I'll take the bleach proof one:) Yes I would buy one or maybe even two so my fulltime guy doesn't cry the blues because he didn't get one...The only problem with him is that he would wear this shirt at a jobsite and ruin it the first day......

For bleach heads only
John T replied to RPetry's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Now thats funny..who ever was to try this you'd better be wearing a diaper.. -
Can these be sprayed by you or do they have to be done professionally?? The problem I'm having about making a decision on doing this is that I have some really heavy items that are going to go in this trailer and to get these in they will have to be dragged accross the trailer floor. If the floor was sprayed first I would think dragging a 1000lb powerwasher over it my damage the coating..Unless I have the floor done after these heavy items are put in place..but is that not the right way to do it??????????

I'm running into issues with my Box truck that I didn't put much thought into..Since at some jobs I have 3 people working there and if all goes well I plan on having this many if not more on alot of jobs in the future. So the isses I'm having with my box truck is that it can't hold anymore then two people unless I have a few sit in the box and that is a big safety issue that I don't want to cross. Because of this I may take everything out of this truck and sell the truck on Ebay. So I may revert back to a trailer set-up being pulled by my Pickup truck that can seat up to 6 people. Or I may use my bucket truck to tow a trailer because I can put two seats in the back of that truck to sit 4 people total with two inside the truck. Because I have alot of equipment that we use on a continuous bases and I use water tanks to go along with my equipment, I'm looking to purchase a large Enclosed Trailer that is 7'x18' Questions: 1- What type trailer(Open/enclosed) do you have and is it the right size for you. 2-What would be the ideal size trailer to have?? Opinions appreciated.........

Wow that is some House!! In Long Island NY that house would be over a Million dollars easy and cost about $20,000-$30,000 a year in taxes. How much land is that House on??

I agree with this gas thing but the problem is when Gas goes up everything has a way of going up..except peoples salaries. Case in point when Gas goes up so does the gas that goes into your house to heat it. To process alot of items in your house there was gas engines used to get that done so now the consumer pays more...last but not least we have to charge the customers a little more to offset our cost..so in reality that extra $10 it cost them to fill there car is really costing them alot more in the big picture of things.. But the complaining about it is getting old cause we all feel the pinch..

What kind of "Home Improvements" do you do on your own house?
John T replied to Celeste's question in The Club House
Nothing..my house is about to fall down:) My house has been neglected but not for long.......... -
Between Down Streaming and X-Jetting..for me X-Jetting and Shurflo spraying crush Downstreaming..but then again I never do Fleets,Hoods and some other cleanings where Downstreaming or even Upstreaming might be the way to go.

Our next Convention is mid March 2007 In Mesa Arizona. I can't say enough about these Conventions. To me there like a vacation where we enjoy good company with people in the industry.

Iv'e cleaned houses with Hot and cold. The chemicals are the key and today I never use Hot water on a house because I don't see the need..unless its cold out.....

Would you attend a Grime Scene Round Table event?
John T replied to Beth n Rod's question in The Club House
I think one of the dates considered was the weekend of October 28th. If there isn't already somewhere on this bb maybe a poll should be taken on whats the best date that would work for most. -
Beth is going to kill me for flubbering my mouth off..but..I GOT A BIG MOUTH!!!!!!!! Just a thought. Who would be interested in doing a roundtable somewhere in Maryland maybe in the early fall when the leaves look there finest. If I was running this roundtable it would be only open to anyone who has ever participated on the TGS bb..which means probably a thousand plus members since it is just about the best Powerwashing bb on the net. If lets say 50 people are interested in going to this roundtable maybe a place could be found that could hold this many and if the price was lets say $20/per person then a $30 charge should be taken so $10 goes to Beth/Rod for all there efforts in keeping this bb at the very top of the game. This could be an annual Roundtable and probably the first of its kind where its an extension and directly related to a bb. There could be many goals for having a roundtable like this but the first one that comes to my mind is for the TGS members to meet each other and to forge ahead relationships in this industry that could last many years. No this is not a push for anytype of ORGANIZATION. This is more like a club that we all belong to which is TGS(The grimes scene). This club is fueled by its internet base and following. Its a club that is built from its internet founding and belief system which is the bb. This is what seperates this club from all else. This is once again all just thoughts spewing out of my head. These thoughts get me in hot water at times but anyone who knows me knows this..I have no agenda. My one and only goal is for us all to be connected in this industry so we as a group can elevate the standards....This is why I do believe in Organizations and groups...its tough to swim these waters alone. So who else would be interested and what are some other idea's that can be shared here???????????????

