what do you guys like for high pressure hose?
John T replied to Neil's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Hey Neil-- I'm on my iPad as usual but I'll try to remember when on the laptop to post some pics for you. The couplers on the hoses are no problem when there on the hose real. The hose by the coupler take the shape of the real after awhile. There was a couple of times when dragging the hose on the ground the couple came lose.. But all in all the 100' sections work best for us. I usually buy my hose out of season from Pressure Washers | Pressure Washer | Pressure Washer Superstore | Power Washer | Power Washers | EnviroSpec because John sells decent gray non marking hose for less then a dollar a foot. We buy upwards from 500-1000 feet of hose yearly from Envirospec. We beat the heck out of our hoses so we go thru a ton..for a little business.- 39 replies

Hey Neil I think Charlie said it above about the 100' sections. That's what I buy because the wear and tear on our hoses will cause a section to go bad eventually and it's much cheaper to replace 100' sections then going having to junk a 300' Section. We carry alot more hoses then most with aprox 300' per real on my flatbed that has 4 hose reals on it and I carry at least 3 more 100' sections in my trailer. Reason why we carry so much is because I could have guys cleaning as far as 500' away from my truck with at least 2-3 guys doing this when were doing large commercial flatwork such as parking garages, large strip malls etc. The truck never has to move and we can just keep cleaning and cleaning.- 39 replies

Starting out on military retirement
John T replied to DCOutdoors's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Hey David I'll call you later today.. Running around like I always do with my I-pad under my arm -looks like a darn pocket book-- but hey "Don't ask don't tell"...ummm that is don't shoot the geek... Ok that sounds better:wink: Guy who gave you that good advice above doesn't need any assault training.. he's a one man wrecking crew like Arnold was in the "Terminator". Guys a big dude who's nice as humble pie.... If you know how to Market like you say you can you will be getting plenty of calls in no time.. I can see you passing up a tall building at this time but driveways and especially roofs there a pot of gold in them. You will just have to step it up with your training and reading. Go to YouTube and search roof cleaners and watch some video's. Also look for some of there bulletin boards like this one and get on them. Absorb anything and everything and don't be afraid to then get to work. There are plenty of not to expensive Powerwashing classes out there that you can track down to speed up your training where also some of them offer a certification which you can market market market. There are some organizations to consider joining down the road such as the The PWNA - The Power Washers of North America, United Association of Mobile Contract Cleaners etc that you can go to there conventions and network network network with the guys there and take plenty of classes. The PWNA has there annual convention in Orlando this October where I'll be there and John Allison maybe as well. You don't have to join to go to the convention but it saves you a few bucks. The ***** is supposed to be coming out with some info themselves in the near future as to what they have in plan for there members and non members alike. You can also advertise there logo's to give your website a more professional look to it so potential customers can see that you are a very professional company by them also having the ability to look your company up on the orgs website. Everything helps these days..so always stay ahead of your competitors by joining groups that support you and your business. Lastly as far as joining something in the very near future I would look into the Pressure Washing Resource PWRA to be more specific. There good because they have group discounts and benefits that you get immiedetly. Such as over a 100 of downloads at your disposal. They also have very discounted rates if you do mailers for example. The owners there Thad and Chris especially Chris on this one, since he orders a million plus pieces a year to send out he has made it a benefit for members to pay the same price he does for the postcards so right there you can save your membership fee right off the bat. That one I would consider to join ASAP. The very least you can go to there bulletin board and log in and connect with tue guys there. ***** has the same feature with there bulletin board. The PWNA you get a free yearly subscription to the Cleaner Times and you are guaranteed an excellent convention year in and year out.. You have tons of choices along with learning from Guys like.....Guy who like myself has been around the block a couple of.....hundred times.. And that alone to get info for free...is priceless..because some guys and you will pick up who they are..the ladies to.. They really want you to succeed also by doing it right so you to can help raise the bar in this industry by looking professional, acting professional, being very knowledgeable, and doing excellent work because that makes us all look good as well.... Don't you just love this stuff already:wink: you'll be happy you picked the Powerwashing field because no matter what business you join they all have similar success rates which is after 5 yrs only 5% make it.. But don't be deterred. You have us here and after getting thru a career in the Army.... Your resilient already. -

