Cleaner Times Magazine wants to know... and needs your help.
John T replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Business Topics & Tips
John- How did u get the fee subscription? Where you a PWNA member at one time?? I still get the Cleaner Times Magazine thru my PWNA membership. I don't how long that will last but if it stops I will subscribe to the Cleaner Times on my own and probably no longer stay on as a PWNA member if this benny's goes by the wayside. -
Ken, As always another good post. I never infracted anyone and like alot of things in life the only way to know what works and what doesn't is to sometimes just go for it and see what happens. Thats what was tried here IMHO and even though it was a noble Idea the reality of it was that it didn't work as well as it was intended to do. I like PT bb alot but I'm still more confortable with a moderator system just to keep the engine running a little more smoothly. Its just an opinion from what I have seen over the years. What I always liked best about TGS is the ability of the Admin to keep this bb current and fresh. Its a Powerwashing information Highway that is well taken care of and that is a reflection of the leaders and the members that are here. Along the way there are changes that take place and in some cases they might not have been the best of changes but at least they are tried and true. Thru the trial and tribulations they are tweaked and tweaked again such as this. The beauty of an ever evolving bulletin board such as TGS. There is no definitive answer but the effort that goes into the search for the answer is always here.

I had a request thru the bulletin boards from a heck of a nice guy to take out his friend who lives not far from me to show him how I Clean etc. so he can learn so he can go out and make some money. I've done this in the past with guys that are not nowhere near me but this is a little to close for comfort. Competition is pretty fierce around here with new companies springing up all the time. What I did offer to do was that the guy could call me to ask general questions but I do not give out prices or show guys near me my operation because I know will be competing against each other. I am very confident in my abilities but to show a guy who may be competing against me for jobs in my area the ropes is a little to close for comfort. What would you do??

The Cleaner Network Morgan is asking to keep his daughter in your prayers. Morgan I think is out of the business now but some of us remember his daughters Hospital visits and what they had to go thru to get better. If anyone wants to drop his post a line I put the above link in to get you right there.

Here's one Building Trades Association The PWNA still has there bulletin board for members Power Washers of North America - THE industry association for the power washing, pressure washing and pressure cleaning industry. Find Power washing companies, power washing contractors, pressure washing compnaies and power washing chemcial and equip I haven't really search that much but there has to be some organization that has a large bulletin board attached to it that is active. Any others know of an Org./Assoc. that is has a bulletin board and seems like there successful at...both??

"R U talking to me..You must be talking to me cause I'm the only one here"--Oh wait thats Robert DiNero from Taxi Driver. Joe Pesci is great. He vacations by our house at the Jersey shore. If I ever see him there(Some of our family members have) I'll try to get a picture of the little dynamo and post it on this bb. He is supposedly super friendly and absolutely nothing like the characters he portrays. I love the scene with him sticking that Pen in the guys neck in the movie "Casino".... I use that scene alot except I threatened to stick the pen in people's eyes..Only Jokingly of course...well sometimes:)

Matt once again I agree completely with that. I talked to Bryan Penny tonight about a few things and one of them was this post how I thought you nailed it... He had nothing but nice things to say about you and that your one smart guy.. Its evident just from reading these post.
-
My opinion exactly except to add a few more things to it such as letting it morph into an Org. and also look to do a yearly Convention thats done with style and class to get more people to go and to bring the bb up to another level.... Good answer Matt

Is it a bad idea to have a section here that has links to other Powerwashing bulleting boards as long as they do the same?? This way the connected bulletin boards can form a bond and also when newbies go searching out for a Powerwashing bulletin board they can see the section with the links and go to the other bb's also to post or just read/search. They can also decide which bb best fits to there liking. Maybe this is a wasted idea since all they really have to do is a google search to find the bulleting boards..Just thinking aloud.

I've been a member of this org. ***** - Contractors On The Move for about 5 months. I use these org's to help in the marketing of my Business plus I like to be a member of these groups if its not to expensive. Who else belongs to this org. or is thinking of joining??

Well said. The time factor alone to do this might be mind boggling. There are so many companies to please and we all know you just can not please all of them all of the time. Making money will be a huge factor and if that can be done along with keeping a decent reputation along the way then I say YES. The questions that need to be answered is can the site generate $$$$ and can they find the people that are willing to put in the time to make the site work. Money there can be a great motivator or maybe just incentives alone can help. A business Plan would need to be explored thoroughly by a few to see if its even worth the potential effort that this would take.

Cya all in a week. After just working around 15 straight days Powerwashing along with my other job I am finally dragging my butt away from it all with my family to our Rented house on the Jersey shore for one week of "Fun in the Sun" I need this much needed vacation. Just to give you guys an idea on how much I've been working on my "Other job" besides powerwashing because where so short handed--I maxed out on paying Social Security for the year in June. I'm not bragging...I feel more like I'm dying and believe me its not worth it to work like this...As soon as I get to the Jersey shore I;m going to just fall on the sand...and just lay there....with a Corona..ahhhhhhhh

Clean County is going into Landscaping next spring. I'm gearing up for that now. I just drove back this truck I bought on Ebay for $7750. It matches my company colors of REDBut what amazed me the most was that it got if you can believe it 30 mpg freeway. I filled up the tank in Jersey since Diesel there was 50cents cheaper a gallon then in NY and I drove 92 miles then filled it up again by my house and it took only 3.1 gallons to top it off...AMAZING!!! eBay Motors: 1986 Isuzu Dump Body Truck NR (item 110149150158 end time Jul-20-07 19:38:03 PDT)

