  1. Restora

Its a pretty fair assumption that the mailing list came from this board. I'm not complaining, its an interesting looking product with some expensive marketing behind it.
  2. I agree with John. That is the ratio we use as well.
  3. who's good at math?

    I hear music..
  4. who's good at math?

Rando, unless I am misunderstanding you are gonna have .9% in the bucket. By the time you run it through your X-Jet clone it will be less than one quarter of one percent. I drink that when I feel a cold coming on ;-)
  5. who's good at math?

    holy cow. :groovy2:
  6. who's good at math?

First figure out your dilution in the bucket. 1:13.3 in your bucket already takes you to .9% (a bit too weak IMO) Now dilute that .9% and divide it by 4 (.22%). I like to end with about 1.5% sodium hypochorite (mixed with synergisitc caustics like TSP and metasilicate) hitting the house. I think I would try a 1:1 mix of 12% sodium hypo to water.
  7. Linseed oil on locust

I can't keep track of all the woods being labeled hardwood and being used for decks.. definitely the wave of the future. To reiterate what has already ben said, linseed oil outside will turn black in a month. Linseed is a good drying oil but it needs mildewcide added in pretty copious quantity.
  8. A big Jim Cramer Booh-yah fellow business owners! Let me tell you a story from a day in the life..(its gonna help you get rich) Yesterday, I dug a huge hole in the ground at the shop so I could save a $1 per gallon installing and filling a 500 gallon tank with sodium hypochlorite. It'll last all season and it cost me $1800 to construct and fill it but that extra $4 per job I was spending was just wiping out my profit margin. After I was finished with that project, I drove 22 miles to save 10 cents per gallon on some gas and diesel! With the 250 gallons per month I go through, taking the trip 4-5 times per month with two vehicles that average 10 mpg is worth it to save the $25. Don't you agree? Hell, whats a wasted 6 hours of my time per month? At least those greedy oil barons aren't getting my extra $25 ! I had some daylight left so I did some pm on my gear. The China-made QC's are all shot and that hose is looking a little iffy. Even though I replaced them just last month, I have more on hand because I was smart and faxed an order to the company with no customer service. No customer service+imported parts=cheap. Thats good, no? So an American manufacturer won't see any profit from me, thats not my problem. (I'll just post "God Bless America and our soldiers" later on and I will redeemed) I have a whole boxload of these China-mades and they cost me $2 less per coupler. You can't be that with a stick. I do hope I have enough to get through the season though. The hose.. I'll just pray holds out. At night, sitting analyzing my numbers and thinking about the next day's work I see we have four deck strips. I'm wondering if we can get them all done. The new stripper I bought is not quite up to performance of what we used to use. So a little more dwell time and higher pressure never killed anyone, right? I'll tell the guys they have to work an extra hour tommorow. Crap, I'm one of those guys. Oh well I saved 25 cents per gallon on the cheaper stripper and that adds up! Tommorow alone I will save $12. Oh wait a minute, the extra payroll is going to cost me $60. Crap. I though I was smart ordering all that stuff to save shipping. I better add rearranging my shed yet again to my task list. For next year, I have a really good idea. The local guys are killing me on machine prices. I don't need service right? You guys here at TGS will help me if I have any issues I can't figure out. Throw away those Landas and overpriced workhorses you guys say... Cheap is the way to go! Okay, I'm on board. Should I factor down time into the equation? I mean I figure I will have to spend some time fixing design flaws and waiting for parts to ship back and forth right? But I will save a bundle in the long run. My local shop may have me back up and running in under an hour on any given day but I am not giving those guys $75 an hour anymore. Crooks. I'd like to thank all the guys who so often post about saving a dollar here and there. You have opened my eyes. I had been previously wasting my time figuring out how to maximize profits through upselling, closing sales and refining my marketing. Here it was all along.. the key to success is buying right. Screw the local businesses. I'll just milk them and expect them to hire me. Why should I give back and perpetuate my local economy when I can wear the badge of honor that says I can buy it cheaper than you can? Now if I could just figure out where to spend all this extra money I am going to make in '07.
  9. Rookie

Interesting, Troy. If there is anything I can do to help you as far as business plan, marketing ideas or techniques, feel free to give me a holler.
  10. Business Plans

