Referrals amongst contractors
PressurePros replied to Jeff Robison's question in Residential Pressure Washing
It depends upon what a company's acquisition cost is for leads. If a guy has a marketing budget of 10% gross sales and you send him a hot lead that turns into work at his usual margin, then asking for ten percent is a very reasonable fee. The problem is, most guys won't see it that way. I think Jeff is right. Keep it informal and exchange leads. If you think it will be too one sided make a prearranged price per lead. If you came to me and offered me leads at 10% of what I am charging I would say no thank you. -
Michael, whats the plan of attack?

Making shutters shine
PressurePros replied to PA Dutchman's question in Residential Pressure Washing
If someone can figue out a way to do shutters without a ladder, I'll jump onboard. "I wash myself with a rag on a stick" Bart Simpson -
I used to stick a magnet on Christine's car when she wasn't looking. That was until I got a call from the Acme (supermarket) requsting that I pay for my advertising and not stick my magnets on the sides of shopping carts. I was ready to drive over and stick my foot into the rear end of the very beligerent manager when I looked outside and low and behold, no magnets on Chris's car. That was a nice little fight. LOL. I have thought about doing little bronze tags that I can tack onto decks. "This deck serviced by.." sort of thing.

cleaning up the neighborhood
PressurePros replied to Curb Appeal's question in Residential Pressure Washing
That wouldn't be a good idea. It would be an excellent idea! My customers like looking at my portfolio but how much more exciting and professional would it be to have them watching a slide show on a laptop! Joel, you rock, bud. am going to implemet this immediately (and include the idea in my marketing/sales presentaion in St Louis) Thank you. -

Darn good advice for a "newbie". Troy, don't let it fall on deaf ears or you may regret it. -

Raising that standard of the PW'ing industry! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Doesn't say much about originality though. -

PressurePros replied to CHAMOS's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I am not sure I understand what you have to do. Is this a paint prep? My next question would be.. how do you propose to spot clean the top of a building. You have to bid this as cleaning 100% of the walls. Do you know what the stains are and do they need to come out as much as possible including shadowing or again, is this paint prep? Have you performed a sample cleaning to see what you will need for the job? Do you have hot water? (makes stucco cleaning faster) Is the roof flat and/or walkable? (makes gutter cleanout easier) 29,000 s/f of stucco for paint prep, I'd lowball it at $2500. If I had to clean it for curb appeal the price would be about $4500. If it is a walkable roof (flat), I would add the gutters in for another $1000. So this time of year between $3500 and $5500 depending on the scope. -
Cleaning house over here. I have 6 silver dollars minted in Carson City. These are uncirulated coins dating from 1880-1884. They are in some type of acrylic case. I don't know jack about coins. I am going to take them to a dealer but you know how it is.. I don't know if they are worth $10 or $1000. I tried figuring out what they were worth on the PCGS site but it's like trying to figure out what a diamond is worth. I don't know how to grade them. I imagine they aren't proofs but they don't look like they have ever ben handled. Does anyone know anything about coins?
-
I took the whole lot to a numismatic expert. He said the 1880 CC Morgan is is a gem. He guessed it at 64 or 65. I sent them to PCGS to be cracked open and graded. I decided to hold onto them for my son. Hugh I tried again and again ton get a picture but my camera either made the pic blurry or when I put the flash on was a white out. I tried different backdrops etc. Here is one that isn't as bad as the rest (that should give you an idea how lousy a photographer I am). I need a camera that can take macro.
-
Thanks gents. From what I have found in my crash course on coins the 1880 is the rarest. These are all uncirculated and are pristine, so I hope that means what I think it means.

Dustin. Perfection, man (I don't mean on the cleaning, but that looks excellent as well). That thank you letter is something no one should miss.

Clean Windows Included In Price?

Right again Jeff but let me pose this to you. I come in tommorrow. I am now 'wannabe Condo King'. Your customers, PM's etc ask, "where's Jeff". "No fear", I tell them, "I am going to take care of you from now on." What is your prediction? Would I make the same exact money you are making now?
-
Exactly, Ron. Thats what makes one's business not worth as much if they are involved in daily operations like selling or PR. Ron ********** himself may be worth a fortune, but unless I can step in, buy it, utilize Ron's systems and make exactly the same money as Ron does, his business doesn't have as much value.
-
Jeff, talk to your supplier. They may even be willing to help finance the project since they can sell you bulk and recommend the easiest system for filling based on their criteria. Not to mention they can help you with OSHA legalities etc.
-
Jeff, I could use a retail outlet down there for RAD. I'm not sure what you are zoned for. I'll PM you my number if you want to discuss it over the weekend.
-
Keep it anonymous. I went for the ego and put up a sign on this small piece of property where I keep my trucks. In six months I was broken into twice (attempted, they couldn't get in the trucks). Took sign down - 0 problems since. Congrats on the new digs. I need a new warehouse for RAD wanna get into the picK and pack biz? ;-)

Best Method to Remove Loose Paint
PressurePros replied to Jhignutt's question in Residential Pressure Washing
This is just a generalized statement not targeted at you, Stephen. They are all looking to save money (painters whom call us to prep included). When the customer has a failing coating in two years he is going to ask SW why and they are going to say "bad prep". It has to be done and priced correctly. Jhig, for what its worth, take whatever price you had in mind and double it. At the very least come back and share how it turned out for you. -Ken -
Best Method to Remove Loose Paint
PressurePros replied to Jhignutt's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Paint prep is NEVER a normal wash when flaking paint is involved. Extension wands, higher pressure and ladders are often needed. Wash the house in a higher concentration of TSP after you knock down the flakes (don't be surprised if you have to scrape some spots) An M5 is not goona cut it IMO, but I also cannot see the project to make a fair asessement. -
6%, Simple Cherry and TSP vs 12%
PressurePros replied to MarksMobileWash's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Call the source and ask him. TSP is a great bolstering chemical for sodium hypochlorite. You can use less "bleach" Which by the way, is a huge effort in spinning your wheels if you leave it out. With the right soap, you can use 1.5%-2% sodium hypochlorite hitting the walls to kill mold. Bob will tel you how to achieve that dilution. -
My prediction is you will see a new org arise as these roundtables get more and more structured. I nominate Bob for president.
