  1. Are you a Democrat, Republican or Redneck? Here is a little test that will help you decide. The answer can be found by posing the following question: You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, an Islamic Terrorist with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, praises Allah, raises the knife, and charges at you. You are carrying a Glock 40 cal and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do? Democrat's Answer: Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the man look poor! Or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack? Could we run away? What does my wife think? What about the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand? What does the law say about this situation? Does the Glock have appropriate safety built into it? Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children? Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me? Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me? If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? Why is this street so deserted? We need to raise taxes, have paint and weed day and make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior. This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for few days and try to come to a consensus. Republican's Answer: BANG! (wonders if illegal aliens get government funded funerals) Redneck's Answer: BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! Click..... (Sounds of reloading) BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! Click..Click..Click Daughter: "Nice grouping, Daddy! Were those the Winchester Silver Tips? Son: Can I shoot the next one! Wife: You ain't taking that to the Taxidermist!
  2. TSP and bleach. As long as possible dry/air time and then spray everything with BIN (shellac type sealer) Now the caveat. I wouldn't put my name on this type of job because so many variables can cause different types of lingering smell or areas untreated can smell literally for decades. Try contacting Russell Cissell. I have a strong feeling that he will b able to tell you a more definitive path. This was the technique recommended to me after a small shed fire and it seemed to work well but of course I wasn't living out there.
  3. Free Water

But if you break that down, how muchh of that is going towards your business to legitimize the effort you are speaking of? Water is about $2 per 1000 gallons here. I could not imagine pumping and treating enough to fill a tote to save 75 cents (bleach would cost you more than that)
  4. Free Water

Is water very expensive there, JJ? Here in PA, I pay about $10 per year for my water reserve (if that).
  5. Rick your goals are admirable. A big part of me agrees with you wholeheartedly. Thats why I need to turn over my woodcare to employees because this is not a paod hobby it is a company with people to answer to for profit (well for right now that's me and my family) You know as well as I do that that particular level of perfectionism may be overkill for exterior wood.
  6. Mahogany doors??

If its any consolation they look beautiful.
  7. Geek Squad at Best Buy - Lost all my data!!

You gotta be kidding me. Tear them a new one Carlos.
  8. See Petry? Now you wanna talk goin postal.... mmmmm acryliiiiicc
  9. Jon, I think its urban legend.. Celeste, go there and get pictures.
  10. First wood-tux job

Very nice Mr Painter.. Try the HD-80 next time you get a strip like that. Then again, your stripper may have bee fine but the rain diluted it before it could do its thing. I think the project turned out beautifully.
  11. New for 2007

I'll throw it together. Let me check the rental schedule at the house. We just opened it up to year round rentals but we haven't had many takers.
  12. Did you see them? New games inthe arcade

and here it is, all sunny today.. I better get out there and pretend I work for a living..no arcade for me Message to all you last minute customers: STOP CALLING.. WOOD SEASON IS OVER. Soon I am going to be spraying antifreeze on your decks. back to your regularly scheduled programming
  13. New for 2007

You have to remember Bill, many readers are very new to the business of running a business. This is not 101 stuff. I think making a post about forecasts, objective facilitation and compensation models intimidates many readers. There are several very bright individuals here and I have spoken with many of them. I think some great minds could come together and I would enjoy learning from them as well as sharing what I have been taught. I don't think of myself as an elitist by any stretch but this level of business is something new to this industry (as a whole). In years past you bought a rig and did your thing. I think it is great that you want to share your knowlege on a quid pro quo basis. I have made myself available to you if you'd like to chat sometime via phone. If you'd like to come up to PA or NJ I'd be happy to post a mini round table. I am writing a book on a host of topics as it pertains to contractors. I am a little tighter with information than I have been in the past on these boards. That is why I was hesitant to share information but ina selective enviroment I would be fine with it.
  14. Bleach Dilema

