Too much pressure. I see a fair amount of damage. Solid stains, like paint, will peel. Too many places for water to get behind the siding and then you are in for bubbling, flaking and rot. Cedar is very sensistive to water damage.Sodium hydroxide may be your solution, but it also may be overkill. If you use this type of caustic you will then need to pH balance your wood with an acid (oxalic or citric) to neutralize the caustic. If you post your email address, I will send you to a link to a website that wil give you an A-Z consumer guide to woodcare and has products that are not as caustic and will make your job easier.

PressurePros replied to EnviroClean's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Jon was just busting chops, he and I have become pretty close friends. We're not going steady or anything though. -
BDA master, enlighten this man before he does something drastic.

Hahaha.. dude, you're killing me. Nice work .. Obviously it's effective but I still have 60 lbs of the other stuff. Send me a sample. I want to try. -
On the web it is listed at $119.99. The flow on that thing is probably in the .5 range. Russ, I'm trying to figure out what I am doing wrong. You get 30 feet of vertical spray from a ShurFlo pump??

PressurePros replied to EnviroClean's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Exactly Russ, and worth squat if they don't. The only way to build any tangible value (exponential of net income) in this type of business is to have long term, binding, transferrable commercial contracts. Your name may be worth a couple of dollars if you have been around and have a good reputation but in reality, most PW businesses are worth what their equipment is worth, not much more. -
Would be fine for doing decks. Distance at best might be a few feet.

Woohoo! Love the way this sprays!

I love to start spinning tales, but I'll keep this one brief. Lady calls, very nice, she says, "We need our roof cleaned. I think we want to get it colored also like our neighbor up the street." "Pardon"? "It's wood..shingles, only they are made of wood instead of the plain black kind. We want to get it stained and maybe sealed" Oh geeze, you gotta laugh. So I get the address and here it is. I have done exactly two cedar shake roofs in my life and combined they weren't this big. I wasn't even sure how to measure this. I am guessing it is about 7000+ sf of wood. Around the back are three levels of awesome masonry balconies that run the length of the home. Each of these has its own roof as well. The width of the home is about a hundred feet. Those that have more experience with this type of roofing (Rod, Shane etc) •What would be a fair charge per square. I did the others for $4. Is this a reasonable number on a roof? • I cleaned the others like I would a deck. EFC-38 and brightener applied via X-Jet. Maybe this one is a call for bleach? I had to go acrossed the street and put my camera to panoramic mode to fit the house in end to end. Around back they are having a pool built so I couldn't get pictures but it is a mirror of the front with multi tier gables etc. Rick, you sure you don't want to come out and help me tackle this bear?]

Rfitz, I agree with you one respect.. sending workers out to spray can be a bad idea. Where I disagree is that you can get better results. I get more product on in a quicker amount of time and every bit that is sprayed on gets brushed and worked into the wood. I find most times with a brush, coverage is not as complete (missed areas) -
Has anyone encountered an OSHA experience?

State specific business start up requirements.
PressurePros replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Business Topics & Tips
• Started in this business 17 years ago (as an employee during college). Left it for awhile to pursue career • Left the corporate world as a marketing manager in 1998 to partner in a company called Grease Doctor. • Started PressurePros, Inc in 2001 and switched to residential work the last 2-3 years. • We are insured with $1M in liability and carry Workman's Comp for one full time and two part time employees • Previously a member of the PWNA, the PA Restaurant Association and am currently a member of The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, BNI, and WRAPI • PA does not require licensing for contractors. When I did Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning I utilized Phil Ackland certification • I accept Visa, Mastercard, Discovery and Paypal and use Paypal's merchant gateway for field service and for products sold on www.restore-a-deck.com • Training includes: - working with four local companies before I ventured into any arena of PW'ing - ongoing chat with contractors from this board - hundreds of hours in time management, organizational and planning skills, sales, marketing and motivational courses. I listen to taped audio from the masters of sales and marketing almost every day - B.S in economics from a good school • For me daily prayer and meditation are crucial for success. Maybe this one should have been first -

I honestly wasn't offended in the least, Kem. I understand your passion. It's good. I was just defending my point because I felt you skewed the point I was trying to make. We don't neccessarily disagree, I just don't do PC.
-
Kem, while you do not know me personally, does it seem reasonable that I would just take a day, decide to visit a hospital with the sole intention of personal amusement? C'mon man, you are too emotionally involved with the topic when your logic starts falling apart. This is ALL about PC. Scott's post was right on target. Words are words. Certain terms and phrase come and go. To ostracize a person and get yourself all worked up because someone used a term that some may consider antiquated is, in my opinion, over the top. I worked in an office where a black guy would always correct anyone that refered to him as black. One day Mr Politically sensitive proceeds to pull the hotdog he was about to eat from its bun, calls a female secretary to get her attention and hangs it down in front iof himself with a big smile. Hypocrisy at its finest. Sure anyone that works in the field, suffers from their own disability or has a close loved one that has a handicap (is that word even still ok?) is going to get all charged up..but why? Sometimes you have to read tone to determine meaning. The dictionary and the DSM IV define the term mentally retarded very specifically. Would it have been less offensive if they used 'mentally retarded citizens'. Intonation.. there is a huge difference between what was published and lets say 'A trucker and a PW distributor got together to help the retards in their neighborhood' Political correctness is what can go where the sun don't shine. Anyone ever se PCU? Classic flick!

Of course not. Will I say no to someone that wants to pay $150 for just having one side cleaned? Every day of the week. I don't presume to tell the customer what they should and shouldn't have in concrete terms. My insinuation is, you sell them on the whole house wash. My minimum for a HW is $350. I do like others mentioned and let the customer know that my price would be for the whole house (better be a smaller one for $350) or just one side. If there is other work included and I think the rest of the house would not detract from my other work, I might consider it. It is far from arrogant to set a standard of work and stick to it. I tell people right off the bat that I do a job one way and that is the right way. Maybe I am arrogant to think I can set the term "right way". I can live with that.
-
Celeste, I forgot you guys do them. Any words of wisdom? I am thinking four guys, a weeks worth of labor, two machines, two lifts, repelling gear. Lance is right, I'll do anything out of the ordinary. I need a good pic for my portfolio. I'm thinking $15k. Would you guys get that down there?
-
Jon makes a point. God has a way of balancing things out. Way back when I was considering a career in the military and was stationed at LeJeune, NC I had chance to be visitng a hospital for the mentally disabled. I was thinking to myself, how could God be so cruel as to afflict these people this way then it hit me. These people are all smiling at me. I am the one that has the issues with their disability. So whom is offended by phrases like the above, Dan, you or the afflicted?
