  1. Northeast Philly. Job is yours, no sub.
  2. The Latest Hot Movies

Devil's Rejects and House of 1000 corpses were very suprising. I liked both. Zombine knows how to show point of view. Little Miss Sunshine was a riot.
  3. Rando, I wrote that tongue-in-cheek. There have been some recent posts on the boards with some guys lambasting the fact that information is so freely given. I understand where they are coming from to a certain degree.. I persoanlly think these forums should be private and read only by verified contractors. I talked with a customer the other day about a DIY project and she said to me "should we use our X-Jet to spray the Restore-A-Deck?" whaaaat? I had to laugh.
  4. Oops, sorry about that Kevin. Everytime I go to PPI mails there are 300 customer inquiries I get into then I get burned out and forget why I originally signed in. Shooting me an email is the best way to remind me, then i'll reply and forward it to you. pressurepros mail(dot)com Its Wood Tux Brown Sugar diluted 50% with min spirits.
  5. The Jim Carroll

Jim, Welcome Back For Another Season. Happy Anniversary.
  6. Would this be too much pigment? Look at the rails on the left. The rail on th right and steps were done five minutes before this pic was taken and sealer hasn't fully penetrated yet. This deck was stained a year ago and still isn't gray. There is no clear that will hold up for more than 6 months. You need a little bit of UV protection.
  7. Problems with cabots??

I liken the problem to the emissions crunch of the later seventies and eighties. You had to have 400+ cubic inches to get over 150 horsepower back in those awful days. Now you get sixes that approach 300 horsepower. To answer your question directly, Dan.. No I don't think they will. There is much less "technology" to play with in a stain/sealer. Formulas like Wood Tux (VOC compliant, the right resins, pigmentation and carriers) are very expensive to manufacture. A company like Cabot's would have to charge $90 per gallon to make something like that. I think we'll see one of two things happen. More companies will produce pigmented baby oil. Or Most companies will folow the lead of Deckscapes and only offer water borne stuff.
  8. Excellent technique.. if I may suggest a turbo nozzle next time for better production rate. Tell Sylvia I am overdue to make contact with my dioceased Rottweiler.
  9. Problems with cabots??

All Cabot's oil/alkyds in our area (Northeast) have been reformulated to meet VOC compliance and they are LOUSY. Color shift, mold growth, spontaneous combusion rates that make rags start smoldering while you hold them on a hot day, etc etc. Strip it off and start again.. Stay away from the stuff on store shelves.
  10. Please don't share what you used because homeowners are frequenting this site in droves ;-)
  11. Crap, I just ordered from Scott yesterday and forgot to try some of those pads. Add OPW to the approved vendors list. This is the second time I ordered. I placed my orders right around noon and received both tracking numbers by later in the afternoon. Products came in perfect condition with heavy duty packaging. Very professional. Though I don't know if this is true on every product but Scott offers contractor discounts when you sign up for an account (you will receive coupon codes via email if you are a verified contractor) I will not hesitate to do business with OPW in the future.
  12. You can use a latex topcoat over the oil primer. The Cabot's stirpper will not work on a solid. Applying topcoats with a roller has two downfallls. You won't get between the cracks and you may end up with roller marks.
  13. Homemade Downstreaming/X-Jet

That's not what you asked. You asked about X-Jets and downstreamers. There is a search button and a library on this forum that you will find invaluable.
  14. Same boat Greg. I talk everyone out of it. This for a customer that is ordering product (stain) from me and insists on doing it.
  15. Asphalt driveways

Just use the shutoff valve at the end of your hose where the gun attaches. Close it enough to creat agitation and it rinses dirt like a firehose.
  16. Homemade Downstreaming/X-Jet

This has been discussed a hundred times or so and the concensus is always the same. Buy the right tools to get the job done. No one has been able to duplicate the X-Jets draw ratio. A cheap downstreamer will set you back $10. You can use one of the cheaper knockoffs of the X-Jet that will be fine to do vinyl housewashes. This type of injector attaches to the end of your lance like any other nozzle. A downstreamer attaches sometime after your pump and usually before the output hose.
  17. DIY shurflow chemical induction

LOL.. I will give you credit, Kev, you have an uncanny talent for taking something basic and making it seem like fusing atoms.
  18. WHAT To Do With LOWBALLERS?

If he thought it was fair, why didn't you sign him on the spot? One sure fire way to beat lowballers is to not give them the chance to bid. Take it as a lesson learned and brush up on your closing skills. As Barry mentioned, selling value is everything. You price was well low enough to close this deal.
  19. Dilemma

Scott, by either buying used after someone else has paid the majority depreciation or by leasing so that you are only paying the value depreciation.
  20. Dilemma

I know what you mean, Jeff, I'm the same way (not inclined to have to do repairs) but today's vehicles last ten+ years and 200,000 miles before they need anything major. Keep in mind the first rule of building wealth..never buy anything that depreciates.
  21. Catch Phrases

I know the term is a bit ambiguous. Put it into this context, Gar. "Mrs, Johnson, I use contractor grade deck sealers. This is what allows me to offer a two year warranty on decks. You'll be able to enjoy your deck for two years before you have to pay for another staining"
  22. Catch Phrases

Barry, it can be pretty simple. "I want to thank you for signing on with us. From here on out your deck is one less thing you'll have to worry about. We will keep it clean and splinter free so you (and the kids) can enjoy time outside without having to go though this process year after year. As a PressurePros customer you'll also receive our newsletters that come with preferred customer discounts. Of course, like we discussed, your maintenance costs will be substantially less once we get the deck in shape. Do you have any other concerns or questions ? ... Okay great, we'll see you on the week of the ninth. My business card has my direct line on it. If anything comes up, please feel free to give me a call."
  23. Dilemma

Jeff, get off the vanity tip. This is business. Why do you need a new vehicle that is going to sit for half a year? Why take on another note? Buy something outright, do some jobs over the summer. Sell it on e-bay as a turnkey rig later in the season you'll probably get most of your money back and turn a nice profit from your work. When you're ready next year and have your ducks lined up with storage and employees and can expand you can look into a new rig then. I am anti-equipment junky. If something won't turn a profit from day 1, I don't need it.
  24. I second Rick's sentiment. Those after pics should come with UV-30 sunblock. Nice job, junior woody.
  25. Catch Phrases

If you know your stuff and, like Barry mentioned, are genuine you will automatically spew catch phrases so to speak. Here are some things in my proposals (presented without gimmick): contractor grade landscape friendly pH balancing low pressure washing playing Russsian Roulette hundreds of references and satisfied clients been around long enough to know how to do a job properly Its all in the order of your presentation. • Greet and engage with small talk • Take control of position (get them to sit down and relax) • Ask questions and listen, spew back what they said so they KNOW you are listening • Talk about your company • Share your property evaluation • Make recommendations pertinent to their expecatations and desires • Plant seeds for upsell • Backup your claims with pictures, insurance certs and offer references • Close • Sign contract and address buyer's remorse