Good info, Dan. You should put that in a separate thread.
  15. New for 2007

Same here, Bill. I'm not sure what your goals are for this type of interaction but I respect your thoughts and ideas and would participate.
  16. I thought about the implications of selling a wood restoration product and what effect it would have on potential work for not just myself but other contractors. The conclusion I have come to is that people that are going to do projects themselves are always going to do so. The people that pay a contractor to perform a service are not suddenly going to start becoming DIY'ers because of a particluar product. Matthew I think you would be very surprised at the costs of the products. There is far more than $2 and $4 worth of product. The RAD Cleaner has seven compounds including sodium percarbonate, other mild alkalines, and surface active agents. The brightening stage is a blend of surfactants and different types of acids precisely blended to be safer for homeowner use while still being effective and mild enough to not overdry the wood. I cannot speak for the other products ingredients nor its profit margins. Trust me, there is not enough margin to make anyone rich when you factor in marketing designs, website cost, search engine optimization, adwords campaigns, jars, lids, silkscreening, boxes, tape, shipping costs, insurance and material cost unless one dumps a ton of additional money into nationwide marketing and spends countless hours cultivating both consumers and potential distributors. I spend on average 3 hours per day just answering mails, analyzing numbers, making sales calls (add in a $500 cell phone bill this month) working on growth. Insurance to be a product distributor costs about $10,000. All is not as it appears on the surface. As far as which came first, the chicken or the egg..those in the know are aware what is what. One seller copied the other identically. (I'm flattered) The RAD product line has generated buzz nationwide and abroad. Certified contractor programs are being developed and a contractor series is being introduced next year. I have no intention of competing with Russell, Bob, Greg or any of the other sellers that utilize bulletin boards to reach their customer base. The RAD product line will be expanded to include many more products that both DIY'ers and contractors will find useful. Its an open market and those that are going to compete will of course do so. As far as Everett's product line being in conflict with PWNA guidelines.. The PWNA members need to deal with that. Matthew, please feel free to give me a call. I don't mind sharing with you the logistics of getting something like this off the ground.
  17. Bleach Dilema

I wouldn't John. I would think if Rowlett thought it would help he would have added it in.
  18. Customers, just gotta vent.

People get the 'nads' to say online what they want to say in person but never would. It is rude, yes but keeping it in perspective.. answer the question to yourself.. do you want them as a customer? My answer would be yes. You don't know what these people have going on in their lives. Maybe he/she just found out their child is ill, had a loved one pass away or got really bad service at a store that morning. I'm not trying to justify this person's perception but these types of input help us to become better retailers. He/she did you a favor by letting you know there is a problem on your website.
  19. Video Recommendation

How did you get your mom to agree to do that video? :seeya:
  20. Where can I get 12% in a 55

Tom, Buckman's might deliver to you. www.buckmansinc.com
  21. Every neighborhood has a Munchkintown. Ours here is Midgetville. When you drive through, they throw rocks at your car.
  22. Rick, did you see the game?.. what a last minute heartbreaker. I think the Carribean is where its at for commercial PW'ing. The DR is booming with construction as are many of the islands. Jason might already have that market cornered though. I love PA. We went to Shawnee on River in the Poconos last Thursday night. Beautiful golf resort there. Driving around the area.. tons of builders and hot decks going up all over the place.
  23. Jon your avatar looks like a 'skinny' except for the pale complexion of course. I hear the Prssure Washing market in Mogadishu is booming.
  24. got chems now the mix?

Pro-Force I can't claim to know anything about. If you are referring to corn cob as a blasting medium, Jon Fife is the guy to talk to. It is used mostly for restoring log homes. It's like sand blasting, only you are using corn cobs. That might be a bad explaination. Jon will elaborate if he reads this post. I've never done it. I don't know of any commercially available products containing sodium metasilicate that you can buy locally. I know some of the more popular housewash formulas contain it. I suppose you could look for a "phosphate free" TSP substitute at Home Depot. These usually contain sodium metasilicate.
  25. I speak French and Italian.. no Spanish.. maybe we better do Australia instead.