Raid bug spray on vinyl siding
John T replied to NewYorkBoraPL's question in Residential Pressure Washing
the Tagaway may work..but if it doesnt Goof off could be tried. To be honest its probably not even worth going back to this job over and over unless your just determined to solve that problem. Just the gas alone these days is a killer to go back and forth to a job unless your getting paid well to do it. If your not concerned about the above then the last two things I would try is the tagaway or Goof off. -
I'm debating on adding landscaping (Cutting grass, plantings etc) to My Powerwashing business. Since I;m getting closer to retirement I want to make sure my 3 guys are garranteed to stay busy all thru-out the season next year. My goal is to not have them working just 6 days a week in the Months of April-June I want them to stay busy 8-9 month a year like that. I can always hire more guys if I need to. Anyone else do landscaping along with there powerwashing and would you recommend this route? Thanks

"Poop B Gone" Home- Poop B Gone - Pet Waste Removal Service Serving Nassau & Suffolk Counties Long Island, NY. We're number one in cleaning number two. is a big business over here. The company has a bunch of trucks. Talk about a nasty business. Things we do for the almighty buck...
-
Rod, I can't argue that point. Specializing is a great way to go in business. What I'm looking for is to add more guys and to remove myself more and more from the physical end and to do this I need continous work and alot of it. My eventual goal is to have a few services that my business offers besides just powerwashing. Office cleaning and carpet cleaning could be even more add ons down the road. As for now I just purchased my first dump truck (Yesterday) and soon I will be getting a couple of Wright Stander mowers with the other items needed to maintain acres of lawns and gardens. When I pick up this truck this week I'll post pictures of it. Its a beaut and its my favorite color--RED

Carbon Monoxide nearly kills parking garage cleaner
John T replied to One Tough Pressure's topic in Chemicals & Safety
Yea right they only wanted him to clean the garage floor with a garden hose. Maybe they should have had the Carbon sensor equipment working where it kicks in to vent out carbon monoxide build up. Thats the real problem there and there trying to blame it on the guy who's in the hospital who was just doing his job. Thank God he didn't die because then he would have been blamed for sure since he wouldn't be able to defend himself. That garage needs to put blame where it belongs which is the guy who checks these carbon detector equipment to work when there are an over abundant of cars running there engines in there to find a parking space. -
History Lesson Have a history teacher explain this----- if they can. Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960. Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both wives lost their children while living in the White House. Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. Both Presidents were shot in the head. Now it gets really weird. Lincoln 's secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln . Both were assassinated by Southerners. Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln , was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908. John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln , was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939. Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names are composed of fifteen letters. Now hang on to your seat. Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.' Kennedy was shot in a car called ' Lincoln ' made by 'Ford.' Lincoln was shot in a theater and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse. Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theater. Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials. And here's the kicker... A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe , Maryland A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

Thats probably how it really goes. The guy who sent me this is very religious and he goes on religious retreats every year. He might have changed the end. It is interesting all the coincidences.

Yard maintenance is to get my foot in the door. I know cutting grass has a low profit margin but it also keeps my guys and any other guys that I will hire constantly busy and that is the goal in keeping the good quaility guys. From Cutting grass my business plan would also include doing plantings with maybe a little design in them to. If I became successful at this I would hire a person with landscape design as there background. As of right now I'm just dreaming...along with tracking trucks and Lawnmowers for sale on the net and my local papers. Its not out of my spectrum to buy an established landscaping business but that is my last choice because I rather build up my own thru mass mailings.
-
Ken, That is all true what your saying. I've heard that from some friends here also. The real goal would be to get into the plantings,Top soil etc with some of the accounts. I did hear that people will can you just to get another to cut there grass for a couple of bucks cheaper. The grass cutting end is the ultimate lowballer conflict. As of right now we added doing houses a solid stain which I stopped doing years ago when I was really a one man operation. I have a house to look at tomorrow that needs to be primed and two coats of a solid stain. And of course I am looking to crack the parking garage cleaning in Manhattan by hopefully attending there convention in the fall. On top of all this the landscaping is something I need to think alot more about. I want all of my business to be linked and in the service field. Just not sure exactly what businesses to start and link since there are so many out there like Carpet Cleaning, Office Cleaning, Window cleaning etc etc etc
-
True....But I have a few opportunities staring me right in the face. There are about 8 estates that I can most likely land if I was to get into this business. Just to give you a quick number one of these estates pay $175/week to get his lawn cut, whacked and blown(Sounds like a strange *** act) Thats for 2+ acres. Another estate is for 7+ acres. Just on these few alone could be at least a guaranteed $1000+ a day every week. IF I do this I;m going to spend around $15,000 to get some good mowers like a "Wright Stander" and sell off one of my trucks to get a dump truck. Have to spend $$$$ to make it. Still am not sure that I want to have my guys locked into cutting grass every week on top of powerwashing.
-
I use to get my hoses crimped but I had a few of the new ends blow off afterwords. I guess if you have a large business maybe its worth crimping the hoses but for my business I'd rather just buy a new section of 100' hose and throw out the damaged hose.

Once Hillary leaves Myrtle Beach there will be alot more cleaning to do to clean up her mess which will be tough to do because she is a nasty stain. Here's the typical Reaction when Billary leaves town:lgjump:except for Jeff who likes Hillary which is really Bill Clinton in drag. Jeff's Reaction when Billary leaves his area:lgtear:
