Deck Stripping
Chappy replied to RGilliam's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
It looks to me that you just did not finish washing the stripper off. The stain looks like it is coming off pretty good. You need to practice your wand movement so you dont leave the check lines. Like Ken said, apply acid to neutralize. it will lighten up the wood after the stripper darkens it. -
this letter is printed verbatim from an email received by the St. Pete Times. It actually very sad. Try not to let your jaw hit the desk when you read it. Can you imagine the face of the poor principle of this school as he reads it? The link after has reader comments. What does Pasco student's letter tell us? tbt* editor’s note: On Monday, tbt* published a story describing President Obama’s desire to increase the number of days U.S. children go to school each year. A junior at a Pasco high school e-mailed the following response — with the subject line “why dose nobody ask the students’’ — to tbt*. We offer the letter here, unedited: Dear “tbt” editor of which it may concern I’m a student of pasco county a junior to be precise and pleas do not mistake this for a Dear Abby segment I am not a 40 year old women concerned about her felines. I am just appalled as a member of the student body that in every in other words the only article I could find of president Obahmas plan to extend the school year, school days, and even rumored around school of making us work weekends that they have not a single students opinion on the subject. more so that they believe that the school boards “research” should stand as good evidence of the improvement in our “higher achievement”. a very intelligent man once said if you observe you have therefor changed the out come (now notice I didn’t abbreviate that phrase as I did the other stated phrases that’s because it’s not exact not as an insult to any of the readers but some would use this against the students to further there pointless war against other country’s grade average). at any rate not only do I believe it to be unreliable research but I also believe it dose not properly address to how our mind will adjust to the added stress. now personally I don’t get what in heavens name these people they put in these articles have to do with the students spending more time in school it’s not like there stuck in the classroom ding the extra work the teachers prepare to compensate for the extra time. are they siting first row in this teenage bomb they’re building. the plan reducing summer well first why don’t they come clean that they all ready reduced it we’re only on vacation for two months give or take a few days and for years they lied to our faces saying we have three months vaca. to sum it all up I just wish he public the pollutions the school board the reporters would address us on things that affect US not them now granted there may have been a segment on the news some were that addressed students about it but if there was did you even pay attention. and let me end this by saying the subduction of certain rights in order to maintain the learning enviorment making your usage of the 1st amendment right lesser then you would have in normal society is the same as removing them at the front step! Armstrong Clark compatibility
Chappy replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
i just bought a fancy google G1 phone. now I leave it in the truck because Im so worried about dropping it in water, or falling in a pool like I did with the last one. -
I have an APW skid, 5.6 Gpm, 3500 psi. the chem injector never worked, so I got a general pump 20% one. It never worked and would actually spit water backwards. Just replaced that with another GP 20% injector. and it pulls max of about 5%. I ran it for 1 full minute and drew less than a quarter of a 1 gallon pail! Its at the outlet of the heating coil. What am I doing wrong? Ive checked my connections, no air leaks. Any advice would help. Im tired of pulling the XJet out for small sections that would be fine with downstreaming.

Any one in miami area that wants an Ipe deck resto lead. Email or call me for info.

Especially IPE!
-
I just did my house with liquid car wax. Had to XJet it cause my downstreamer went kaput, but I was surprized how shiny the siding was after I was finished. Im curious to see how long it lasts.

Staining my deck
Chappy replied to JFife's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I love these threads. I learn so much. I only have one experience with Bakers. Gazebo and dock both stained with BGA super cedar gold/dark mix. Obviously the floor gets no sun, but notice the end of the dock. I replaced 10 boards. You can definitly see the difference. in fact Bakers specifically says not to use on new wood under 1 year old. the second set is my office deck with AC Semitrans Cedar. the steps and stair rails are all new wood. Again no sun hits this deck. It has a much richer look to it and you can't tell the difference in the new wood and old, with the exeption of one board by the door. (since my main experience is with Wood Tux, I was amazed at how well the wood absorbed the AC. even the second coat was all absorbed with no wiping off!) On a side note, I had the remaining Bakers in my shed. I pulled it out and tried to mix it up (about 2 years old now) and the solids had solidified completely. couldnt mix it at all. Dont know whats it it that would cause that nor have I let other stains sit that long so I dont know what to make of it. -
Staining my deck
Chappy replied to JFife's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Jon, you have a strange definition of vibrant. I know my experience is limited but that is a beautiful stain. -
After reading some of the things that have gone on over at the other boards lately, I came across this. It will be my new place too whenever people go off the deep end on threads.

A.C. Deck Restoration - Semisolid stain
Chappy replied to plainpainter's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I don't really like the color, but it matches the spindles well. Overall though, thats a veryfine restoration job. My own deck needs that type of work. replacing stringers, rail caps and rotted floorboards. I'm just waiting on cool weather. -
Just finished this deck in Tampa. Stripped 1 coat of an oil solid which came off easily, then 2 coats of something I coudn't tell. Took 3 strips with HD 80. Stained with Mountain Cedar Semi Solid

Good sign you won't be staining a deck...

People down here wait on roof cleaning jobs until Hurricane season is over. No reason to clean it if it might be blown off, right? -
RS Med Brown
Chappy replied to Adrian's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Thats a Purdy deck. That is a very dark color though. I cant say I like that color but the job looks good. -
I took my kid on a job with me. Customer had a Big Green Egg, (mini) that is very heavy. I moved it, but my kid moved it back. I had forgotten to tell him how unstable they are, and Smash! Customer was very nice about it, but they cost 3x the job amount!

Dan, that is one big deck. I think it looks very nice. -
AC Semi solid
Chappy replied to Chappy's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
If you look at the pic of the rails out in the sun, you can tell the true color better. Because the deck is covered and my poor picture taking skills, the color looks off. The true color is more a match to daniels. It really is mountain cedar. I only used one coat, and it sucked it in so much I almost ran out. The customer is thrilled, thank you very much, and have already been paid. I will try to work on my photography skills though. My finished pics often leave a lot to be desired, but to see them personally is like looking at the Sistine Chapel ceiling!! -
Brown Sugar to Cedar-Semi
Chappy replied to bigchaz's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
That's not fair and you know it Daniel. This is on IPE. and it got 12-16 months in full sun. WT may have its problems but so do alot of other products that people used to swear by. -
Brown Sugar to Cedar-Semi
Chappy replied to bigchaz's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I have been doing reminder calls at 2 years and I havn't been getting calls back for maintenace for the WT decks. Except for 2. The first dock at 2 years was faded but still in fair shape, the second was an IPE dock at 16 months. It was a little faded, but still had pretty good color retention with just a spot of about 10 sf of mildew in heavy shade area. I downstreamed bleach and every bit of WT came off. Edit: I found the pics, and I guess the color is more faded than I thought, and no oil left in it at all. But very little mildew. -
AC RT on new PTP
Chappy replied to Tonyg's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Ditto that. The AC does not leave shiny spots where it didnt soak in as well. -
mine just dropped to $0.92! Halaluyah!