Powerwashing tall buildings Manhattan style
John T replied to John T's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Jeff- Thanks for the heads up on using "there" lift. My main guy who works for me told me the same things since he has used tall lifts in the past. Since the whole building is going to be repainted I'm leaning on just doing a Hot water wash because if I add chemicals I could run into a problem with reclaiming. Also alot of the grime you see on this building cleans up pretty easily when you are using 180+ degree water. They Key here is that the building is going to be repainted...anybody want to come down and paint it for $500,000:) It crossed my mind to track down a few painters and try to take on this whole job but since I;m sure I will run into some headaches of just cleaning it if I get it the last thing I need is to deal with Painters headaches....and I hate painting. -
Powerwashing tall buildings Manhattan style
John T replied to John T's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Thanks for the support. Here's some more pictures of this bldg. In the background you can see the Empire state bldg. This is a clean and pre-prep for the building to be painted... Still trying to figure on how to price this monster. Anyone want to take a guess on how much they would price this out at. The building owner will supply the lift. This building is in the heart of Manhattan where pedestrian traffic is very high. This is definetely a late night early morning job. This building needs to be cleaned and pre-prepped for a paint job. The painters will scrape most of the loosed paint off. Here's my guess so far..2-3 weeks of work for a crew of 4 guys. All done at night with lights and crowed control including. Of course I see a problem already with all the pigeons there must be pigeons nest up there. Anyway my price is going to be at the very least $50,000 for this cleaning. -
Re- Thinking Woodcare
John T replied to James's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Doing Wood is so profitable but the weather plays such a factor in it that at times like Jim is conveying above I feel like just leaving wood behind. Around a month ago or so I had around 6 decks that where stripped and they had to sit around 2 weeks before we could even attempt to stain them. All the customers understood that we couldn't get them stained untill this rain front cleared out. I hated everyday that passed that these decks stayed exposed like the way they where. Plus flipping around jobs was a pain and of course on some days that we powerwashed the expected rains never came and some of those decks could have been done. I will forever look for more Powerwashing jobs to do over wood staining jobs..but..still can't walk from where the money is even if its from....wood. -
Way to go Jim. If I didn't have such a sweet deal with my "other" job I would have done the same thing..years ago. Good Luck

Its just another sales pitch to try and hook/line and sinker to real a customer in. Us wood guys know that Hot water is not needed when doing doing wood jobs. I deal with this here sometimes also when someone tells me that they have an estimate that states that hot water will be used to maximize the cleaning process...which I do that on my estimates when it comes to concrete cleaning... I tell the potential customer that Heat is not needed on wood and that it can actually hurt the wood if the water is to hot. If you know what your talking about and you have certifications to prove your point then that will help you get the job. So like I stated above when a company advertises that they use hot water on all jobs its just another sales ploy to get customers...
-
When I book "Powerwashing" jobs I always say will be there rain or shine. I had many customers at that point ask me if how do you powerwash in the rain or can you powerwash in the rain?? I'm always amused by this because Powerwashing consist of using a ton of water. Of course some heavy duty stripping jobs can not be done to well when its raining to hard because the water can thin out the stripper to much. Either way the beauty of Powerwashing is that you can still go out and make money in the rain where alot of other businesses such as Landscaping,Driveway sealcoating and many many other type contractor businesses you can lose a days pay when you can't go out... So bring on the rain or sun cause I'm still going to make money...Snow well thats another story.........

Crap Ken beat me out by around $2k for May:) April was actually better then May for me which is rare...June may be even better then both..unless the body breaks down.......................

They could have used a different word or phrase then what was used but its done. Sometimes with all the PC you just don't want to say anything because no matter what there will be someone pissed off at you for the way you said it. It wasn't to many years ago when a guy like the Comedian George Carlin got locked up for doing his skit about the 7 words you are not allowed to say in public..today it metamorphosized into the phrase "Political Correctness". Yes I do believe we should be more sensative to others that are different then us but who says that we have to be politically corrected anyway.........

Wet weather in New England
John T replied to James's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I love Powerwashing..but not to keen on woodcare because the weather is such an unpredictable and important factor. I have 4 decks stripped and need to be stained and the rain is expected to be hear another 10 days!! -
Washing Trex (black spots)
John T replied to Jarrod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Trex lost a class action lawsuit and there current rates to clean up there mess is $1.50sq.' I've done 10+ decks for them in the past year and all of it was easy money but the customers on average where extremely pissed at Trex so this is something that you have to put up with. You are paid for these jobs by Trex. They send you the work order and the homeowner the materials for you to use when you get there. When I clean Trex on my own I never get nowhere near that price. A 600 sq' Trex deck I'm lucky if I can get $200 to clean it................ As for the sealer its some milky stuff that Trex supplies then looks white but dries clear. I have no idea what it is or do I care. I'm just following Trex procedure.
