies but i'm trying to find out about berr or olympic. its hard to find wolman or cabot in my area and especially hard to find gray with those products. berr and olympic are the only products i can find around here that has a similar color so i need to find out which has the better coverage without applying 5 coates.
  13. it is a semi transparent on the deck and sherwin williams is telling me they can't tint that color. dont understand why becouse they have it in a solid stain but i need a semi. thats another reason why i think its olympic or berr.
  14. i would normally try to strip the deck but the customer is moving and doesn't want to spend that kind of money. they just want it washed and stained. they are only doing this becouse they are selling the house.
  15. Artillary Fungus

this is caused by using low quality mulch and i havent seen anything that takes it off. if u find something that takes it off u will notice that the paint will come off with it. it is also known as shotgun fungus
  16. has anyone heard about a deck stain that is supposed to last for 7 yrs. it is called ONE TIME (THE ULTIMATE DECK PROTECTOR). u can see this on there web site. www.onetimewood.com if anyone has worked with this or has any opinions about it after looking at there site i would be very interested to here what u think. i have heard about this stuff but not to familiar with it.
  17. hopefuly someone can help, i have gone to price a couple deck jobs which had stain already on it. sometimes the customer has no idea what kind of stain was applied and i was not sure by looking at it. i usually use either cwf or cuprinal. my ? is if u r not sure what is on the deck then what would u do. if i use cwf or cuprinal on an unknown product i am affraid it might peel off and cause more problems down the road. i would usualy think to strip it but there has to be an easier and cheaper way. maybe lol maybe not
  18. krud kutter works great on over spray. u can also use mineral spirits but that will sometimes smudge depending on the stain used. cant go wrong with krud kutter