I am still interested, Bill. This is your baby. I'm expecting you to lead with format, scheduling etc. I know you don't want it too formalized but no one including myself will just take a look at someone's wants/needs and analyze them and then come back and discuss them at a later time unless there is an agenda to do so. I agree wholeheartedly with this concept. I am very srong in some areas and could use help in some others. I have learned disciplines that will make guys millionaires (the right kind of guys) and I spin wheels with the time bandits as well. I have hundreds of hours of seminars, schooling and techniques from e-myth structuring to industrial psychiatry utilized in personnel hiring and quite honestly.. I need refinement in pulling it all together. I seek a group of peers that can assess and properly analyze a model and see it for its flaws as well as its potential success. All of this.. PressurePros, RAD Systems International, Curves, Cold Stone and any future endeavors are all prerequisites to what I really want. I want to be giving the $5000 seminars, writing the top selling buisness how-to's and charging $15,000 per day to speak at Fortune500 companies. Any group, meeting or mind that can further this goal has my attention. Ken out.
  11. Business Plans

Bill, I will be giving a seminar on how to be politically incorrect and turn even a silly poll into a hot topic posting. Catch up with me at ACR. All interested, fee is $50 USD. Still standing by... Ken
  12. Rookie

I think you should explore wood restoration. Shamong is a hotbed for it. Yes come to the meeting at ACR. There is a gentleman named Everett from Shamong whom will help you.
  13. My New Flyer/leaflet

I think the Brits use the spelling "mould" more often, Jar. Roger I like the brochure. Did you design? Wanna be my first European distributorship? ;-)
  14. Electric Power Washer

An electric washer (1.2 gpm) wired to the alternator of a truck, hose stuck in a bottle of bleach. Thats all you need to start a business. Get 'er Done!
  15. Use of WD-40

    • Eats O-rings Silicone spray is better for our application.
  16. New business question

Just ignore everything I have ever written and you'll be fine ;-) welcome to the board.
  17. Synergistic just means those chemicals work with each other and compliment each other's abilities to clean and remove mold. It is not a word you will find in the name of the chemical. Brand name? If you mean Home Depot or local, there is nothing out there. There is a housewash called Citracleen made by a Steve Rowlett. That might be a good starting place for you.
  18. Vote

Ryan for President in '08 !
  19. Rando, It suds incredibly and a little goes a long way. You could add 1-2 oz per gallon and still get clinging foam (when using an X-Jet) Wayne, I did side by side comparisons of a quality housewash mix (TSP, sodium metasilicate, surfactants and rinsing agents) with just dawn mixed with equal parts bleach. The results were dramatically different enough for me to visually notice the final product. The main thing is you can use 35% less sodium hypochlorite. The finished product showed better removal of carbon and overall cleaner looking siding. This is on vinyly. On stucco the results aren't even in the same league. Don't take my word for it, try your own tests at your house.
  20. Dawn/Ajax appear like good workers form the start until you experience the real thing in housewashes. I sent them back to Mexico after doing side by side comparisons. Homeowner products = mediocre results.
  21. 4 oz per gallon is way too much, especially if you use an X-Jet. You could use that much if you downstream but the stuff is pretty expensive. I tried it, its a cool product but was too pricy to use consistently. Other products work as well or better.
  22. Working on a property flip and I am not equipped for roof cleaning (plus I hate it). Will include gutter cleanout so you gotta get up there. I'll pay you the minute you finish. Name your price. Someone that has the safety gear, pumps and chem tank can make over $100/hr. Approx 90 LF of second story gutter. Another 50 on the first floor. This picture is front. Identical on back. Plus is Sod is not going until next week so you don't have to worry about killing anything. Negative is. I need you here by Friday at the latest. Please call me ASAP 610-662-4036
  23. Roof Cleaning, Radnor PA - HELP!

I have to go back and get pics. They are are gonna be delayed as the scaffolding is still up and the (areas of) the support ledges are gonna need to be touched up.
  24. Surfactants are important but don't disclude the power of the right caustics in the mix.
  25. No more 4 cylinders for me!!

I hear on a 454 you can replace the fuel injectors with X-Jets. Might just be a rumor though.