John T replied to DCOutdoors's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Hey David--Where moving fast to find out the next steps. I think your going to be pleasantly surprised. I'll call you some time tomorrow. Your about to retire as an Army Vet and this timing is extrodinary. My daughters boyfriend is graduating HS next month and he's off to Oklahoma July 3rd to begin his 4 yr enlistment for the Army... and in about a half an hour(The rest of my family is there already) I'm heading around the block from me to go to a very dear friend of ours who passed away ultimitaly from the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center Hero FDNY firefighter Jim Ryan, dying of pancreatic cancer, makes plea to Congress to pass 9/11 bill - New York Daily News FDNY Firefighter Jim Ryan of Kings Park, 48, dies His son Robert is leaving for the Army May 29th so the going away party is now. What I can't figure is why these two went Army..but then again I went into the NAVY skinny and came out 4 yrs later with an extra chin and ever expanding stomach so maybe thats not there goal:wink: Talk soon. -

John T replied to DCOutdoors's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Lololol.. I like you already. Hey David do you know what NAVY really stands for?? Never Again Volunteer Yourself:wink: One of the best things I ever did was join the Military and I ended up near the Pentagon right where they cut the orders for the Navy. I had a choice to pretty much go anywhere if I re-enlisted and I was just about to pick a dream base when I was called in for NYPD back home. I just retired with the police department after almost 25 yrs while enjoying my 17 year now in the Powerwashing business. So as they say in the Military "Stand Fast". I contacted John and Shelley Allison who are the creators of this project and also the owners of Pressure Washers | Pressure Washer | Pressure Washer Superstore | Power Washer | Power Washers | EnviroSpec and There profits go right here http://www.envirospec.com/pdfs/Suzie_Web_09.pdf Timing is a thing of beauty.. Let's see if this all falls into the parameters of that project. -
hose reels: hand crank or electric?
John T replied to Neil's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Hey Neal I would look for a hand crank stainless steel hose reel because they won't rust. The electric hose reals which I never owned one so I'm only guessing here but if there always out in the weather I would be leery of them always working right and there pretty expensive. I would look to go to one of the distributors here and see what type of non rusting hose real they sell. Good luck. -

Allison beat me to the punch because that is exactly what I was going to add. Also if you need a sponsor there... I'll do it for you.. Being Ex Navy Myself, John asked me awhile back if I would get involved with this and I said I would. I didn't know of any vets here where I live( have a few close friends that are ex vets) that wanted to get into the Power washing business.. If all rules are in place here and it's a go and you want a sponsor.. I'll do it. I'll also forward this to John to see if we line up correctly for this--- this maybe your lucky day:wink: Go to where Allison Hester is directing you to.. -
pressure washer overheating
John T replied to COACHS's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Yes I had one like that on my trailer where the cap went and and the tank would get sucked in when the engine was running causing the engine to stall. I also have that red tank on my flatbed now that had that adjustable airflow screw when if you leave it tightened same thing happens and the engine stalls... But both are noticeable when when there are problems because you would see the tank getting sucked in.... Doesn't sound like Coaches problem.. Russ Johnson the residency expert should have a good answer to this because he pretty much seen it all. -
pressure washer overheating
John T replied to COACHS's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Check to see of there are no gas lines pinched, if the gas is coming from a tank thats away from the engine make sure the cap is OK and if there is a little vent screw cap make sure it allows air in there so when the engine is sucking up the gas there isn't a vacuum build up in there where the gas can't flow freely into the engine. Also probably not a bad idea to just get a new gas filter which could be the easy fix. -

Reality show coming to my town..Maybe a PW one down the road???
John T posted a question in The Club House
I go to this Bagel place almost every morning after my guys go out to start there day. I am a person of repetition. In comes this Youngster and we start shooting the breeze. He's a rapper who happens to own a few Tanning salons on the island including one in my town. Check him out on the net. You'll see one of the guys on his video was a Soprano's actor who played a captain in the Soprano family who got wacked. He was on for a few years. Anyways me and this "Kid" got into talking for awhile and he tells me all about this reality show will be called Tony's family.(No not Tony **************...darn) Look up there bio and you will see that his family came from one tough background. In case I forget his name is Tony Testa Here's his bio Tony Testa | Brooklyn, NY | Hip Hop / Gangsta Rap / East Coast | Music, Lyrics, Songs, and Videos | ReverbNation He also said he promised his family it won't be like what you see going on in the Jersey shore show(I won't even go there) Because he told me all of this today... ole Johnny boy stopped by his place this afternoon and will be seeing him tomorrow to pay him a visit.. I'm curious as to how this kid got this show because it seems like these Reality shows are a drop in the bucket. I already connected with a few to check this out.. Can this be done in our industry?? Do we really want this anyway? Do we already need to go this way when we have enough of everything we need with these bulletin boards, Facebook, Twitter or whatever else is out there?? Who knows but its all fun. -
We go thru about 4 of these M5 x-jets a year.. Just out of curiosity what do u guys pay for them and from where?

