Rick, watch out for those little gremlins that hide under decks. They took a bite out of your shoe. :D Cabot's makes a stripper that is very good but also very expensive. I believe it runs in the $25 per gallon range with a coverage rate of about 100 s.f/gallon. It also comes with the post strip pH balancing agent. Honestly, a strip job can be performed painlessly and for relatively little expense by a professional. That may be the way to go on the prep, then you can sand and stain yourself. All of us wood professionals have at one time or another been burned by stripper, killed a plant with it, or caused problems with oxidized siding until we had more experience working with chemicals. Hire a pro.

Dan, you were just better at hiding the bodies.

An interesting business
PressurePros replied to RPetry's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Same here. Can complete 20 of those per week and actually make money. For some reason I am now "Call PressurePros if you have a ridiculously large complex deck with every difficult variable you can think of and make Ken have to do one hour sales presentations to justify the $5000 charge". -
Michael, one thing that has worked for me on forums when I am reacting emotionally or in "knee-jerk" style is to type something and then walk away before I hit "SUBMIT". About 90% of the time when I reread what I wrote, I delete it. You are a charged up guy and that has probably allowed you to stay successful enough to keep your doors open. Now it may be more prudent to step back and allow yourself to fine tune the business side of things. You do that not by challenging every suggestion that is made to you. Take it on the chin. Suck it up. Choose your favorite phrase. When I read your initial post, while I can appreciate the humor of the action (of a guy falling), I was kind of disgusted. You let a guy run from your truck, represent your company by making an azz of himself, all the while you could have been doing something constructive. Chalk up the reactions you received to a learning experience. I doubt anyone here that runs a professional operation would find what your guy did amusing.

I wouldn't swear by it but that looks like some type of downstream injector test in the background. Dan's basements kicks!

A Deck Clean and Stain - A day in the life of a PressurePros crew

Just got a testimonail back from the customer. Some people are just a pleasure to work for: I rarely hire contractors without a referral from a known source. However, after meeting Ken I decided to proceed with Pressure Pros for my deck restoration project, and I’m very glad that I did. Ken and his team were always on time and organized. The house and shrubs were well protected from any overspray or other damage. Despite some very uncooperative weather, the project was completed in a timely fashion to my complete satisfaction. I would recommend Ken and his team to anyone considering a deck restoration. Brian McNamara -

This type of marketing cannot be viewed with a site owners personal preferences. Its just like in sales. Because I wouldn't pay $x for something does not mean there is not a market for people that will. I prefer to read through a website. But.. look at the big picture. There are potential customers out there with dyslexia, learning disabilities and others whom have difficulties absorbing large amounts of text. There are also non LD people whom prefer listening versus reading. The sale of audio books tells that story. In addition, as websites become a premiere form of marketing and there are literally billions of them, you have to stand apart. You have seconds to make your customer stand up and notice. I think many companies are using these audible intros incorrectly. I believe long winded diatribes can be a detriment but a quick 6 second "attention getter" would be very effective. Static sites are rapidly becoming boring and will be phased out. The proof, I suppose is in the pudding. Scott, if you wouldn't mind sharing, have your conversion and bounce rates been improved since this addition? -

Rick, it was definitely a challenge. Trying to get eight decks done between today and Wednesday so I can head to the beach for the rest of the week. Other than being ridiculously hot, the weather looks good. Thanks, Nate. -

Richard, isn't that the truth? Some guys have a natural knack for picture taking. I'm not one of them though I am getting better by just taking tons of pictures with various settings. And thank you for the kind words. -

Thanks, Charlie. I think the same things when I look at your pics. Next step for you is having guys able to do it for you so you can walk around and take pictures. :whip: -

That was layers of acrylic (I'd swear mixed with super glue). We brushed straight stripper onto those things twice. Yep, we had to sand it all off. And of course much of it was from ladders. It doubled my allotted prep time. -

Thanks, Beth! Customer is a super guy. Actually he and his wife are very nice and were patient while we worked through two ruined floor stainings because of the rain. We're scheduled for more work. -

Yeah and we stained the deck LOL. Baker's does not like rain. The floor and handrails will probably need a recoat. That glass was a major pain. We didn't even finish. We still have the bottom deck. Sanding took three hours. Whatever acrylic junk was on that deck would not budge with straight brushed on stripper. Went through probably 20 60 grit pads. I'll make a separate thread when the resto is complete. -

Jim, they are actually solid glass channeled into the rails. The wood was routed for exactly the size of the panel so there is no side-to-side movement. The company that built it did great work. I'll post all the pics when I am done. Over 3000 s/f of wood. Here's a closer pic.. mold's nice huh?
