  1. Sealing Concrete after using oxalic for rust.

Why did you not bill out cleaning all of the concrete? You have to do that before you apply a sealer. That looks like hell right now. You really wanna lock that in?
  2. Anybody come across this?

It isn't like you have to worry about killing it ;-)
  3. Favorite Groups

Its funny you mention this. I was just discussing this with Christine (whom is 11 years my junior at age 28). The first thing that creeps up on you as old age is "today's musc is all crap". I happen to think its all crap. Now this is from a guy that considers old Metallica "classic rock" and listens to bands like Korn, Drowning Pool, Tool, and considers Rob Zombi to be a master of arrangement. Does the music suck or are we just old? Fot what its worth, I still think OG style gansta rap (NWA, KRS-1, Ghetto Boys etc, Snoop) is listenable. Today's rap is just a clone of wannabe rappers, boy bands (which I consider any band with a number in its name) and garbage.
  4. Woud you mind sending me that one Beth?
  5. Beth, do you have an MSDS for WT? (if you haven't burned it yet )
  6. You wouldn't need the rubber suit but a respirator and/or face shield would be advisable (even with the EFC-38)
  7. WTW tips

Thats the wood tux I know from last season. Thanks Scott.
  8. 8 oz per gallon is good, Jon.
  9. I have to tell a story about this job. I arrive for the proposal and the guy is watering his lawn. "Hi, Mr B, Ken, PressurePros. We spoke on the phone?" "Oh hey, Hi Ken. Let me show you the deck, I just need the flaking washed off and then resealed." As we go around the back he tells me he hired a guy two years ago to do the deck and he was surprised that deck doesn't last very long. When I turn the corner I get that little lump in my throat. The dreaded solid. Here is what I saw: Yikes!
  10. crap....behr solid

I played the hit and miss in the very beginning. Had a couple solids that came off with no problem. Its when you get that first one that you go back to six times and the customer thinks you are incompetant where you wake up and say I am taking the time to do a test spot. Its a tough call. Do you waste the time figuring out how to strip it only to find out the customer is looking to spend $400 on their 800 s/f deck?
  11. crap....behr solid

This is the one I tried to hit up. http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/wood-cleaning-restoration-decks-fences-etc/5021-acrylic-nightmare-kids-dont-try-home.html
  12. crap....behr solid

Nope that wasn't it... back to the drawing board
  13. It gets too weak. Won't kill mold spores. HD-80 or F-18 for downstreaming. The dilution is what determmines whether they are used as a cleaner or a stripper.
  14. crap....behr solid

Or it can be like this. http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/scrap-book/7264-not-your-daddys-film-former.html?highlight=your+daddy%27s+acrylic
  15. Do Not Mail" List

Read in Inc magazine that they are talking about implementing a do-not-mail list so people receive less junk mail. What do you think about that?
  16. Happy 4TH

Scott, you mean drinking a six pack and seeing whom can hold a quarter stick the longest is not good?
  17. Sopranos - How did it really end?

I grew up in South Philly. You knew who was in and who wanted to be in.
  18. I couldn't agree more about two man crews.
  19. Sopranos - How did it really end?

Thats why they left it with the mystery... I can see them making a movie. I'd actually like to see it
  20. Sopranos - How did it really end?

There clues throughout the last couple of episodes. The bigest one being when Tony was sitting on the bed holding the gun and they replayed Boby's words "You never hear it coming" Tony is dead.
  21. Is increasing Price after quote right?

For what its worth Mike, second story roofs start at $750 and go to $1500 here. You are not in a lowball area. What possessed you to charge that cheaply?
  22. Advertising...

Hey Steve, good to see ya.. You will probably get a response rate from zero to one half of a percent. 2000 cards will yield maybe 8-10 calls. Of those calls, without target marketing, you will get 2 that you will eliminate as not worthwhile. Of the 6-8 estimates remaining you will land 3-4 jobs. Much more effective would be to pick 1000 houses within a certain radius based upon some detailed criteria (income, time of ownership, etc) You can get a targeted mailing list from a place like infousa.com or use a local mailing/marketing house. Confirm that the addresses you are targeting are in areas that are rich with contractor/landscaper activity. • Send those houses an introduction letter and a magnet. • Two weeks later send them a postcard. Drive them to your website to se your work. • Two weeks later, send it again with a call to action (FREE driveway cleaning with deluxe housewash). • As you start getting jobs hammer the surrounding areas with door hangers. • In the areas you are targeting, find out what the people there like to do and what religion dominates the area. Use support advertising to hit those. (ie advertise in their church bulletin, sponsor little league team, advertise on the bulletin board at the country club) • Also in the areas you target have newspaper ads in the classifieds. I'm tlaking about one of those business card sized ads. • Something free to do is donate your services to a school or church then call the press to cover it (they will) Start this now and by the late summer rush you will dominate those areas. 1000 cards mailed again in September should get you a call back rate of between 30 and 40 calls from prequalified people. If you have some sales ability, you can be the highest price guy and close 15-20 jobs. Next year, you do it again only you add another adjacent service area. Does It Work? We have completed 140+ new customer jobs this season and the phone continues to ring. Our database will exceed 500 this year. From this point on I expect it to grow about 200 customers per year. If you deviate from this plan (everyone does) expect your results to drop dramatically. Make sure your website and your advertising are done right. Make sure your truck(s) look good and are logo'd.
  23. McMoo is Gone... Let's remember him

    Oh my God. Thats horrible.
  24. Is increasing Price after quote right?

nope. Everyone will have differing opinions but we all have jobs that we underquoted due to inexperience. A lesson isn't a good one unless you are stung by the mistake. Finish it and chalk it to experience.