10 GPM at 3000 PSI VS. 8 GPM at 3500 PSI
John T replied to Gunnerm1's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I have similar to them on my flatbed. One setup is rated at 10.5 gpm at 3300 psi and the second one is 8gpm @3600 psi.. If yours is the numbers your saying I would go with the 8@3500 and I'll explain why. If you have to run at times lets say 500' of hose expect to lose 500psi or thereabouts. So the 8gpm @3500 psi will still be around 3000 psi at the far end.. Large water Gpm is great but its good to have some kick on it when you need it. Also 8gpm is not to large where you can run most house water spigots into a water tank and use that PW and not run out of water. The 10.5 GPM could be twice the output of a house spigot.. And that could cause some more issues. Good luck -

Today was about as draining and trying day I had in years. My wife had to drive me to jobs and estimates so I can close out an Internet mess... But if you believe in the Ying and the Yang and Karma... Low and behold an internet bb person that I seen on both *** and TGS has contacted me on something... This is the beauty of looking out for each other. I already thanked that person via email and privately he knows who he is and I want him to know I appreciate him looking out for another contractor in this field. This is the beauty of connecting. The political stuff is what it is... But we all should look out for one another. I know Beth has found this to happen to others in the past and she notified them of it. I also remembering this happening to the ***** treasurer John Orr in the past and we notified him of it... This person who hit me up on the email is a poster on these bb's and I can't thank him enough. I already contacted this company to rectify this ASAP. And will see what happens. It's not every day that I call Maui where I have been and it's beautiful but sometimes you have to look out for each other here, on *** or any other bb that you frequent to help a fellow power washer who this could happen to... And this is called good karma. Take a look and see if you can see what the problem is... And would you do what the guy did who notified me? This is what I love about that's good where we help each other. Take a look. Theft-Bulletin board friends protecting each other
John T replied to John T's question in The Club House
Maui.. Is some beautiful place... Want to hear a real cool convention I seen a few yrs ago? I took my family to the keys.. Duck island to be exact.. At a hotel nearby there was a convention or event u could call it. They had 250 people sitting there talking around a beautiful pool that had dolphins in it. Behind that pool was the Ocean.. You have to picture this.. There sitting around watching the sunset talking and having a good time. There dressed in nice clothes. There were these big barn fires lit around the pool where they were all sitting.. Talking shop and soaking in the moment. Now for the catch- they came to this place for years. I think they were something to so with NASCAR.. They go here for a couple of days like a NOLA event during the day and relax at night.. All business expense write off. Someone in there told me that the same people pretty much have came for years.. And there were some pretty successful people in there. The beauty of it all is this.. Because of there field this is the end result. There businesses paid for it of course and it keeps them pumped every year because of connected with each other and keeping them successful.. That is sweet.. Kind of reminds me of A tropical NOLA.. -

John T replied to John T's question in The Club House
Hey Charlie,, I start slowly. I called his number in Maui and got his voicemail. I asked him to take my site stuff off of his website and if he has any questions to call back.. Later today or tomorrow I'll email him.. And then go from there.. I really appreciated the fact that one of the Internet guys contacted me about this. I never would have found something like this.. Here's one for ya. When I was hot and heavy talking about ***** stuff last year suddenly I get an email that I started an org.. I was like "Really".. Wow how did that happen.... And here it is. Clean County Coalition - We are Against the Sulfur Facility at the State Port in Morehead City NC Do not know anything about it and even if I have rights to fight that one... To many fights Charlie.. To many fights. But some are worth it like my website.. That one is off the charts retarded.. -
