Larger Battery for Deckster?
PressurePros replied to fireandrain's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I have found the gel-cel battery I picked up from Sunbrite to work as advertised.. longer lasting and good weight savings over larger car battery. -
Should I do this? (alum. siding)
PressurePros replied to ACSTravis's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Use the lowest amount of bleach you can get away with and stay away from using a caustic to remove oxidation unless you plan on washing every inch of the house via close cleaning (ie ladders etc). The thing you are going to be looking for is the level of mold and level of oxidation. If you have a ton of mold on a house, its been neglected and the chance of you streaking the sidding are fairly high. On these types of houses we use a two step process of an acid clean followed by a low caustic housewash mix. I charge double for this procedure. We also follow by using a wax/polymer to give a tiny bit of luster back to the siding. The last one we did with this method was 2800 square feet and the housewash was billed at $980. -
Dried out Deck
PressurePros replied to plainpainter's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Yes, Dan I mean replacing the floorboards. The reason I say that is because the board quality on that surfacem is suspect if there is a high degree of leching. As Beth mentioned, its an ongoing issue that cannot be undone by sealing. It always comes back. Replacement is the only solution. I am not a fan of replacing individual boards, espeicaly on PTP because to get any type of coninuitty of color you will ned to let those boards age for awhile (6 months? a year?) In the interim, boards you did not replace sit there untreated and suffer the warping effects of wet/dry cycles. -
Chalk it up to experience and spread the word like Kevin mentioned.

Dried out Deck
PressurePros replied to plainpainter's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
1. Stop using bleach ;-) 2) Use a product like Ready Seal or Wood Rich Timber Oil 3) Top seal with WT The deck honestly sounds like it needs to be reskinned. Ipe would hold up better as long as customer wanted it turn gray. If they like the stained look I would not go ipe. Maybe cypress? -

PressurePros replied to fireandrain's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Here's the thing, Kevin. I'm not trying to break your stones (well I am a little bit) but let's use OSHA's standards or for that matter even UPS's shipping standards. The only reason I bring this up is because this past week I had an issue with shipping WoodZotic. Something that is combustible can be shipped via UPS ground with no special classification (based upon flash point). Something that is "flammable" needs special handling and is considered Hazmat. Like I said, I don't know all the caveats of definitions. I was hoping you could clear up what I don't understand. -

One should always use an OSHA approved cannister for rag disposal and its a good idea to spray your traps down with degreaser before folding up for storage. -

Kevin, I was making a point. The RS crowd points to linseed based products as the devil and I have heard several people mention that it wasn't combustible. (Its 90% solids right? Whats in it that can cause spontaneous combustion? ) Greg nailed it. It is the flash point at which it can occur. "spraying it could result in a more serious flame.." Does that make it combustible or flammable? I'm still sketchy on the differences myself. Perhaps you can look this up for us Kevin and write a dissertation on the topic? ;-) -
Massaranduba and spotted Penofin
PressurePros replied to RPetry's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Typical Penofin.. color shifted and probably mold spore infested. Did it rain after the finish was applied? Penofin is another one of those finishes that I cannot understand how gets so many endorsements. -

Who Does Fleet Work in Philly area?
PressurePros posted a topic in Contractor Help Wanted - Job Leads
I got a call for a fleet job. 40 busses (72 passenger), exterior only. I know I'm not interested in it but if somene else is, I'd like to give a name when I call back. -

PressurePros replied to PressurePros's topic in Contractor Help Wanted - Job Leads
What happened was this. The bids were by invitation. They were not real receptive when I told them I could recommend contractors from my network. They said I was welcome to bid and subcontract if I chose to. So I bid the busses (based upon what others have told me) at a high price. I did that Saturday morning and this morning I got an email saying the job was mine if I wanted it. Didn't seem like much of an open bid. Either that or I was the last to bid and I lowballed it lol. These things sit in a yard with sanitary drains, water every 150 feet that flows 10 gpm. The busses are school busses and they are big. Like little houses. I've never done fleet work and I'm sure I'll take a bath until a few guys get used to doing it. Either way it keeps them busy and reduces my payroll burden a bit every month. -

The type of oil that it is made with (baby oil) is not combustible. It doesn't have mineral spirits either. Like I said though call Peirce (I think that's his name) to be sure. I have hear rumor through the grapevine that some things have changed. I don't use it. -

The nice thing (as far as I have heard) is that Ready Seal is not combustible so I imagine you can just put them in a trash bag and toss them. Contact the manufacturer to be sure though. -

Then again, it will still look better than 90% of what is outputted as professional work out there (in the field) anyway. Try using bed sheets tacked over the railing so you don't get saturated with stain when you are doing the outside rails. Then just flip them over to catch overspray on inside rails. -

If the deck is dry in that second set of pics, Shane is right. That's not gonna stain well. -
Stephen, I think ordering on Friday and receiving on the following Friday is reasonable. If you order that late on Friday, it means it may not get processed until Monday. Let's say its shipped Monday afternoon from Colorado to NJ. That will easily take four days. As far as leaving packages at your door, the shipper can denote in their ship software that no signature is neccessary from recipient. As far as multiple carriers.. It sounds good on paper but the rates are dramatically different the more volume you do. So if Bob could offer you $18 in UPS ground charges versus $26 with Fed Ex, would you be okay with that?.. Final note: Certain products canot be put into the air thus eliminating overnight ship. Just wanted to give you a different perspective because my eyes have been opened with Restore-A-Deck. I think having your order processed within 24 working hrs of order time is a reasonable expectation. What I cannot tolerate is placing an order and then being in limbo (NO TRACKING NUMBER NOR COMMUNICATION) for days after I order. Did the order go through? Was it proccesed? Should I order a plan B from another supplier. I think this is the situation BNR went through and I don't blame them for being upset.

Mine has slowed considerably too as it does every year midway through June. Now is the time when I start really advertising and get caught up on maintenace work with previous customers. Pull out your customer list and start calling.
